As energy efficient as we can afford to make it, Di! We're almost through summer and we've survived without any air-conditioning. We don't have any form of heating either other than a little mobile oil filled electric radiator. That said, being 400 metres above sea-level here does make a difference. It has been tough at times - about three weeks in the summer (day)and for about a month and a bit in the winter (night). We may just look into an air-con package over the winter when the costs come down. The reverse cycle systems also act as heaters and are fairly efficient. My next job is to put insulation on top of the ceilings. 2006 and into 2007 was our test period! We have the roof insulated to reduce the sun's heat energy but any heat in the house caught in winter (low sun through the windows) rises upwards and passes through the ceiling's plasterboard quite quickly. It's lovely and warm in the loft space! After a week of rain our 10,000 gallon water tank has been overflowing for a few days. That should see us through 'til the start of the next rainy season with the odd shower or two in between. Sorry for the delay in sorting out the school material. I've been over-worked these last two weeks and really haven't had much time to finish it. I'll drop you both (you and Sylvi) an email when it's ready. Paul. |
