Pat Richards – who booted Wigan to a thrilling victory last Sunday – has opened talks about extending his stay at the JJB Stadium.

The goal-kicking winger's three-year deal expires at the end of this season.

And chairman Ian Lenagan has revealed he has already started negotiations with Richards' agent over a new contract.

Lenagan hopes a deal with the sharp-shooter can be struck within the next few weeks.

Pat is one hell of a player and Wigan would be stupid not to throw big money at this guy to keep him!
