Don't get your hopes up too high regarding Plumbing Jobs. Unfortunatly it not as straight forward as you'd expect. Your husband may have to go back to college to get an Aussie qualification and become a Master Plumber before he's allowed to work unsupervised. They put a lot of emphasis on knowing about drainage and sewers here, as I believe its a different system altogether than the U.K.
We had a guest stay at our rental who was a plumber. He had such a run around trying to get the right info off immi and college courses that he finally gave up trying and went to work as a security guard instead.
Don't let me put you off though, just please do as much research as you can before you arrive, therefore taking some pressure off yourselves in the first few weeks.
Good luck

Has anyone had any experience of the on arrival accommodation?

Not sure what to do - do we rent before we go then at least we know where we're based or do we apply for oaa? So many questions - does it get any easier????

Thanks.

Here I am.

Right,I've had no first hand experience of the OAA accommodation but I've seen a few from the outside and read many reports about them.

It is a lucky dip and there are far more applicants than houses.

Some in fairly good areas and some in not so good.

I know a couple that do the SA Meet & Greet service as well - that's free and they do help you to settle into the OAA.
You have to supply your own towels and bed linen.
Interiors are very basic and some seem to need a bit of a clean.
It is BASIC. hence prices.

Some have done OK with it and some have moved out after a couple of nights.

I'm not trying to put you off - just what I know.
I have to be careful as we offer short term accommodation ;)

You can only apply 6 weeks before arrival here and you must have flights booked.

Here is the link to it :)

Will that do Mr Admin???? :D :D

Sorry Tyke. I missed your reply.

That'll do nicely. Very fair and honest of you.

Is it still chilly in SA. Trees up here are showing the first signs of Spring! :)

It's still chilly here - no real heat until October.
The days can be lovely and sunny though - it's the nights that can be really cold. We've had a little frost over the last few nights.

Today is glorious - but I need to go to my mate's farm for some more fire wood.
