G'day everyone.

There's 19 of us now in this forum. That's certainly enough to get the ball rolling with some healthy discussion.

So here's some space to jot down a few details about your position in the migration process and to give us all some background on yourself and your family and where you're hoping to move to.

G'day there!

I've introduced myself previously on the board so I won't bore you with all the details again, but since I last posted here my husband and I have been granted our permanent residency visas. :D

The actual application took us 8 months to the day (we were 138 non MODL) but the whole visa process has taken us 21 months if you include our skills assessments and pulling all the data together.

(note to Top Dog, spot on Batman, how 'bout myself?)

Now we're just hanging around in the US and waiting (patiently the majority of the time... ) for hubby's contract here to end before we move onwards and upwards to beautiful Sydney, some time on '07.

I'd be glad to share my experiences with anyone, and I'm always up for a chat!

Suzi

G'day all

our (brief) story so far...

mrs ballantyne is an aussie by birth and we came out to nundah, brisbane in 2002 to see her long lost dad. i liked nundah and toombul etc! so when we came up to caloundra for the weekend in '02 it was like paradise. bearing in mind we've travelled a bit and been lucky to go to some beaut places e.g. france, spain, portugal, malta, germany, caribbean.

so we decided to 'have a go' at oz. we're lucky cos the visa was easy mrs being oz i came on defacto. we came over in june 05, were planning to live and work around brisbane, took a few days to sort out banks, check out jobs (didnt have one waiting so we're the original 'no house, no job, no car, no furniture' migrants), find-a-rental game. after a week of stalking real estate agents including giving them photocopies of statements, references etc to get our 100 points, they gave us a lovely place in bracken ridge, so we decided to call in at caloundra to reminisce before settling....and cancelled our rental at bracken ridge.

how can you resist living here! the gamble is finding work and somewhere you can afford to live but we're canny with money so have just scraped in, and i was lucky to get my dream job as the uni of the sunshine coast. we're still here over a year later, never been homesick, never missed home - daily glances at the bbc news website reinforces that! we rented then we finally bought a property in pelican waters in jan '06.

mrs b did a bit of work in business development but is now running her own recruitment/hr business, we have a 5 year old at school, and a 2 year old at kindy part-time so all is good. we have made some great friends for life - aussies and expats and have had absolutely no probs as most of these are migrants from elsewhere and we all share being newbies.

this is a great place to live, and i know its not all about sun and beaches but it sure helps! if anyone has questions about the coast, particularly caloundra, and also finding work (thats my job), let me know and we'll see how we can help.

G'day Folks

we are in the process of applying under the 139 visa. Our app went in in June and we are using an agent. Hoping to get a case officer december sometime and visa grant in Jan07. But we are waiting until our mid son finishes his GCSEs in June/July07 before we fly over.

I have a lot of family in oz and in particular on the sunshine coast. Really looking forward to it.

x x :)

G'day,

I am jackie. I recognise some names on here from another forum, G'day Cath!

We have just come back from a 4 week rekkie/validation trip around brisbane and SC. We (me, hubby and 2 kids) really liked the Blackall Range and hope to settle somewhere up there once we have sold our house here in Manchester.

I am a critical care nurse and hubby is an NVQ assessor for the motor trade. Just hope we can get jobs ok.

Look forward to getting to know you all over the coming months.

Hi all,
signed up a while ago but this is my first time in, just wanted to say hi and to say a little bit about myself and the family. We've always had a desire to live in Oz and were priveleged enough to visit (Queensland) for three weeks , that was nearly four years ago (wow, time don't half fly by) anyway just as we thought we loved it and have decided that one day (hopefully) it will be the place we can call home.

I'm about to qualify in three months as a regestered mental health nurse in the UK, we would like to go as soon as we can, that is my wife and three young children. I have lots of questions about the best way to do things, but I'll save them for another thread.

If I spot any questions I can help with then I'll make sure I post a reply (not that I know a great deal)

anyway, all the best to those going through the process and congratualations to all those who have made it,

Take care all, Simon.

Welcome Simon.

Perhaps you'd like to 'get involved the easy way' by taking a peek at our question of the week?

Nice to have you on board.

Paul.
