As promised late on last week saying that I would write an article on the changes and transformations the forum has gone through, all the way back to day 1, I’m happy to tell you that I will be writing about it, and you can catch it all below.... 'Once upon a ti.......well it wasn't quite the dream start we all had in mind, but myself and Belly (who I will refer to as Jason throughout the article) made this forum to escape an old one. What we may have done may have been viewed as cruel or unfair, but we wouldn’t be were we are today if we hadn’t left the original board which was run by myself and Joe. (Some kid who thinks he’s a better web designer than me...pftt!) Me and Joe had been running the original forum for quite some time, and the amount of changes he made on a daily basis was really beginning to annoy me. The main banners and skin would change constantly, and I wasn’t the root admin of the forum I had so much dedication for, meaning that Joe could shut the forum down when ever he pleased been the root-admin which looking like something he may do after always arguing and bittering away. I wanted them powers of my own and I asked him time after time to switch accounts but he refused. The forum me and Joe ran was 'Oldfaithful Forums', generally dedicated to Hull FC, but everyone was welcome. When I met Jason over the Internet we created a cunning plan to replica the exact forum I had been running, copy the skin, banner, threads, posts, etc and make it into our own, destroy the old forum with the little admin powers I had. Obviously Joe was very angry at what we did, and threatened me, (although I have met him in person since at Bradford and he was nothing but nice to me! <eyeroll>) but at least we had our own forum which we could really call home. The old forum held under 5,000 posts and around 100 members, we left at the right time many may say! So it was a new start and Jason and me were in charge of creating everything, which has led up to where the forum stands today. We continued the same forum name for the next couple of months 'Oldfaithful Forums' but it became clear that if we really wanted to grow the forum, we had to target every rugby league fan, and not just those from East Yorkshire. Besides, we already had some early support from the likes of Dusty, Hullfc1972, xHelzx, and Dany1979 (Now known as Lacuna) who were with us from the very start and are still with us now. Thanks a lot guys! With that we re-vamped everything to a name which I made up. To this day I still don’t know if people actually like the name of the site. All I was sure with was the fact that it was very catchy. (Rugby League Today Dot Co Dot Uk) Since mid-late 2005 we have had a couple of different forum skins for RugbyLeagueToday or RLT as people like to call it, and we probably will have new forums and skins in the future as well as new developments to help introduce more new members, but things from than until now have gone pretty smooth. As all forums do, we had the stage of the 'trolls'. Mainly Hull KR fans who couldn’t stand the fact FC fans were running their own potentially successful forum and they still attempt to access the forum to this day, as it shows in my validation account records from time to time, but as far as I’m concerned they shouldn’t be back again. We've had some many other funny and peculiar stories on and around the forum. Theres the member who made 49 spamming posts (as sad as it was to say, let alone a waste of time!) and there’s the person (who ever it was) who pretended to be some female Hull FC supporter and really gave it a good shot, with over 100 decent posts, until they were caught out by the actual female supporter themselves, unless it was really her in the first place....who knows, who cares!? We have been increasing our member and post count ever since we launched the original forum. It was only in December 2005 when we had around 4,000 posts. Phenomenally it has risen to little under 50,000 posts only half a year later which is a magnificent achievement in my opinion. It is in our plans to try and boost member activity and bring in more new fans of the great game to sign up, but we need to improve our advertising a little bit better. A goal which I will be working towards throughout the rest of this year. When the months were rolling past, new forums were introduced to the forum. Instead of one section for all rugby league fans to post, every Super League and National League 1 team had their very own forum board created. Some of the team forums are now moderated, particularly the bigger boards and those that are looking popular for the future. There's Fully in the Castleford section than theres Bramley Rhino in the Leeds section, who also runs a tipping game on a weekly basis. Than theres Emma on the Wigan board who still continues to amaze everyone I think. When we joined the forum, the Hull FC section was obviously by far the biggest posting forum on the entire site, given the fact it used to be a forum dedicated to Hull FC. We can safely say we have ditched the old theme well and truly, and its a huge thanks to Emma who has made the Wigan forum the biggest club posting forum on the site.....YES, even bigger than that of Hull FC! (Keep up the hard work in spain Emma! big_grin) Now I have to give a mention to the locker room. All forums what ever the subject have their very own off-topic zone were people say what they want, when they’re done discussing the latest news and views of the day. But our unique creation has exceeded all expectations. The locker room alone is now pushing for 25,000 posts alone which is magnificent. Everyone who comes online doesn’t go offline without having a browse in this brilliant forum because there’s so much fun and mayhem, you cant help but take a quick peep. Shanny has done brilliantly to help boost activity in the locker room, and is very enthusiastic towards the forums very own Big Brother within the bowels of the locker room. Only recently, have we teamed up with two rugby website companies, offering the forum 5% on all purchases made from their site, if people buy things if originally clicking on the links at our home page, which is going to help us make new funds for the future. On top of all that I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has contributed their all to the forum, who come online and make posts everyday and never has a bad word to say about the forum. You’re a credit to the forum and rugby league as whole, fantastic fans, moderators, and everyone else on the team! Big pat on the back to all of you! So....all thats left to say is, its 1 year old, the forum has set its standards and has new aims and objectives for next year. I wonder what ill be saying in a thread similar to this on 05.07.07.....if you stick around for the future, than you may just find out! Thanks a lot and happy birthday RugbyLeagueToday!
