New Tax Rates

From 1 July 2007, the 30% threshold will increase from $25,001 to $30,001. If you are earning at least $30,000 you will be $750 a year better off. From 1 July 2008 the 40% threshold will rise from $75,001 to $80,001 and the 45% threshold will rise from $150,001 to $180,001. If you're earning $80,000 you'll pay $500 less tax in the 2008/2009 financial year - if you're on $180,000 you'll save an extra $2,000.

Also the Australian Government has launched a new web site to help people compare private health insurance packages. To make a comparison and help you choose the best package for you and your family please visit the following web site: http://www.privatehealth.gov.au/dynamic/se...byfeatures.aspx

Sometimes it's like you're living here Cath ;) I'm astonished, I really am.

When I came out here all this stuff hit me in the face. We've only just got around to sorting out health insurance and as for the recently announced tax rules, well, I haven't worked out how it's going to affect me yet. I suppose I'll have a better idea once the accountant runs through the figures.

This'll keep you on your toes then. The tax year in Aus is from July 1st to June 30th. Not a lot of people know that!

No, you didn't, did you... ;) ;) ;) :D

I did actually know when the tax year ran :P - for a couple of reasons really.

One being a friend of mine trying to get her 139visa

The other- my rellies always make a big deal of talking about their tax returns.
