The latest update from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC): ORDER OF PROCESSING GENERAL SKILLED MIGRATION APPLICATIONS From 1st January 2009, DIAC introduced a new and strict processing structure to Skilled visa applications, which are prioritised in the following order: 1. Employer Nominated sponsorship; then 2. State or Territory Sponsorship; then 3. An occupation on the Critical Skill List (CSL); then 4. Business Skills; then 5. An occupation on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL); and then 6. All other applications STATE OR TERRITORY SPONSORED - Subclasses 475 and 176 If you have obtained state or territory sponsorship your visa application will be processed as a priority. However it can take up to 2 months from the time sponsorship is approved until it is registered on DIAC's system. Once registered on DIAC's system your application will be allocated to a case officer for assessment and once conducted they will make contact if they require additional information or documentation. OBTAINING STATE OR TERRITORY SPONSORSHIP DURING PROCESSING If you have applied for Class VE subclass 175 and obtain state or territory sponsorship your application will be considered under Subclass 176. We recommend if you would like to speed up the process of your visa application then obtaining state sponsorship is your best option. To apply for State or Territory government sponsorship please visit the following website and select your preferred state to see if you can satisfy their criteria: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/nom-by-state-terr-gov.htm ACCOUNTANTS If your nominated occupation is Accountant you can sit an IELTs test to obtain the Proficient level of a minimum of 7 in each band to receive priority processing. APPLICATIONS NOT ON CSL DIAC are unable to provide a definitive timeline for finalising applications who are not on the CSL or applications not currently eligible for priority processing. OPTIONS IF YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR PRIORITY PROCESSING Should you be able to secure employment in Australia, you may wish to consider an employer-sponsored visa or alternatively seek State or Territory government sponsorship. Employer Sponsorship - the Australian Employer must have a sponsorship number to be eligible to sponsor employees. They must also be able to guarantee employment for a period of time (varying from one to four years) under the Temporary Business (Subclass 457) visa, the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) or the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS). For more information on the employer Sponsored Visa visit: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/visa-options.htm To apply for State or Territory government sponsorship please visit the following website and select your perferred state to see if you can satisfy their criteria: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/nom-by-state-terr-gov.htm ALLOCATION DATES The Skilled Processing Centres are unable to provide indicative timeframes for allocation or processing of individual applications, however, to check 'general' allocation dates, you can send a blank email to: aspc.processing@immi.gov.au Kim |
