Anyone for tennis?

About a year or so ago, members of this forum participated in the biggest competition ever seen in the Sourthern Hemisphere on A New Life Down Under (that's your typical Aussie waffle version - blown out of all proportion to impress ). Almost every other day one or two people join this forum, but they don't post. Bizarre. Perhaps they're hoping to receive frequent mail updates. How interesting... Wouldn't it be just dandy if everyone that joined followed up with a post, and then when they got a reply, well, wouldn't it just be nice. Forums rarely have competitions to improve audience participation. In fact, does anyone know of another that has? Are we alone, I wonder? We gave away a spangly DVD of a beautiful part of Australia as the first prize and, if my fuzzy memory doesn't fail me, the idea was to put yourself in the draw by amassing 30 or so posts by a certain time, thereby getting to know one another better and standing a chance of winning the grand prize. It makes me very happy to report that the winner of that prize is still with us, scribbling from time to time and helping the forum tickover. So are a few of the original battlers! But now the time has come to rev the engine some more. From a gentle tickover it's time to go put the pedal to the floor. It's COMPETITION TIME Stage 1. Forums are places for discussion. I invite EVERYONE to participate in this first part of the competition. Indeed, post as many times as you like (there may be bonus points to be had...) and when it's time to move on to stage 2, we will all know who is in the running for the prize and what it is. So here's the deal. It's time to have some fun. The objective is to post frequently, and for every single post in this thread we'd like you to post in one other thread too. (Is this too much to ask? Perhaps it is...) Start a new one if you want - that would be great. So, one post here, one post somewhere else. Here's the clever bit. In order to qualify for stage 2, you must post in here. That'll give us a shortlist of entrants. What is stage 2? No telling yet. And there is no definite deadline to stage 1 other than when there appears to be enough competitors to move on to stage 2. So tell us what is it that you're looking to win? Be realistic (please... ) and let us all know what it is that you'd like A New Life Down Under to give away as a prize and perhaps why other suggestions made by fellow members aren't really realistic (but be nice about it). Remember, this is a migration forum, Australian based, so make the prize you'd like to receive something useful in that respect. Oh yes, no matter how many times I post, I can't win, so all's fair. The competition is now open. Let the fun begin.

Ooer was so excited at entering forgot about that!!! Well I know a plane ticket is out of the question (sorry just had to ask) - but a DVD on Adelaide would be nice - more information I can gather about the area the better is much appreciated, ta very much. "Waffles" my middle name. I'll re-write it when my head's a bit clearer. Got bitten by a spider yesterday. Well, can't really be certain it was a spider but it probably was when I went to collect the recycle bin at the end of the road. Plenty of webs on that. I went down with a fever - headache, achy joints, shivers, high temps. Lasted most of the afternoon and into the evening and this morning feeling heaps better but still a little sore in the head - probably de-hydration. The symptoms just came on so quick. One moment I was on top of the world, the next minute all my muscles, then my joints were aching, followed by rising temps and even cramps in my feet. Time to surface spray the bins... |

I wonder what type it was? I'd really like to have known. Both bins have plenty of webs around them at the top so they do need spraying. Gloves are an important part of life in this country, especially if you're a gardener. I spend a lot of time tinkering with old cars and they're full of spiders and their webs. Russ, I'm a bloke. You know that we never go to the doctors unless we're dragged there or about to drop down dead

Kim, changing the subject for a mo, how's the house sale interest going? I ask because the exchange rate is very, very good right now - have you done your sums on a tempting sale price or is the general prospect of selling a house over there right now so bleak it doesn't bear thinking about? |

Well thats a very good question at the minute We're thinking of renting in the current climate. I work for a Financial Adviser and things are pretty bleak (I've already had my hours reduced its that bad) and George is in the building trade!!! To be honest can't see it getting any better for a good while yet. So I think the rental route is going to be for us (luckily we already have someone lined up if we do). I'm currently selling my life on ebay all to make extra money - OH thinks I'm mad but it all adds up! I've made enough for 1 plane ticket so far. Already sold my trusty VW (Basil ), just sold OH's motorbike and got the car and van to sell before we go so it all adds up slowly. We won't be coming with much, but are going to try and secure a long term rental and pay it up front before we leave so that we won't have to think about it whilst we're there. So that's where we're at, at the mo! |
