All,

Just thought you might be interested to know that HiFX has signed an exclusive agreement with Westpac to provide you with the very best OZ and NZ banking services possible.

Westpac is one of the largest banks in Australia and New Zealand with more than 1 in 3 people having an account with them. They have branches and ATMs covering all states and regions.

How will you benefit?

The ability to open bank accounts in Australia or New Zealand quickly and easily before leaving the UK (without having to visit Westpac’s London office or provide certified supporting documentation).
All accounts will be opened within 4 working days – you will get a call from Westpac within 24 hours of your request through HiFX.
Credit cards and even mortgages can be pre-approved before your departure from the UK.
Westpac will provide you with a migrant banking package that includes two accounts – a current account (cheque books, debit cards, internet and telephone banking) and a high interest savings account.
Westpac have also minimised their transaction fees for HiFX clients to $5.00 per month (for both accounts) and waiver of this fee completely if an average monthly balance of $2,500.00 held.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me jonathan.sermon@hifx.co.uk or call us on 01753 859 159 .

Jonathan, that's good news. It increases the market by about 100% as it seems to double what's currently being offered. I don't know how the Commonwealth bank do it, but I hear they are (sorry, were) the only ones that offered this because - I understand that most migration agents send their (CB) stuff out with the migration forms. I figured it was because they were the only bank that had a branch in London? Anyway, good on HiFX for doing this.

You can go to any UK HSBC bank, open a 'Premier' account, and you can open an account in Oz. We did it, and found it a walk in the park.........

Dave

The same with the Co-operative Bank. They have a foreign account, which when you pay in your stirling auto transfers to aus dollars. You can then transfer this over to your account in oz.

We have an HIFX acccount and are looking at the wespac side of things. We just need to get our money over asap really after we land.

On that note - make sure that the funds are transferred free of charge to your account in Oz and you receive a 'live' commercial rate of exchange, not a tourist rate of exchange.

Hope this helps

Jonathon emailed a lovely lady at Westpac who rung me yesterday (cheers Jonathon). She has said we will be able to get a current account, two types of savings accounts, cheque books, cards etc.

A pack is on its way out to us. Then that will be another tick on the list.

I am trying to find out about mortgages and have emailed a few banks, but none have replied. Has anyone got any contacts that would be able to give us an overview of what we are going to be able to borrow mortgagewise???

The 'ticks' are getting less and less Cath!!!!!

Don't think you will get a mortgage quote untill the bank knows how much you are going to be pulling in, from work. (Hate that word!!)

Aircon ;)

I think you're right. Its a pain to say I have to wait until I land before I can apply for jobs in my role.

If anyone hears of anything debt recovery linked please give me a shout.
