What a weekend! We went to the Festival of Flight at a tiny airfield in the middle of nowhere, about an hour's drive inland. You never know what Aussie events are going to be like - usually small, sometimes tacky, but it was something to do in 33 degrees of extraordinary winter's heat and, as it turned out, it was bloody brilliant.

Just before we were leaving I bought Mrs Pom a $10 raffle ticket for a prize of a flight in a 1934 Dragon - a small passenger bi-plane aircraft. She bought me one two. Their were five seats as prizes being drawn about ten minutes later. So we hung around in the heat eating lunch. One hour later we were both airborne! This, in the very same type of plane that royalty used for hopping around Britain and overseas in the Art Deco years.
