Croc Posts: 270 Group: Members Member #110 Joined: March 27, 2007	Just as an aside, although it is linked in a way, my main bread earner is from the job I have as a partner in a small UK business. I owned the business outright and put it into partnership prior to coming out to Australia so that I would have work as soon as I arrived. So I now work from home and such is the business that rarely do I have to return to the UK. The hours can be a little odd though... However, it is less than ideal because I'm paid in UK pounds. I'm paid from the profits the business earns and until the annual accounts are officially stamped my dosh resides in a UK bank and only then can I get my muts on it. That's the trouble with being self-employed! So EACH YEAR I have to go through what migrants usually go through just once. In effect, I get paid once a year. There are strange tax implications which both my UK and my Australian accountants smooth out for me after some head scratching. And then it's time to look at the exchange rate and assess the best time for transfer. Bloody ridiculous, but there you go. So no more whinging! And if you must, and you must, think of me or anyone else like me, who has to suffer the ups and downs of the currency exchange markets on an annual basis. It's complete madness! Keep smiling, it'll all be over and you'll never have to worry about it again, unlike yours truly who, at this very moment, has one eye on the exchange rate and the other on his dwindling Aus bank account.
