More Info on Previous Elder Wand Owners and more

Posted by j-net (Headmistress) at Sep 7 2008, 01:01 PM. 0 comments

Scholastic, the US publishers of the Harry Potter novels, have updated their website with additional information regarding some of the content to be found in the new “Tales of the Beedle the Bard” book by J.K. Rowling due December 4 of this year. Noting the material written 18 months before his death, Professor Albus dumbledore is said to reveal ” not just his vast knowledge of Wizarding lore, but also more of his personal qualities: his sense of humor, his courage, his pride in his abilities, and his hard-won wisdom.” Of particular interest are the new details we can expect to find regarding “Aberforth dumbledore, Lucius Malfoy and his family, and Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington (or “Nearly Headless Nick”), as well as other professors at Hogwarts and the past owners of the Elder Wand. dumbledore tells us of incidents unique to the Wizarding world, like hilariously troubled theatrical productions at Hogwarts or the dangers of having a “hairy heart.” But he also reveals aspects of the Wizarding world that his Muggle readers might find all too familiar, like censorship, intolerance, and questions about the deepest mysteries in life.”

If you have not yet done so, be sure to check out in depth the new cover art by Mary Grande Pre on the Scholastic website, as well as see photos of the deluxe edition of the book here in our image galleries, along with the UK edition of the novel. Single High Res images of the US book cover can be seen via this link, the UK cover right here.

Again, all proceeds of this book, sales of which are expected to exceed 8 million dollars, will benefit the Children’s High Level Group. As noted before, there will be two editions of the book, a special Collector’s Edition and the Standard version both will be published December 4, 2008.

Well, WB might have delayed the release of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” until July of next year, but the promised test screenings of the movie are taking place this month as announced previously by director David Yates. Tonight, one such test screening was held in Chicago and there is a thread ongoing in our forum that contains a report of the film, including a description on the Harry Ginny kiss, Slughorn and more. CAUTION MAJOR SPOILER ALERT at this link. We hope to have more on this shortly and will update here as soon as we can.

Thanks so much to Rach!

Actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) has been cast in a new film entitled “Wild Target” which will also star actor Bill Nighy and Harry Potter co-star Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange). Our Order partner RupertGrint.net is reporting today the comedy/drama is based on the 1993 French film called “Cible Emouvante,” and will possibly film around “London and the Isle of Man” in the UK. Filming, according to our Order partner, is slated to being on September 16th. A brief synopsis of the upcoming film has also now been released and reads:

This dark comedy has a middle-aged hitman Victor Meynard (played by Bill Nighy) go on his last hit job before he retires. He ends up running into a delivery boy, Antoine (Rupert Grint). Unable to kill the adolescent, Meynard adopts him as his apprentice, in spite of Antoine’s evident lack of enthusiasm for his new career. They are hired by a Corsican gangster to kill a con artist Renée Dandrieux (Helena Bonham Carter). Again, Meynard’s luck is against him, and when he fails to kill Renée, with Antoine’s help, the Corsican gangster sends another hitman to kill all three of them.”

the current "Harry-est Towns" in America are:

1. Falls Church, VA
2. Fairfax, VA
3. Vienna, VA
4. Gig Harbor, WA
5. Katy, TX
6. Media, PA
7. Issaquah, WA
8. Snohomish, WA
9. Woodinville, WA

The company will use the most recent U.S. Census data and include all U.S. towns and cities with a population of more than 5,000 people.
