OK have just got to post something about Team GB - utterly fantastic this year :D Chris Hoy is god!
Shame about Shanaze Reade, a local girl who unfortunately didn't pull it off this time.

Bet the aussies aren't as impressed as we are at the mo! :P

You're right.! GB have done exceptionally well - due in part to the way sport at this level is now funded, after the shambles of Atlanta, by a proportion of the lottery and also due to 2012. I think it's great.

The Aussies do mention GB's rise to fame every now and then (ok, every day) but they also point out that the UK has a greater population than itself. Pah! Personally, if you think about how well the Aussies do in the swimming pool and how poorly they do on the running track some of this Aussie success (medal tally is on a par with what it was in 2004) can really be put down to the weather. Such a simple thing gets blamed for a lot of things but for once I think there is some truth in this.

I wish I'd gone to Beijing for the games.

Perhaps London in 2012 :D

Lottery funding has definitely made a difference - no matter what people say I think the Olympics coming here in 2012 will have an even bigger impact. Shame I won't be here to witness it first hand.
