I've just had an email from my cousin in the UK who has treated herself to a new car.

The Nissan Dualis is a confusing mix. Half off-road, half on, neither tall nor short, long nor short. Those of you reading this from the UK will be saying: "Nissan what?".

Those in the land of the Never-Never, between the deep blue endless sky, the red rocks and the earthly creatures of the night may have heard of it but probably wont be aware that in the UK it's called the (are you ready for this?) Qashqai.

Of course, when told of cousin Deb's new purchase I was unsure what she had bought. She omitted the 'Nissan' and informed me she was happy with her new diesel Qashqai. Er.... What?

So I had to Giggle the name and chose Wikipedia as my point of reference:

The Qashqai name (pronounced [qaʃqa¢°ʔi¢°] comes from the original Qashqai tribe in southwestern Iran (Persia). Nissan's designers say they believe that its buyers will be nomadic in nature too. The Chinese nameplate was to be CCUV which was short for "Compact Crossover Utility Vehicle," but since the Chinese launch the car has been named Qashqai. In Australia, the Qashqai carries the name Dualis. This was chosen out of fear that Australians might call it the "cash cow"

I suspect Deb's off now to roam the southern plains of England for a few years...
