I can understand why the Aussies like to call on their sporting teams but I can't understand why Ford would want to get in on the act (and it is an act that they hope will make them money) by turning friendly Aussies into piss-takers. Still, the cricket game on their website was a laugh, for a few minutes. You can see their tv ad too, turning you Aussie cricketers in to TonkaPom bashers. Kids won't understand.
It wouldn't make me want to buy a new Ford. All that money spent and they've alienated a huge population of the Australia. When this stuff get's back to the UK it won't do the Ford company any good, will it? I suppose Ford think they'll make more friends than enemies. We'll see. Apparently, when an Aussie cricket player 'tonks' the ball for 4, the word "Tonk" appears on the big screen at the Gabba. But when an English player does it, nothing. All seems a little childish. And as for the tea-time song, heavy tactics around the ground with regard to the Barmy Army and a few other things, it's a sad thing for Brits, both on and off the field, to be watching and listening too. Avoid the crap, watch the cricket and just enjoy, win or lose. "Incite racism" was what many Brits commented after the tea-time song. Even the 'chiefs' at the Gabba admit that somehow that one had slipped through the net and hope that it'll never be repeated at this or any other cricket ground. They were somewhat disappointed by their own blunders. And now many Aussies are thinking it's a poor showing by their own kind. Still, if you're a fan of Aussie cricket you've still got something to smile about. Paul. |

Things seem to have calmed down a bit now. Ford still run their advert but it seems no ones making too much of a deal about it anymore. Probably voting with their wallets... Still no trumpet player, but a big beach ball somehow slipped through security. Imagine the harm you could do with that! It was about 5 foot in diameter, light and 'floaty' and a roar went up from the crowd as it suddenly appeared and got ping-ponged around the crowd - presumably in an attempt to stop security getting their mits on it. They've still banned the Mexican wave... All very sad. Anyone else care to comment? |

Tuesday 5th December. Today will go down as an all-time classic in cricket history. What a match! It's not looking good for Flintoff. He looked worn out, deflated and let's face it, from a winning match position to one of a draw and then to go on to lose the second test match in crumbling style would make you feel like that. Ponting, by comparison, was ever the chirpy self. There's a belief in the Aussie team that sadly the Poms can't create. Role on Perth! 2-0 down and seemingly never wanting the pressure of a cricket match, I don't know how England are going to win. Forget the ashes. It's British Pride that's at stake. P. |

It's all over. Australia have just won the Ashes after losing them just 15 months ago. Warne, predictably got the final wicket, Hussey named man of the series. A 206 run victory to Australia in 2006. Flintoff said that they'd be playing for English pride, something they have a lot of in the English team. Australia said they'd be looking for a clean 5 match sweep... Oh, the pressure...
