When the sun's not shining... Sure, it can feel cold. But I'm not complaining about the sunny days. Remember the good old days when you got up in the dark, came home in the dark and spent ages scraping off ice before you could go to work in winter and before you could drive home? No thank you.

One year, when I was living in the UK, I returned home from a trip to Australia in December. It had been bitterly cold in the UK and the pipes had frozen. Fortunately I'd had the sense to turn off the water supply but that didn't stop the upstairs tank from emptying its contents through the ceiling and into the house via a dozen splits in the pipes after thawing. One room was completely wrecked. Not the sort of home-coming surprise anybody would want. Fortunately the home insurance paid for the re-decoration and repairs, but not until the dehumidifiers had done their work over two weeks, night and day...

After 5 years I have definately acclimatised.......and this year have found it really chilly in the morning and evening...but the thing is I'm in denial.....I live in Australia I think I can wear summer clothes all year round...so when I shudder and complain "it's SO cold" I get a comment like, "well put some clothes on then"!! 'Rug up' it's the only way.

PS. Went back to the UK this last Christmas....OMG now we are talking cold, I was so wrapped up I could hardly walk for all the layers!! :happynod:

I was out doing the sunday walk along a beach yesterday - Coolum in fact - and there were people barely clad in a cool 20 degrees with cooler winds. It was definitely a jeans and jumper day, but these Queenslanders... I'd forgotten about the lack of clothes syndrome that is synonymous with the locals 'up north'. I swear they only own one set of clothing.

Dave, I sympathise with you. I saw the forecast the other day for Toowoomba - 13 degrees top and near as dammit zero minimum. Stanthorpe saw -1. Bet that makes you feel a whole lot warmer.

Hi all

when i first moved down to Sydney from Darwin where i spent a year i thought it was freezing, i rugged up in boots, jeans, tee shirt, shirt and demin jacket..it was mid november and 24c. Took me a while to thaw out! Since then i lived up and down the coast but had to move to a little place just outside of Canberra called Bungendore two years back. We moved down in May and that was cold, really cold, if lake george had any water in it it would have frozen over..very cold. Think the penines, cold, i dont want to labour the point too much but cold is a fine description. I found sense and moved north to Coffs!
