Well OK a Spiny Echidna!! I've just had the dogs out for their last tiddle and heard lots of barking. Shone the torch where the dogs were barking and there is an Echidna digging up my flipping garden!!! A huge mound of earth and it looks like he is not stopping until he gets to China. Lovely to see and chuffed he or she decided to visit.Hopefully he/she has not done too much damage to my garden. I did give him a scratch and those spines are tough. I love living in Oz and all it throws up Special on the spot report from your roving reporter in Darwin next week we are off up on a little business next week

We are thinking of investing in another here. The returns are very good. We had considered a third furnished in Adelaide but this is easier and far less risky It's still booming here with no sign of slow down due to the new gas line coming in. |

Are prices as competitive as they are in Adelaide? Presumably you'll be looking at a regular tenancy rather than a migrant short-termer? We're thinking we might sell the Hervey Bay beachsider next year if the market strengthens and look at buying something closer for migrant occupation on the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane. |

Prices are higher and set to keep rising. Say a $350K house in Adelaide will be at least $500K in Darwin. There are a few rough areas as well, you'd have to do your homework. The property we have is an apartment - very popular in Darwin as there is quite a transient population that comes in to work short term. But ours is totally managed and a bit different. If you are running a short term house you need to live very near it - things can go wrong. Edited by Tyke, Sep 21 2008, 12:02 AM.

Sorry mate - been off the boil what with working on the Beetle for the road-worthy test. Had to take the engine out yesterday to replace an oil seal that decided to 'let go' after just a couple of days on the road. Coincidentally, a rear axle seal appears to have sprung a leak so that's a job that needs doing too before too long. Thanks for the info re: property |
