I even managed it myself once. Oh dear. The old grey cells are depleting quicker than I thought... Bear with me.

That photo was 128kb in size. I don't think there is a limit but if it's too big something awful is bound to happen.

As I'm writing this I'm clearly in the 'reply' section, typing in the box as usual. Below this box is a series of smilies (Post Icons) and below them is a 'File Attachments' section.

Using the File Attachment section simply browse and locate the picture you want - check its file size by right clicking on it and opening up 'Properties' at the bottom of the list that's just appeared on your screen.

A word of warning. If you preview your post first you may not see the image and the image address may disappear from the attachment box.

Ok, give it a go!

PS - there is another way involving those code buttons above for anyone wanting to take an image off the web, but it's not easy.

No file attachment section on here for me

Below the smilies are 2 buttons 'add reply' and 'preview post'

either that or I'm looking in the wrong place.

Pete, you're quite right.

I've done some research and it seems that this being a free forum means that it doesn't have all the whistles and flutes. From what I can gather it is only the administrator who can post a photo in the way I discussed. Perhaps a moderator can too? I don't know. It would appear to be a technique imposed to reduce the amount of images appearing on the forum (hence the file storage) and a way of ensuring that no rubbish gets posted - you're expected to send me the image to upload for you. Less than ideal.

However, the key is to use another method. If you have a storage account for photos - Flickr, for example - you can place a photo from your own account onto the forum. That way the forum itself doesn't have to hold the images that would take up valuable memory.

How do you do this?

You use those Code Buttons above that you can see when replying or starting a new topic.

I'm going to try and post something now and work my way through it for you.

Firstly click on the Code Button 'IMG'. If an error occurs have a look at the error bar that has just appeared at the top of the page and 'allow' temporary use of whatever it is. Try again.

Click the IMG button and a small box will appear. Type in the URL of the image you want to upload into the box e.g. http://www.koalakonnection.com.au/images/logos/removals.jpg (in my example here) and then ok it. Suddenly a new piece of text will appear. Now, you can probably just type the IMG bit in square brackets and the slash IMG bit at the end - I dont know. I'll try it at the very end of this post.

Fingers crossed - here the first image:

And that's it... hopefully.

Now for the DIY approach.

Thanks Paul for the lengthy instructions but ok, bit confused. Are you saying that an image I may want to upload, has to be already published on the web?
So, one's on my computer, I'd have to first upload them to an internet site and then use that URL from there?

Cheers

Yes, that's right Judi. I can't see anyway around it. It's to save the board suppliers heaps of storage space. Go make that album then... :)
