Zoness Facility As Jagan made his way towards Fox (I think that's what's happening), Fox's scan came back. Negative on devices, the room appeared to simply be an empty, for lack of a better term...nursery. Fox's scan showed no holographic projectors in the room. And a slight sobbing, more distant, was now heard down the hall behind him. Jagan would have heard the sobbing. Then, another image appeared behind Fox, in the hallway-while Jagan was approaching. It was of a blue-haired girl, her eyes discolored, but she appeared blank and emotionless. The image of Rei Ayanami (though Fox may not have recognized her) stood there. "You should leave." the figure said, simply, and stared at him blankly, yet intently... [...] Drip. Drip. Drip. It was quiet, save for a leak in a pipe down the dimly-lit, shadowy hall. As Rei and Mari continued down it, the shadows on the wall seemed to leap and dance as the lights flickered, or went out, or emergency lighting flickered on or went out...for the slightest moment, they may have seen what appeared to be shadowy hands along the floor, reaching for them... "...why...did...you...run...Mari...?" A faint blue light seemed to appear down the hallway, slightly obscured by some rubble, but it appeared as if a figure was sitting behind it. The door behind them suddenly sprung to life, and began to slowly close... "...please...don't...leave...me...alone...again...Mari..." the voice said-and Mari may have recognized it, and Rei too-as Asuka's. [...] Sonic was met with resistance as he tried to move, even as his spiky armor slashed against naught but thin air! Eventually, though, his speed and the armor's power won out, and he heard (or saw) a small explosion from inside the pool of water behind him, as the force on him vanished and he shot forward! [...] Yui was quiet for a moment, before another figure, pale blue and translucent, appeared before Gendo and his party. It appeared to be a cute Japanese-descended girl who looked vaguely like Yui herself. "Greetings!" the figure said. "Let's play-" she vanished, as a series of lights cut out along a certain pathway, instead some red emergency lights turned on down one specific path-that path, due to the lack of lighting apart from the few faint emergency lights, was very dark, though still navigable. "...I know it's difficult, but this is the best way to highlight the path you need to take to reach me...follow the emergency lights and ONLY the emergency lights." She paused. "And another thing. That memory you just saw...I have reason to believe it...does not like you. In particular." Sure enough, down the emergency-lighted pathway, a girl's giggling could be heard. "Now..." Yui's voice sounded. "Attention United Terran Republic warship, I am aware you have detected me and are no doubt preparing to storm or destroy this complex. Be advised, I have in my possession here all manner of mutagenics and chemicals that, if released, would undo all the repairs that this planet's ecosystem has undergone, even inflict more damage. If you care nothing for this Mobian colony planet and the population living or vacationing on it, by all means blast me into oblivion. But doing so would release my arsenal, which I will ALSO release, unless...unless your ship's commanding officer comes with no more than two accompanists to...treat with me." There was a pause. "My...husband...I have attempted to stall for time. Making a demand that while taxing, is generous enough to make them consider it. And should prevent them from destroying this facility, not if their CO is here. But...hurry..." For a moment, the giggling became laughter...then was silent. T.R.S. Crusader "She's bluffing." Didymus said, surrounded by holograms of EarthCom's generals and admirals in his war room. "Perhaps, but if we call her bluff, and she's got a flush..." one general said. "And even if she is only bluffing and we call, she's already dragged the Mobians into this. Clever girl. She's made it so that even if we blow her harmlessly away, it'll be a political fiasco, the idea that we don't care about the Mobians and are just imperial conquers...to say nothing of the disaster this could be if she's being honest." General Solomon added. "Do we WANT to negotiate with a NERV rogue who, by nature of her claims, is now indisputably a terrorist?" Didymus asked. "No..." General Clarke said. "...but on this short notice...we may have to. Colonel...I KNOW this is probably a trap...but..." Didymus nodded, though he clearly appeared not to like this decision. "...understood." He placed a call on his PDA. "Asuka, get suited up in that new agility-focused suit we've got. I'm taking the strength/endurance one. We're going in." He placed another call. "Omega...guess what? You may get to smash something today after all. Meet Asuka and myself in the main portside hangar." He was off to suit up, then would be off to the main hangar... Zoness Facility The agent in the suit approached at a very measured the site of the scream at a very measured, steady pace. Being out of breath in an area that was proving to be far more inhabited than he at first expected was a potential death sentence. He knew better than to be running about and losing breath and reason. If this place was not empty and mostly uninhabited, then he definitely needed to exercise great caution. Strange though. It was supposed to have been mostly abandoned except for that strange signal from the woman... When Nova's ship picked up the signal and deciphered its location, the madman turned absolutely gleeful at the potential to test out the young man's new 'improvements'. So off he went to a new location to do some scouting and collect as much information as he could. And apparently, that information was well-received. Jagan knew that by now, Nova would be transcribing the various details of research that he had found in the labs and notes on his way here, and perhaps that would be enough for Nova to suss out the purpose of this facility... And gain whatever it is that he wanted from here. It was supposed to be a routine scouting, document gathering and possibly a hostage retrieval from what was apparently an abandoned facility. It definitely wasn't abandoned. Stopping by another lab on the way, the young agent quickly set another pair of drones, doorway field and that little ceiling gadget, not even bothering to actually enter the lab room this time. The drones could handle themselves, and he wasn't seeing any obvious threats quite yet, except for the flickering lights and distant giggling. No, his destination was the scream he heard earlier, and he wanted to know what the hell that was all about. Again, he checked the background noise for psychic phenomena by tuning into his Tracer Matrix again, triggering his particular foresight capability and letting that power accelerate his cognitive functions. And again, he got nothing. Not even a twinge of psychic 'static'. Whatever it was, it most likely wasn't paranormal. Possibly a meta power of some sort, but nothing that fed back through psionic means. Pressing his back against a corner, Jagan paused to listen at a distant voice, a male voice at that. Just as he carefully glanced beyond the corner pistol in hand... And then he froze. "... Rei..." The word slipped past his lips before he even realized he whispered it. This was impossible. She was not supposed to be HERE. The woman which stuck to his memories and dreams, the unmistakable blue-white hair, there was no possible way that it could be anyone else. And there was no possible way it could be her either. Almost instinctively, Jagan reached out towards that frayed part of his mind, the part that STILL HURT whenever he thought about it, that dull pain of an unhealed wound that could never be reached to heal. Like frayed wires torn from their housing, or a snapped steel wire, it still hung loose and reminded of itself now and then with a twinge of psychic feedback. Almost tentatively, Jagan reached for that part of his power... And received nothing but pain in return, enough to make him wince and his vision to redden for a moment. No. There wasn't anything there. Of course. That connection was torn open when their existence grew apart both spatially and temporally. Nothing could be done about it. And as his vision cleared and he focused, Jagan's eyes narrowed. She was transparent. To both him and his power, it was as if she was not there. ... Indeed, it was impossible for Ayanami Rei to be here. And he really should have known better than have any sort of thought otherwise. Logic dictated she was currently in a location unknown, most likely in a time unknown as well, still traveling using whatever means of temporal traversing she had access to. Finally, as his mind settled, he suddenly snapped into full alertness. Rei... No. That image wasn't the only thing here. There was also that male voice, a male voice straight across the hall from him, on the other side of that image that still looked so tantalizingly familiar. And that meant that he might have just blown his cover and location. Snapping back behind the corner as fast as he could, Jagan waited for any sound of recognition of his presence... -Abandoned Space Station- “Right, right...” Hammah sighed, shaking his head and hurrying off now, typing something on his wrist. Maybe... But could he trust Kimi here? Or Sama? He was pretty sure Jimi would back him up, but... He stopped in front of a door now, a red light indicating it was close. Hammah plugged into it from his wrist computer, and soon over rid the lock, the door opening up. Lights flickered on in the room, filled with various equipment, with a nasty looking chair in the middle, a person sitting in it, an older man, glassy eyed and near death, with some strange contraption over his head. “It's not a trap if you know it's a trap... sometimes,” Jimi said, as they hurried down the passageway. Several doors opened, and several new robots came rolling out, pointing their arms at Sama and Jimi! “Kill, kill!” the Robobrains declared, firing at them! -T.R.S. Crusader- Omega was at the main hangar, ready to go when Didymus and Asuka would arrive. “I am ready for duty, and thankfully, I am waterproof,” Omega stated, flexing his hands and ready to fight. -Zoness Facility- Fox spun around, pulling out his laser gun and pointing it at the figure, pausing when he saw it. “...Who are you?” he asked, lowering the gun, but did not put it away as he eyed the figure of Rei, not knowing who he was, “Are you causing that signal?” “Alright... enough messing around,” Sonic said, finding a piece of dry land and standing on it. He focused, taking a deep breath. He took a runner's stance, then shot forward suddenly, barreling through the halls at high speeds, running along the walls, ceilings, whatever he could as he used his speed to start searching faster! |

[Haven] “That's hardly my problem. I need a ship and now he owes me one. So it sounds like its his problem.” Melanie could see Rica's expression sour and had an odd feeling the man was contemplating just killing this woman right now. The girl gave her mother's beau a harsh look, as a warning. "Why did you even owe him a ship in the first place?" she asked about Hondo. "How do you get into more trouble than us kids?" "He's Rica, it's his job" Jason answered, keeping the girl next to him. [Edda's Ship] “I guess this is it... the start of something new...” "You sound pretty confident about it" Sarai said quietly, a small smile on her face. Edited by Crystal Rose, Aug 2 2016, 05:10 PM.

-Haven- Lily frowned, looking towards the others. “I have a ship,” Lily said after a moment. -Edda's Ship- Edda grinned, slipping into his seat. Once everyone was in, the ship took off, exiting the atmosphere with a rocky shake, but the artificial gravity kicked in as well. “Okay, our first lead takes us to the frontier, a planet in a system without an official name yet. It's referred to as 'Limbo' though,” Edda said, getting up now, “It's not well mapped, but there's rumors of shipping and a facility owned by one of Veidt's shell companies, so we're gonna check there first.” |

[Zoness Facility] Rei and Mari stopped, with the latter going wide-eyed at the sound coming from them. The blue light was an odd thing to see, but Asuka's voice caused Mari to suddenly go cold. “Asuka? No, but...” Mari started forward, but Rei calmly grabbed her wrist. “Wait. That is not Asuka. We scanned the planet before we arrived, the Republic is not here yet. It is not possible for Asuka to be here.” Rei pointed out the calm logic, but Mari looked anything but calm. […] Gendo paused, staring at this... thing. It reminded him of Yui, but if any emotion was working behind his visor, Gendo did not show it. After the things he had done and ordered to be done, Gendo was not the type to become emotional... … and yet... As he walked down, following the emergency lights, his steps were almost quivering. [Abandoned Space Station] “What the hell is that?” Kimi asked, as Hammah caused the lock to open. Behind the door was... something. The man in the chair looked unwell, and Kimi wasn't even sure if he was alive. […] “Please tell me those aren't actual brains,” Sama groaned as he jumped to the side, trying to evade one of the lasers. He grabbed a laser pistol of his own from his belt and fired at the nearest Robobrain, trying to aim for the dome on its 'head' where the brain sat. [Haven] “I had to earn a living somehow all those years I was hiding from NERV. Can't exactly go and apply to be a banker or something.” Rica shrugged. “I was a smuggler for a while. I helped get illegal things between planets, evade UTR restrictions. Don't forget all the money I made breaking the law has gotten us out of a few jams.” “I didn't ask for your life story, pops.” Haruka rolled her eyes. She was about to say something else when Lily spoke. Haruka's eyebrow rose. “Oh? And you're willing to part with it to wipe away this guy's debt? That'd be surprisingly noble... in my experience noble is usually just someone with their own agenda.” [Edda's Ship] “Limbo,” Connor groaned. “How do people come up with these names? I suppose if you're doing some kind of illegal business you want to sound scary.” |

-Abandoned Space Station- Hammah moved forward carefully towards the man. He got near him and checked his pulse, pulling out a light and flashing it over his eyes. “He's alive, but he's not responsive,” Hammah said, frowning, “Like he's in a coma or something...” “You... are not... welcome... here...” a voice said suddenly, causing Hammah to jump, staring around. The entire room seemed to buzz slightly, vibrations running through it as the voice returned in a thundering boom, coming from speakers hidden around the room. “Leave... this... place!” “They look like they might be...” Jimi frowned, firing at the robots as well. Sama's shot would hit, shattering the dome and causing the robot to stop it's attack, arms hanging uselessly at the side. “Someone was doing something very illegal here,” Jimi growled, his armor shifting and producing a small launching device, which fired a grenade into the Robobrains, disabling a couple more. Soon the two would manage to take out the robots, Jimi stepping forward when something suddenly flashed into existence in front of them. It was a small green hologram of a man in powered armor, about nine inches high, glowing in front of them. “Hello there. I was wondering when others would receive the distress beacon I set up,” the hologram said, sounding calm and collected. -Haven- Lily paused, looking towards Haruka, then glanced towards Melanie as well. ...Maybe she needed a little spontaneity. “I might have an ulterior motive... I don't think staying around here is doing me much good. So if you want the ship, I want to come with you,” Lily stated. Maybe getting away from Melanie and her brother would do her a little good... let her clear her mind. ...Probably not with Haruka around, but Lily doesn't know that yet. -Edda's Ship- “Yah... And oh! I can't believe I almost forgot, my ship,” Edda said, waving around, “I call her The Valkyrie.” “He wanted to name it after Chloe here but I shot it down,” Paul signed, though I'm not sure Connor or Sarai know sign language, or Chloe. “What do you mean, I did name it after her,” Edda grinned. |

Zoness Facility The figure of Rei eyed Fox. "We are this facility." it said. "We know its secrets. We ARE its secrets. All that it has done, all that it is...and all it will ever be. That is us. I did not sent out the signal...the woman who this facility remembers did. The signal was not intended for you." The figure then turned in Jagan's direction. "Or you. Leave immediately." --- As Sonic ran, he would have heard voices. "Help us, Sonic...help us...why didn't you help us...you CAN'T help us...!" He would have seen bluish-white flashes, figures, in rooms here and there alongside the hallways he barreled through... --- The submersible vehicle landed in a hangar, and clad in the strength and endurance-focused armored suit, Didymus stepped forward, heavy gun ready. "Looks quiet..." he said over their com-link. "Alright, you two..." he regarded Omega and Asuka in turn. "...standard rules of engagement-move foward slowly, cautiously, watch each other, stay out of each other's fields of fire...and make sure we look behind us every so often. This engagement has "obvious trap" written all over it, but we still don't know Ikari's endgame." "Right." Misato, monitoring the situation from orbit aboard the Crusader, said. "Intelligence believes that BOTH...adult Ikaris...are in the facility. Keep your eyes open. Policy for Gendo Ikari AND his wife is to detain on sight." "Can we terminate if they resist?" Didymus asked. "Gendo, yes, but only if the only alternative is that he will definitely escape. Yui, no." came the response. "Thank you, intel." Didymus said. He looked to Asuka and Omega. "My friends..." he paused. "...thank you. Now, we don't know what waits for us. Let's just...step forward. Let me do the talking, and...stay frosty. I'm sure this is dangerous. Also...in our packs should be enough explosives to erase this facility. We will plant them at key points as we move." He looked ahead, into the dreary, dimly-lit hallway leading out of the hangar. "Let's move." --- As Gendo walked, he would have felt a light, airy touch, almost as if a child was hugging him very very loosely. "Let's play..." he would have heard, very very faintly. "Anyone else hear that...?" one of his guards, clearly very nervous at this point, asked. The emergency lights would have lead them into a small room, clearly a lab. Some papers were scattered around, and the broken lab equipment looked to be largely medical in nature. There were various research notes scattered about the dirty tables, and once again Shinji's voice came to them. "Imustn'trunawayImustn'trunawayImustn'trunaway Imustn'trunawayImustn'trunawayImustn'trunaway IMUSTN'TRUNAWAYWHYCAN'TIRUNAWAY?!" The door into the lab slammed shut behind them. "FATHER WHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!" At this point, Gendo would have felt a weight, as if a child was hanging off of him...and sobbing. Both Shiji's, and a woman's. The female sobbing quickly subsided. A folder flew off the table, right at Gendo's face! Inside it, pages documenting his experiments on Shiji were written. And, in red on the page, was scrawled, "I A M N O T A L O N E". --- The voice of Asuka continued. "You...left me alone...and now you...STILL...WILL?!" Suddenly, behind them, the image of Rei appeared. As did another. And another. "The prodigal daughter returns." one said. "What difference does it make? She is replaceable." said another. "But she refuses her place. And her nature. And in so doing, she looses what tiny fragment of identity she possesses." a third. "She never possessed one in the first place. She is nothing more or less than a replacement." a fourth. They all looked at Rei, seemingly ignoring Mari. "You." They stepped closer. "Can." They took another step in. "Not." They took STILL another step closer. "Escape." They were standing next to them now, grinning madly-something most unusual on Rei's face. "Wel" said one. "Come" said another. "home..." said a third, before they all vanished... Asuka's sobbing could be heard still. "WONDERGIRL over me...? She was always treated better...less painful treatments...and now MORE FRIENDS?! Including...mine?!" This time, a wail of agony could be heard... (I edited this only to place a couple of spaces in that one sentence so the page wouldn't stretch. - GS) Edited by GoldenSama, Aug 9 2016, 05:30 PM.

[Zoness Facility] The young agent was tensely observing from his covered position, barely leaning out to get line of sight on what was going on down the corridor. That image still... Unnerved him somewhat, even though he already knew that was just an image. And what's when it turned to look at him, and he KNEW that was a fake. That blank, flat look in the eyes of the image didn't correspond to the last time he saw the girl. It looked more like the flat, dead eyes she had from her memories and the time she had seen herself in a mirror. This image was a memory, nothing more. ... And said memory summarily blew his cover and presence here. For a moment, Jagan wondered how she detected him. His reaction was to snap back behind the corner and behind cover, and he brought both of his pistols to bear next to him as he scanned the hallway behind him to make sure he wasn't being sneaked up on from behind. Nonetheless, now the image knew he was here... And so did that Mobian down the hallway. He wasn't the type to curse though, so he immediately ran through his options. If he attacked, he could possibly dispatch the Mobian swiftly and efficiently. The problem was the Rei image. If he had to activate the Tracer's Matrix, that image could potentially warp his perceptions, and that would be dangerous in battle where he could need his wits about him. Without his hypercognitive trick, he could also potentially dispatch the Mobian, but with less safeguards... He also didn't know why the Mobian was here. If their goals did not clash, it would be wise to leave him to his own devices... But that would also mean that the Mobian might attempt to breach one of the locations Jagan had already secured. This entire situation was spiraling out of control. The most logical decision would be to retreat and make an approach from a different angle, hopefully without any more of these images of Rei appearing to hound him and notice his presence. But if they could... Then that means his position and stealth approach has been compromised entirely. Which also meant more problems. Unfortunately, it would also be good to know if the Mobian was alone or if he came with friends. If he had allies here, that would complicate the situation. ... He would wait to see what the Mobian did now. Depending on his reaction, Jagan would act. |

Though to be honest Jason really couldn't imagine either of his parents doing straight jobs...Rica as a banker was as weird to think about as Kanna working as a librarian. In fear that Rica would surely make it dirty somehow (it wouldn't be hard if he mentioned Kanna as a librarian) Jason didn't vocalize this though, instead he gave a little groan. “I might have an ulterior motive... I don't think staying around here is doing me much good. So if you want the ship, I want to come with you,” Melanie blinked. "Wait, you wanna leave? Why?" She didn't want Galv to blame her for this. [Edda's Ship] "Limbo eh?" Chloe repeated, not looking too worried "Sounds fun. Like a party" "I doubt it" Sarai mumbled, obviously not as impressed. “Yah... And oh! I can't believe I almost forgot, my ship, I call her The Valkyrie.” "Oooooooooh nice name!" Chloe pipped up "Sounds strong" “He wanted to name it after Chloe here but I shot it down,” While Chloe didn't know sign language Sarai did. She was “What do you mean, I did name it after her,” "What'd he say!?" Chloe asked, obviously confused but having a feeling it was about her. |

[Abandoned Space Station] Kimi raised an eyebrow as she listened to the disembodied sound of the voice through the speakers hidden across the room. She frowned, and then turned towards Hammah. “This is getting annoyin'. If Mr. Coma ain't responsible then just what the hell is going on?” Sama sighed, turning his head towards the holographic vision of a stranger in unusual armor. “Yeah we got your distress signal, so you want to tell us what the hell is going on? Who are you, what is this place?” [Haven] Haruka paused. Just letting some stranger come along with her on a highly illegal operation could be a big problem. She couldn't trust a stranger, and if somehow Lily learned of Haruka's true heritage it would be a very big problem. Though Haruka wasn't the type to actually worry too much. Plus this girl was cute. “Fine, but let's get something clear – I've got stuff to do, so I don't want you delaying things. Understood?” “I'm not that bad.” Rica shrugged to Jason. “After all, look at a lot of the people who came out of NERV. Most of my crimes are relatively small compared to them.” [Edda's Ship] “It's a nice ship.” Connor nodded. He decided not to comment on it being named after Chloe. It was rather sweet of Edda, but somehow he never got the 'sweet' vibe from Chloe. [Zoness Facility] Asuka was quiet as she held the rifle in her arms. She didn't care much about the rules of engagement or the mission itself. The entire facility was dangerous, and Gendo was here. She didn't particularly care if the UTR wanted him alive – the universe would be better if Gendo was dead. “Lead the way.” […] Gendo stood as calmly and unemotional as he ever did. Even as he felt the weight around his neck, and even as the folder flew at him. His hand shot out and he caught it, flipping through the contents before tossing them away. “... I don't have time for you today, Shinji. I must speak with your mother. Be gone.” Either he was convinced he was in no real danger, or he was as arrogant as he had ever been. […] “You are wrong.” Rei spoke to the other Rei. There was something in the back of her eyes, something vibrant and alive. So very unlike the old Rei. So very unlike everything she had ever known. “I believe as you do once, but it is not as Ikari stated. I am not replaceable. I am not merely another clone. I am me. You... may or may not even be real.” While Rei was handling things well, Mari was... not. She was watching Asuka, and her eyes were twitching. “Stop it... you're not real... STOP IT! I'll make you stop!” |

I can't see what you're imagining
|
-Zoness Facility- As the Rei image declared there was someone else there, Fox held up his blaster in one hand, staring. “Who's there?” Fox asked, staring ahead towards the Rei image was looking, “Look, I don't mean any harm. I'm Fox McCloud, I'm here on the request of Queen Acorn.” Sonic took a deep breath, coming to a sudden stop in one hallway, frowning as he checked something on his armor. His armor had been mapping by where he had been, and he took a moment to study the lay out he had seen so far. “Okay, weird sounds... strange things,” Sonic said, “Whoever is doing stuff here is seriously messed up.” “Leg wounds are non fatal,” Omega said with a serious look on his robot face, “But I shall use non lethal measures.” He flexed his hands, ready for hand to hand combat. -Haven- Lily paused, glancing towards Melanie now... Leaving without explaining things to her brother might drive a wedge, but... Lily sighed, then turned towards Haruka. “I need a couple hours to say a couple goodbyes and grab my stuff. Okay?” She then turned to Melanie, shaking her head, “It's... nothing that's your fault.” Lily wasn't going to say it wasn't because of Melanie... but she did have to admit it wasn't her fault. “If Galv doesn't get back before I leave, I'll leave a note for him.” -Abandoned Space Station- “I... think he might be responsible,” Hammah said, taking another look at the equipment attached to the man. A terrifying thought was coming to mind, “It's only theory, the U.T.R. cracks down on this kind of research, for good reason. I think... this guy uploaded his mind to a computer.” “I have transcended mortal flesh!” the voice boomed around him, “Submit to your new Master!” There was a gunshot and one of the speakers was blown out, as a figure in black and orange armor appeared. “Hey, lookieloos, what the hell are you doing here?” the figure demanded, aiming his gun towards them now. “My name is Delta,” the hologram said, “A researcher here attempted a forbidden experiment, and has caused a malfunction in this station. I sent off a distress signal, as protocol dictates. Are you part of the Recovery Team?” “Recovery Team? No, we were just nearby,” Jimi answered, shaking his head. “That would make most sense, you were here much earlier then others of my group would be,” Delta said, “But you are not U.T.R., either.” “Well, can't speak for Sama here, but I'm an independent,” Jimi said. -The Valkyrie- “That I named the ship after you,” Edda told Chloe, grinning brightly now. “A badass warrior woman who slaughters foes and decides who lives and who dies. Sounds a lot like you, Chloe.” |

I'll bite your legs off!
|
Zoness Facility The image of Rei blinked at Fox. "You are here for opposite reasons. There are those who would scrap at this decayed corpse like a vulture, such as this one." She pointed at Jagan. "And there are those who would want it gone, like your mistress...and her masters." she said. "Their goals are in direct conflict. Fighting between you is the only logical outcome." [---] Sonic may have stopped, but the wailings didn't. Out of the side rooms, behind and before him, Sonic would have been able to hear the cries of pain and fear and agony and regret... "...Sonic, hero of Mobius...deaf to our cries...why didn't you look for us?...why didn't you find us?...why did you write us off...? ...why...us, and our babies..." No figures appeared before him, but he did see the odd pale blue light in the side rooms... "...Sonic...false hero...false idol...pretender..." the voices called... [---] The vanished images of Rei did not reappear, for the moment...but a whisper, it sounded like, came to her, distant and quiet... "We are as real as you...even more so..." it said. But she may not have heard it over an agonized wail in Asuka's voice. The figure was behind some rubble, but at Mari's outcry...they could see by the movement of pale blue light down the hall that it was moving...finally it stood there, before them, in the center of the hallway, its head tilted as far back as a human head could go, standing on her tiptoes...or maybe the head was even FURTHER back than would be natural. "...you left me here...to die..." The head snapped forward quickly, revealing a decayed face with a collapsed yet still present eye, and burn marks on various places. The ragged gown the translucent figure was clad in revealed bruises, lacerations, and burns on her arms and legs. "...you...left...they...asked me...where...you...had...gone..." The figure began slowly walking toward Mari. "...did you think...I knew? Did you think they LIKED it...when I said I didn't know?" She was ambling, in a way someone with broken legs would walk, if somehow their legs could still support them, but she was coming closer... "...you...left me here...friendless...hopeless...treated worse for your escape...and now WONDERGIRL'S you're new partner...? The scientist's...PET...?" Still closer she ambled, and she reached out to Mari with one arm, ambling closer, closer... [---] Didymus chuckled at Omega's remark. "Heh, wounding him may at least limit his mobility for a while, even if we can't kill him." He nodded to the two of them. "Again, we have no idea what's in here. Stay frosty." As they proceeded into the dimly lit hallway, Yui's voice came to them. "Colonel Didymus, how very fitting they'd send you. If you wish to treat with me...make your way to the center of the facility. I can have the emergency lights light your path..." she said, and all lights but the dim emergency lights (that were still operating) suddenly went out, making the hallway even darker. "...forgive the lack of maintenence, I am one woman and cannot maintain the non-essential features of the ENTIRE base by myself..." Yui said. "I hate being played like this, but we have little choice. Looks like we get to use night vision, or something that will allow better sight in this..." he said, turning on one of his suit's visual aids/filters. They proceeded down the hallway, stopping at one point to plant an explosive. It was quiet, save for the occassional drip of a leaky pipe or bulkhead. Then, they heard a voice. "...Asuka...? Asuka...come to Heaven with me, Asuka. Asuka...fly to Heaven with mommy..." A pale blue light shone around a corner. Didymus' rifle was raised. [---] When Gendo spoke, he was answered just by silence. "Sure you have time for him..." came a female voice- that be a cute Japanese-descended girl who looked vaguely like Yui herself, or at least the "memory' matching that description. "...you customized him after all..." There was only one open door ahead, leading deeper into the facility. As they proceeded through it, they would have entered a medical ward, an operating room fit for all manner of medical proceedures, from heart transplants to delivering babies to cybernetic augmentation. A woman's weeping could be heard, and that same time, the memory's voice. "Don't cry...I'm here now...it's okay..." There were various papers on the health of subjects and the record of procedures performed and treatment for staff and subjects alike. "...and now...you three are here with me as well..." The figure appeared before Gendo and his escorts, its/her face grinning fiendishly. Suddenly they could hear the sound of the medical equipment powering up... Medbots armed with knives and scalpels and laser cutters and stitches and all manner of medical tools suddenly activated in the darkness, rushing at Gendo and his guards with murderous intent! [Zoness Facility] If ever there was one thing that would have assured Jagan that he was not talking to the Rei he knew, this was it. Having spent quite some time as her companion previously (and with a unique look directly into her head to boot), Jagan was more than sure that this was not Rei. This was someone's perverted, twisted view of what Rei SHOULD have been like, a possible outcome if history did not go as it did this time. All because of that statement of logic. Yes, CONFLICT was the logical outcome of the current encounter. However, the resolution of that conflict was entirely dependent on the choices both he and Fox McCloud made at this time. Their weapons were drawn and ready for combat, but this was not an assassination op. This was a stealth mission, based entirely around intelligence gathering and data retrieval. And Jagan had already made basic steps to success by finding several old journals and schematics and the like. Individually, they were not that interesting, but they were being scanned en-masse and assembled into as cohesive whole by one of the greatest minds in human history. And together, they most likely painted a much greater and interesting image than simple ramblings from individual journals or damaged schematics. Then, there was the Mobian. Fox McCloud, otherwise known as the "Star Fox" or simply "Fox" and former leader of "Team Star Fox", an ace pilot of the Mobian race and one of their greatest heroes and best operatives. From the little information that Jagan was privy to, Fox was similarly trained to him, and possessed of the typical Mobian stature. Most importantly, however, was the reference to the Lanterns, a type of energy-to-matter manifestation capability that Nova had been extremely interested in. To what extent was that ability useful Jagan himself did not know, but it was enough of a factor to make him pause. McCloud also claimed that he was on a mission from the Acorn family, the royalty of Mobius, and that complicated things further. No, despite the things that image-Rei was saying, his most logical option was to retreat and go elsewhere, continue his information gathering and then make like the wind out of this place once he gathered what he could. His only limitation was set by his own pragmatic point of view: Nova didn't really NEED anything from this facility. The scientist just WANTED the secrets it held, and stated clearly that it wasn't the greatest priority for Jagan to remain until something specific was found. This Yui character would be interesting to find and Nova certainly pushed for such an outcome, but Jagan knew there would be no reprisal if he decided to abandon mission early. It also helped that this was a NERV location. Jagan had a bit of a... Personal stake in this place. There was something here he wanted to confirm for himself. Violence was only the SECOND-most available and progressively logical option. Fox McCloud was a hero of Mobius, and this was a facility built for NERV's experiments. If Fox was to die here, then it would be blamed on NERV and humanity by extension. Not exactly a prospect Jagan was all too concerned about, but if he tried to eliminate Fox and it failed spectacularly, then the Mobian agent would know that Jagan in particular was involved. While the snake-eyed youth remained unknown at large, there were several factions aware of his presence. The UTR in particular had a rather extensive file on Desty Nova and his history of immoral experimentation, and had files on every one of Nova's team as well. If he tried an assassination of McCloud here, it would have to be sudden, silent and without the Mobian ever laying eyes on him. And that was a difficult prospect at best. Possible... But difficult. Especially with image-Rei watching. Non-lethal options had even more problems, since Jagan wasn't entirely sure of how Fox would respond to appropriate electrical or chemical stimulus. Tranquilizing him could be next to impossible, and electrifying could also have unintended consequences. The third option... Was negotiation. It was the least efficient of his options, and distracted from the mission. It also had the capacity to put him into a position where he'd have to be cautious around a potential ally or potential enemy. As skilled as Star Fox was, Jagan was considering it the least acceptable option for a reason: it would take time, it would distract from his objective, and it would possibly create further tension with image-Rei. On the other hand, it was also a potentially rewarding option. If Star Fox did not get in Jagan's way and they managed to strike a deal where the snake-eyed youth could do as he willed, then it could be a very beneficial partnership. And yet, it was the least likely option, and Jagan wasn't going to take it for quite a few reasons. He wasn't in a position to negotiate terms favorable to him, and he wasn't sure how accepting the Mobian would be to dealing... With his action decided, Jagan put his back up against the corner wall and slid away, moving away from Fox and that image, looking for other labs and access points deeper into the structure... [Zoness Facility] “Wait-” Rei's quiet voice called out to Mari, but it was already too late. Mari reacted to the ambling phantom, and her reaction was... over the top. In a flash Mari reached to her belt and withdrew an over-sized pistol, atop the barrel was a glowing tub swirling with a strange energy source. She squeezed the trigger several times and beams of bright energy fired forth, cutting forward against the etheral image and the walls beyond. […] “Yui Ikari, I can't even believe it...” Asuka was about to focus on the strangeness of hearing the familiar voice of the deranged woman, when she heard a far more familiar voice of a woman far more deranged. Asuka's eyes went wide and she clenched her rifle tight in her hands. “What the f*ck is this place?” […] Of the two remaining Cerberus soldiers, one quickly raised his gauss rifle and opened fire at the murderous medical machines. The other was not as quick and one of the laser cutter's tore at his throat, leaving nothing but gore and the empty shell of a body behind. For his part, Gendo seemed unfazed by either the danger or the death. He calmly pressed a button on the watch her wore and a nearly invisible shimmer sparkled around him – a personal energy shield, and yet as one of the laser cutters slammed against it, it was repelled. The energy field seemed far stronger than what a personal energy shield should be capable of. “Do you think I walked in here with only soldiers to protect me?” [Abandoned Space Station] “Uploaded his mind to a computer? What the hell?” Kimi raised an eyebrow. She was about to say something else, when the armored figure appeared and aimed a gun. Kimi just cracked her knuckles. “I'm not here for a fight, but if you don't get that gun out of my face I'm gonna shove it up your ass and pull the trigger about thirty times. Your call.” […] “I'm with Philanthropy. We're a private organization, but we strive to do good.” Sama explained, as he watched the hologram. “What kind of forbidden experiment, Delta?” [Haven] “Fine, I need time anyway.” Haruka shrugged. She wasn't sure she should trust a stranger, but Haruka had never thought too hard about these things. “Are you sure, kid?” Rica asked Lily, raising an eyebrow. “I don't know this woman, but in my experience Hondo's... business associates, aren't trustworthy.” |
