G'day Folks

I would like to understand just how hot/cold the temperature gets around Brisbane area, how often, how long for, how bareable, Jan to Dec. I enjoy warm/hot weather but I have not experienced Oz weather and when I visit for first time it will be only 5 weeks worth of weather! Do you walk around with your clothes sticking to you much of the time?

G'day Hazel

Australia's a funny place. Divided into 'zones' the temperature can play tricks on you. Head to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and even Perth and the summer temps can be in the forties. Just ask the cricketers! Move upwards towards the equater into the 'sub-tropics' on the east coast and the temperature actually begins to fall, whilst the humidity begins to increase. Brisbane's high are usually in the mid thirties. Generally the summer temps - for about a couple of months are 28 - 34. Some days it's quite humid, other days it isn't. Offices and buildings have air-conditioning, as do cars, and parking is mostly undercover. If it was as bad as some make it sound the shopping streets of Brisbane would be full of dripping individuals flopped on the pavements. In other words it's perfectly fine.

Head further north to Cairns for example, into the tropics, and the humidity does become an issue but again, only during the summer time (rainy season) when temps are regularly in the low to mid thirties and the humidity is 70% and upwards.

That's why we like Brisbane. Sensible temps in the winter and the summer without too much stickyness.

We moved here from North Wales. Yes, it was rather chilly. Over two years on now and we like the pleasant winters and don't fall over in the summer. It doesn't matter what other's say, unless they've experienced the climate change from cool Wales to warm Queensland over a period of time - not just a hot week - you won't be getting the full story.

Take a look at the newsletter page for some more weather info.

The air con at work went haywire yesterday and the temperatures soared in the office... if one more person would have said 'oh you will have to get used to these temperatures for where your going Cath' I would have rung their neck. I politely replied with an effective aircon reply as you can imagine.

Never mind I leave work in about 9weeks so roll with it I suppose. x

I knew this was a risky one to reply to. haha.

I wanted air con when we got back from oz as our house gets too hot in the summer, but too cold in the winter. Really looking forward to it when we get over there. My uncle had a good system.

Is the aircon something you can recommend on when we are over there Dave???

You bet Cath.

there is nothing nicer than stepping inside an Air Conditioned place when it is 35+ outside. I'd go for a reverse cycle system, in other words, it does
heatingas well ascoolingbecause it does get cold, sometimes. And the new modern inverter systems are unbelievably ecconomical....FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

To get OP back on track -

Paul is right and has covered off the zones quite well. It is a 'nice' weather in Brisbane..that was one of the pulls for us.

When we were staying with rellies in NSW and were due to fly up to my grandparents on the sunshine coast, my uncle said we were going on a holiday on a holiday as thats where the aussies tend to go for their hols.
