NL Apocalypse

Melanie's crying turned into loud sobs, while the two just sat there. Every now and then she would try to compose herself but fail miserably, and revert back to crying.

Melanie hadn't known there were people like this in the world. And now it made her curious.

Melanie pulled back, finally composing herself enough to speak. She wiped her eyes on her sleeve and spoke. "Sorry...."

No one would tell her anything if this was how she reacted.

"What else did they do?" she asked, totally serious. "I want to know"

"What else did they do?" she asked, totally serious. "I want to know"

Galv paused, looking to the side.

“Umm...well...” Galv frowned, “Some of it's a blur...I kinda...blocked it out, I think...I remember...needles...Lots of blood tests. Hooking me up to machines to see how much energy I could output...”

He sighed, closing his eyes tightly as he began to recall. He hugged Melanie close now, forgetting his shirt was still off.

“I...try not to remember to much. I'm just glad I met you...found out I could have a different life,” Galv answered. Cheesy and corny? Yes. But Galv wasn't really aware of that.

He paused again, composing himself. He wanted to say something...They had said it before.

“I...love you Melanie...And I don't want to see you cry because of me...”

(I will light up the sky...Light it up for you...Let me tell you why...I would die for you!~

Melanie was visibly pale, her cheeks and eyes still wet. The girl couldn't even begin to imagine being treated in such a way, and hated so much to have to imagine Galv in such a state. Both Galv and her mother were two of the bravest people she knew, and if they came out of their experience in such a way she knew she definitely wouldn't have survived at all.

Now she understood why her mother freaked out so easily regarding Galv. It clicked and she suddenly understood that Kanna didn't just hate Galv for no reason...Perhaps she was afraid of all this happening to her?

She didn't know, but it did make sense.

Suddenly the girl was pulled into another warm hug and she burst into another fit of tears. The girl sobbed against him. It didn't feel strange or awkward (Melanie didn't realize it was supposed to) but she was a little worried she was hurting him. The scar still didn't look totally pain-free.

“I...love you Melanie...And I don't want to see you cry because of me...”

"S-sorry" she mumbled between cries, still finding a need to apologize for her childish behavior. She looked up and kissed the boy.

Suddenly a quick knock on the door. Melanie's eyes instantly snapped back open and she broke the kiss, looking over to the door which now opened.

There stood Jason (and most likely Erin), looking alarmed that Galv was in his baby sister's room alone...WITHOUT his shirt....And Melanie had been crying. That really wasn't a good combo.

But Jason was a lot more level-headed than Kanna. Especially because the red headed boy knew if he did anything to hurt Melanie he would have been chopped up into tiny bits.

Jason noticed Galv's torso...Looks like he was already halfway there.

"What happened?" He asked, eying the boy suspiciously, but not jumping to any conclusions.

Galv took a deep breath, blushing when Melanie kissed him. This was a big reason why he was glad he was no longer in NERV.

But then the door open, revealing Jason, and an annoyed Erin. She wasn't annoyed at what Galv and Melanie were doing, but more annoyed that she and Jason weren't doing anything.

“...She wanted to know about NERV,” Galv explained to Jason, “I was...telling her...About things they did to me...”

He pointed to the stitches on his chest, “I thought...she deserved to know.”

Erin looked at the scar and shuddered slightly. She had never been hurt, physically...But NERV had given her a lot of mental damage. One of the reasons for her psychotic behavior.

"You were telling her about NERV?!" Jason exclaimed at the boy. Melanie quickly wiped her face in effort to compose herself around her brother. She stayed where she was though.

"Didn't you think there was a reason Kanna didn't say anything about them to her, or why she makes her leave the room when they're mentioned?!" he continued "This isn't stuff she needs to hear"

"Jason, it isn't his fault...I asked" Melanie echoed, biting her lip.

"And he shouldn't have answered." Jason finished. "He motioned to Galv's shirt "And put that back on before Kanna sees you and give's you some new scars...."

The room was silent for a moment. Then Melanie decided to ask one more thing.

"Jason, is that what happened to mom too? And you too Erin...And all of them?"

"Mel drop it"

"But-"

"Melanie drop it now!" Jason yelled, visibly annoyed. Melanie instantly went quiet, obviously not used to being yelled at by her older brother.

The room was suddenly a lot more tense.

“She deserves to know...She shouldn't be kept in the dark about it,” Galv said. He grabbed his shirt and pulled it on, covering the stitches.

“If she doesn't hear it from someone she trusts, Melanie's just going to keep trying to find out...And I'd rather she hear it from me then someone else,” Galv continued. “She has a right to know...”

"Jason, is that what happened to mom too? And you too Erin...And all of them?"

Erin was quiet, moving back and forth on a spot, shuddering a little.

“...Yes and no...” Erin spoke up, quietly, clutching Jason's arm. “All of us were treated differently, for the most part...” she glanced to Jason, “I'm not going to say how though...I just know...for me, at least...I wasn't cut up...”

Jason could probably attest to that...

Here's a kitten.

Jason groaned, rubbing his head. Melanie currently looked like she had seen a ghost, the effect he and Kanna had been trying to avoid since NERV came back into their lives.
"Why didn't you guys fight, why did you just let them hurt you all?" Melanie demanded, once again face wet with tears. While Jason, Galv, and Erin understood that it was not that easy, Melanie couldn't grasp the concept. She didn't understand evil like those once in NERV could. Heck, Jason was just as naive in that fact.

It's a lot different when you experience it.

"Melanie calm down" Jason said, this time quietly "You're going to get yourself sick"

Melanie looked to Galv "If they did all of this...Why did you want me to join as well?" She asked, wiping her face.

“It wasn't that simple...” Erin said, as Galv was quiet. “We...were watched, for one, among other things. We couldn't just leave...Heck, the idea of leaving just never came up for me, not until more recently. It was the only life we knew...”

She did not mention to Melanie that she had killed several NERV employees in her past though. She had already told Jason.

"If they did all of this...Why did you want me to join as well?"

Galv shook, refusing to look at Melanie.

“...Because...I thought I could protect you. I thought I could make sure nothing bad would happen to you,” Galv answered quietly, “I really liked you...I didn't want to lose you...I never had anything to hope for, before...”

He didn't sit down, just stood there, trying to stop himself from crying.

"But what if you couldn't?"

The room went quiet once more. Melanie wasn't looking at Galv and he wasn't looking at her. Jason watched both children intently, debating whether or not to intervene. He did like that the two weren't all over each other...But this wasn't what he wanted either. Both looked as if they were about to burst into tears...Melanie was very pale.

"Melanie he wasn't going to let you get hurt..."Jason reasoned with the girl even though Melanie brought up a valid point. There was a good chance that the two would have been separated back at NERV...Then what happened to them would happen to her.

Now Jason felt sick.

“I wouldn't have let them hurt you...” Galv said, clenching his fists. The combination of the sugary syrup from breakfast and his own emotions was causing him to spark, his hair standing up on end, his entire body crackling.

“If they did...if they...hurt you at all...I...I...” he faltered, “I would have...”

Galv clenched his fist, then threw it forward at the wall, letting out a blast of electricity, Erin covering her eyes from the brightness as it hit the wall. Thankfully Nova had a very sturdy ship.

“I would have made sure it would have never happened again...” Galv answered, then turned, heading out the door and down the hallway.

“I'm sorry...”

Melanie turned around in just enough time to see Galv punch the wall, lightening crackling brightly from his hand. Jason rushed over and clapped his hands over Melanie's eyes, protecting them from the very bright light.

Melanie had never been able to handle bright lights. On the other hand it didn't faze Jason. He glared at the boy but said nothing. He knew that was Galv's emotions that were the culprit, not him wanting to hurt anyone.

Jason sighed, looking to the door that Galv just rushed out of...He REALLY didn't want to have a heart to heart with his sister's boyfriend...

Jason dropped his hands from Melanie's face and looked to Erin. The girl was just about ready to cry again.

"Stay with Mel" he said, "I'll be right back"

Galv found an unused room, entering and sitting down in the corner, back to the door. He had his legs to his chest, eyes closed, trying very hard not to cry.

He wasn't entirely sure what he was going through. He was mostly worried that Melanie would never want to see him again. There had been very, very few things that Galv had liked, or had wanted.

Galv didn't want to lose Melanie...But he was also wondering if maybe she'd be better off without him.

Erin blinked, as Jason left to follow Galv. She glanced to Melanie, biting her lower lip.

“Ummm...there, there?” Erin wondered, walking forward and patting Melanie on the back. She was not use to comforting people.

Jason rushed after Galv's keeping up with the boy and following him into a small unused room. Jason stopped, and looked down at the boy who was sitting on the ground, one harsh word from breaking out in tears.

...Oh geez. Jason was no good at this. When Melanie was upset he would just hug the girl....He doubted that would work here.

When he had been upset as a kid his mom just made him suck it up. That's what boys were supposed to do after all....

"Suck it up" Jason stated after a few seconds. "You aren't a kid so stop acting like one."

Wow...That sounded mean.

"My sister loves you. She ran away three times to stay with you and she's just about cried herself sick because you were hurt before she even met you. Sitting here crying like a baby isn't proving to me, or her, that you're worth being with her. Hell, and don't even let Kanna see you like this."

Jason sighed "If you care about here, suck it up. That's what you do when you grow up"

[...]

Melanie calmed herself down again after Galv and Jason left. For a few moments she stared at the door, but finally she spoke.

"Im sorry you all had to go through that..."

Galv shook slightly, closing his eyes tightly.

"You aren't a kid so stop acting like one."

“I never was a kid...” Galv said simply, clutching his legs tighter, “I never got to do anything like a kid...I was trained, I was experimented on and with. I have no idea what it's like to be a kid...”

"If you care about her, suck it up. That's what you do when you grow up"

“I don't know what it's like to be a grown up either...All I know is NERV and...and the little I've learned thanks to Melanie...” Galv sniffled. “I wanted to be honest with her...and I'm just worried that she won't...that she won't love me anymore.”

Probably not the best thing to say to the older brother of Melanie, but he was a bit of an emotional wreck at the moment.

Erin sighed, then gave Melanie a faint smile, taking a seat next to her.

“You don't have to be sorry. It's not your fault...” Erin said, “I think...I think Galv's just worried. I know I was...He's afraid that you'll reject him because of his past...I...I was afraid that Jason would do that because of mine past...But he didn't...”

She did not go into detail about her past...or how Jason really didn't reject her in the slightest.

“Those of us in NERV...Don't really know how to handle things in the real world. These are all new things for us...” Erin continued, “Believe me...lots of new things...”

Oh geeeeeez this was awkward... Jason didn't want a boy being in love with his little sister...She was much too young for that. She still had to grow up....THEN he would worry about hormone driven boys...Ugh.

But still...If anyone was in love with Melanie he supposed Galv was the best.

"You could tell that girl you hate her one hundred times over and she would still love you kid....You need to protect her......I know you think she should be able to know things about NERV but she doesn't get it...And trying to explain it to her would just hurt her. That's why Kanna doesn't tell her about NERV."

Jason went silent for a moment "...You both are entirely too young for this..."

[...]

Melanie rubbed her eyes, looking to Erin "I wouldn't reject him...I wouldn't reject any of you for what was done before...I'm just confused about why it all happened. Why they would do such horrible things..."

Melanie looked back down "...And I don't think Jason would reject you...I think he likes you..."

(No duh Melanie...KITTENS)
