WooooooHooooooo!!!! Caught my first ever Snapper today - thanks to a poster on here who I'll call my Aussie Fishing Buddy or AFB for short ![]() Through a local fishing forum AFB has given me tips/advice and encouragement - amongst quite a few other on there. So AFB thought it was time to take my new boat out and go for Snapper. A very early and dark start - no idea where we went! But it was a loooong way out! I must admit I was a little nervous as there was a bit of swell out there ( nothing to you long term fishos I know) - that + pitch black for the first time was quite unsettling.AFB was driving the boat,I was just not confident in those conditions(waves coming over the boat!) + I wanted to see what AFB's opinion of the boat was. Glad to say he was pleased with her!! BUT as daylight broke we stopped as we saw some likely images on the fishfinder. In no time I was "on" - not a massive one by the pics I've seen on the forums, AFB giving plenty of encouragement and advice. So in no time there was my first Snapper!!! Must admit I came out with a few choice ,celebratory swear words  :shock:AFB then hit one of the same size. I was really pumped now and had Snapper lust plus the sea was calming somewhat. Well to cut a long story short they were it for the day,had a good few more bites but no takers. AFB was constantly giving tips and certainly showed me stuff I'd not read about or would have thought of myself. I very openly would like to thank AFB for taking me out and arranging that first Snapper. I'll never forget today, stuff dreams are made of for me - and why I moved here from the UK. The whole day felt like a "Hunting expedition" Great to see what the boat can do and get the seal of approval from an experienced fisho! A small and average day out for some but my first! Never saw any big /bitey things :thumright: I only got 2 hours sleep last night but I can't feel tired at all - perhaps the adrenalin will wear off later this week icon_lol What's for tea?Huh?............................. SNAPPER!!!!!

Are you au fait with life jackets and flares? Perhaps not seeing the big waves is a bonus as most would poo their pants at the prospect. Working 15 hours a day at the mo - well, seems like it. Not quite but bloody busy. Mrs Pom's in Perth for a couple of weeks work so life's a hoot, not! Anyway, got to go and water the plants, vacuum the house, flee the cat, prepare a stunning meal for one and then watch those dudes on their motorbikes travelling down thru Africa. Oh, and the cycling in Adelaide - mustn't miss that one. Do they passed nearby Russ? Crikey, I need a drink... |

I'm up to spec on safety regs and requirements For the distance we went out I'm kitted for full blue water boating. 2 smoke flares. 2 Flares (night time) 2 Parachute flares. EPIRB (emergency Position indicating radio beacon) V sheet Torch Oars (who's gonna row an 18.5ft boat?) Type 1 PFD (life jackets) Bucket. Local charts 4.5 l of water Fire extinguisher. Radio ( I have both 27mhz and VHF with emergency positioning) Sure I've forgotten something. Comforting to have onboard - the police and Transport SA do on the spot inspections as well - good thing I think. Safety is the first word My boating buddies are very keen on it so I do feel safe with them. Looks like you have a lot on your plate - sure you'll cope The Tour Down Under does come near us - the Hills stage near Willunga and McLaren Vale. The place gets packed when they come through! |

Thank you! Looks like I've a queue of people wanting to go out fishing with me. Not all my own work though. I've gotten to know some of the local fishos who are kindly sharing their knowledge and "secret" spots. The big fish from a few days ago arose because a local said he thought it was time he took me out for a trophy fish.Boy does he know what he is doing! His style of fishing is very different,I'm learning so much. In fact we are out again on Sat morning,3.00am start!! He want's to take someone else out to get a big fish! |

3am That's insane. Years back, in 1991 when I lived out here for 11 months, my parents invited me to a big outdoor garage/flea market in Brisbane. Little did I know that we'd need torches to see what was on the tables. What is it about Australians that they need to get up at silly times on a weekend?Mrs Poms comments about Perth are coming through. She's nearly finished her stint over there. Light evenings are great. Unfortunately Queensland's pollies, still stuck in the Middle Ages, insist on ensuring that we never change our clocks for anyone - even to keep pace with the people in NSW on the border. It's like living in a different country up here. |

That can't be 20lbs. It's massive! Or have you very long arms and a wide-angle lens... |

It was 20lbs - trying to beat that now. 30lbs is very possible ( a few have been taken this year) and a report is buzzing around locally of a 40lb'er - pics are going to be up in a local forum today. Going out today for some smaller stuff.Taking a friend's two lads for their first boat trip, should be interesting

There is some reallllly big stuff out there. There are some nice Mulloways around at the moment - the top end size ones are as big as me nearly. I'm planning to go out sharking with an experienced fisho when we hear reports of some around. 3 sizes.......... Throwbacks size. Yum!! Size Cut the F@#$%^&g Line! I don't care how it sounds... I'd rather swim with gay sharks than Nessie. Doesn't it bother you when the boat starts to lean a little too much to one side? How's Mrs Tyke finding all this? Checked your life insurance policy lately?

We had some Gay Sharks putting on a show when we took my mate's lads out the other day. Jumping clear out of the water around us,lovely to see. Mrs Tyke comes out with us on the shorter tips - as long as the weather is calm.
