| Caravans; can you live in one on your land? | |

just a question about caravans and if the council would let you live in one on your land while the house was being built.if anybody cant help what is the council for the sunshine coast we were thinking it could save us some money thanks rich |

In a nutshell, no you can't. However, all is not lost. If you're managing your own build i.e. you register yourself with the council as an owner-builder you can live on site, as far as I'm aware. There is an interesting "loop hole" though. Buy the land and then have built a big garage. These are called "sheds" in Aus. The shed is kitted out to live in - totally legitimate. Then the house can be built by the builder - you just need to make sure the shed is far enough away from the build site as you will not be allowed on the site itself, despite the fact that you may own the land. Once built, the shed is turned into a proper garage! I think the only catch is that the house build must begin within a certain time frame otherwise the council will get stroppy. This is to prevent you and everyone else simply buying a block of land and never truly building on it. Paul. |
