now that i have read more posts i feel that i should expand on who we are.
i am graham (35) self employed electrician, my wife is joanne (34) she also works for our company trying to keep the books straight, we have a daughter ellie (4) going on 24.
we have been out to oz before when ellie was 1 when we went to melbourne. although at the time we were considering emigrating, but to be perfectly honest, melbourne did not do anything for us. this time around i think that we have now agreed that adelaide looks like our prefered choice of destination.
if there is anyone in the adelaide area we are really stumped with what is the best area for us. any tips would be most appreciated.

thanks

graham.

Hi Graham

Welcome to A New Life Down Under!

Adelaide is probably the friendliest, most relaxed capital city on the mainland of Australia. Hobart's supposed to be just as relaxed, to give you an idea. I loved my trip to Adelaide. The "City of Churches" was, without doubt, a favourite of mine and I'm sure that if we had not settled in Queensland we would have been there, right now.

The people are lovely. Only one taxi driver in a whole week and a bit's travelling ruined the karma - but then he was probably having a bad day. The streets are uncrowded, the architecture of the many churches and buildings superb and the surrounding region of the Adelaide Hills makes for an easy trip into the beautiful countryside. To be fair, this is probably where we would have settled, rather than the city, as we love the countryside. What probably put us off was the fierce summer temps and the chilly winters, but it was a close call.

I have a friend who migrated to Adelaide and I don't think he'd rather be anywhere else.

Glenelg, on the coast and to the south of the city, was another hi-point. I have no idea what property prices are at the moment (although Adelaide is still one of the best places to buy in terms of value for money). Have a look at www.hotspotting.com.au to get an idea.

Glenelg really gets busy at a weekend but it would, in my opinion, be another spot to consider. On the beach, good walks and grassy parks too and only a tram ride from the city. Other places to consider are Hahndorf and the surrounding district to the south-east. Did you visit Birdwood? Home to Australia's National Motor Museum. I'd recommend it to any "petrol-head" as a place to visit, but not necessarily to live.

Hey, Birkenhead's close to Port Adelaide... ;) Ok, Ok, Wirral, not Liverpool..., I know...

For more info also try the national site www.southaustralia.com as a guide to the regions.

Paul.

Hiya

It took us about 4 months to get all the stuff together for the TRA - and only 4 weeks for it to come back passed!!

Mind you Chris didn't really rush it! He did his apprenticeship in a shipyard and then worked for them for about another 5 years so 1 reference was enough for the TRA. Had to do a detailed report on all his experience though. About 10 pages with a couple of drawings thrown in. Have you done the TRA yet?

Has taken us about another couple of months to get the rest of the stuff for the visa. We need 3 references for this. Our Agent did references and we checked them and amended bits and they have sent them off to the employers Chris has worked for for the last 7 years.
