On Saturday the 4th of August we're having a get together of people who use this forum or who are currently living in Australia and fancy a day out and meet-up with like minded folks or visiting on hols at the time. (I think that covers everyone...
)This will be the first time such a meet has been organised thru this forum so it's a celebration in a way, but because we're quite a small group I doubt we'll be breaking too many records! Currently showing interest are: Alan Heath and his family (visiting from the UK) Cath, Paul and family (recently arrived in Australia as permanent residents - living on the Sunshine Coast) Dave and Kath (recently arrived in Australia as permanent residents - living on the Gold Coast) Jamie and Kerrie (will probably still be jet-lagged - so may not make it) Angelena, James and Michael (recently arrived in Australia as permanent residents - living on the Sunshine Coast) Di, David, Harry aged 3 and Rory aged 11 (recently arrived in Australia as permanent residents - living on the Gold Coast) Ray (now living on the Gold Coast and responsible for running Gold Coast Arrivals) Paul and Gill (residents of Australia these last 2.5 years) Mel and family cant make it due to prearranged family birthday bash. May be next time Mel. I'll update the above as we head towards the 4th of August. We're planning to use Montville as a meeting place, over-looking the coast from 400m above sea-level. Fantastic views, shops and cafes and it's quite a unique place that everyone is likely to enjoy. I was going to suggest a BBQ but the more I think about it the more I think we could have nice lunch out in one of Montville's fine eateries. How about booking a table at the British Pub in Montville? Great views and a good vibe overlooking the coast. Does this sound good to you? Drop me a PM if you'd like to join us and I'll send you a map and add your details. Suggestions always welcome. Thanks. Paul. |

Jamie & Kerrie have been in touch and confirmed they would like to be at the Montville meet. How does the Montville British pub sound, folks? It's really nice, spacious and very popular. For those of you that don't know much about Montville as a place why not take a look at www.queensland.me.uk and see the chapter about Montville. The picture of the signpost was taken outside the pub. If we arrange for a time to meet at the pub then some can arrive early if they want and just wander around the village - it's a touristy town with lots of unique shops and galleries. It'll take a few hours to wander around - good for building up an appetite! Paul. |

............I agree with Alan. Put a map online, or a full postal address, then the sat-nav can do all the work. How about a lunch time meet up, a bite to eat then a couple of tinnies. I won't be able to have too much of the amber nectar, as I am driving...................... Looking so forward to seeing you all, especially those we have not met before. Me and Kath will arrive in Montville aroud mid morning, think we will have a 2 to 3 hour drive from Upper Coomera, Gold Coast. See you all then. TTFN Aircon and Kath

The pub has a web site so go to: The Penefathings Inn For a map visit www.whereis.com.au and type in street name: Main, and place: Montville, and State: you know that! The postcode wont help as it's 4560, which is the same as most other places up to 10 miles away... Directions. Once in Montville you will find the pub on the lhs as you drive along the main street (there's only one) going UPHILL. It's at the top end of town. Sat nav may throw a wobbly. Not that it will fail, but it may tell you to travel along one of two roads which you would rather not. From Sunshine Coast coast: The first is Philipps Road (Dulong to Flaxton). This is unsealed, pot-holed and very steep. Try not to use it if you value your teeth, windscreen, paintwork and suspension. The second (and most likely) is Razorback Road. This is not advisable either, if it is raining, or if it is dry and you have a nice shiny car. Moderately steep, unsealed and teeth jarring ridges in the road. It passes a place called Hunchy. Don't use it! Nice road - "Palmwoods - Montville Road" - a windy road up hill to Montville. Slowly does it coming up. Your arms will be aching if you've not got power-steering. Turn right at the very top T junction and drive 400 metres into Montville. Pub on lhs at end of town. From Brisbane: Nice road - "Landsborough - Maleny Road" (steep and long to begin, but sealed). Right turn s/posted to Montville well before reaching Maleny so look out for it! (ie onto "Maleny-Montville Road"). Pub on lhs at end of village. From Nambour: "Nambour - Mapleton Road" pass Mapleton and onto Flaxton and onto Montville. Pub on rhs at start of village. NOTE! Police with hidden speed cameras do like it up here and RBT (randon breath tests) are common. Don't aim to park in the pub car park as you'll probably want to move it later and you're a little out of the village. There are plenty of car parking areas, but do be warned, Montville does get extremely busy. Parking times are unregulated - or at least they have been since I've been here. There's a big car park on the lhs just as you come into the village from the Maleny side - ie going up-hill. Probably your best bet. Then walk to the pub passing lots of touristy shops - unless you're late, then drive to the pub and park wherever you can! Paul. |

Dave I hope you're ready for persuading my boys about all the plus points of Australia. I'll probably be there around 1pm Alan. Gill's working in the morning and by the time she gets back home it'll be 12.30 - 12.45. So 1pm - 1.15pm sounds about right. Paul. |

I'm pleased to say a few more have added themselves to the list. Take a look at the first posting, which I've edited a number of times now to include the newbies. Anyone else wanting to join in please send me a PM.I'm going to advise the pub of our imminent arrival - about 12.30 - 1pm Thanks, Paul. |

Folks, Gill and I are really looking forward to meeting you all. I have booked some seats. These will be indoors because... I hope you like sharing... There's a biker run through the village today. Apparently 300 plus bikers will be in town. OMG! And where do you think they're all eating? So, the tranquil village of Montville is going to be turned upside down and we're sharing with 300 plus bikers! Should be fun... Hope you all like Harleys...

Not bad for a first effort!
Personally, if only four of us had turned up it would have been an achievement, but to have a group of 16 was terrific. I think we all agreed, closer to sea-level next time. Sometime in October? Paul. |
