I would just like to see if anyone still browses the forum from time to time. If you stumble across these old pages please leave a few words.

I've decided to switch to admin approving registration because we've had so many porn bots come on and post crap on the forums. Unfortunate, but apparently necessary.

Just register as usual, and I'll enable your account manually. Hopefully this will cut down on the porn bots.

So, what the frell happened? Traffic is steady but posting is in the toilet. I assume everyone's doing the same thing I am; checking for new posts, seeing none, and bouncing away to surf elsewhere.

We need to do some serious improvements on the web page itself, but that's more a separate problem. How can we keep debate and whatnot going here? Should we perhaps consider shifting focus to more IRL events or something? Let's throw around some ideas here.

Guess what else we reinvented?

As happened with Technocracy, seems we've reinvented another movement as well: Participatory Economics

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parecon

Most of their philosophy seems in line with our economic ideas. Ironic, no?

In any case, it makes for interesting reading, and could gain us some members, too.

The land of the pigs

Posted by Assassin (Trusted) at Jul 5 2007, 01:27 PM. 0 comments

In the far away land of the cannibal pigs, every pig depends on the butcher for food, and submits to him, allows him to have control over its every thought and action, in the hope that it will be fed the best. But every pig knows, on some level, that this submission means that one day, the butcher will choose it...to feed to another pig.

In this way, the pig is a victim of its own greed and its own hunger for blood, allowing the butcher to do what he wishes for the sake of his stomach pains, even at risk of painfully losing its ability to feel them.

No pig ever has the bright idea that if he just decided to eat the fruits of the earth, it could run off into the distance beyond the reach of the butcher, and have nothing to fear. No pig ever even attempts to reconcile with the other pigs, to work past their rivalry for butcher's favour. And the pigs continue to live their pitifully short lives in fear, as each day is washed away with the blood of one of their own.

Lets see who the first to get the metaphor is, shall we :D (inspiration too, but thats easier to spot)

American Cultures Final

Posted by Moneyman2010mn (Member) at Jun 9 2007, 02:44 AM. 9 comments

Well, I took an American Cultures final exam today and I am pleased to say what the essay question was..."Using history that you have learned this year, talk about and support your conclusion based on what you think about the future of America. Will American continue to prosper or will it be an end of a great empire?" :P I wish I could still have my essay but this was the last day of school and I'm not going to get it back so I'll just sum up what I said.

So, when I redesigned part of the homepage I stuck in some placeholder graphics to break up the text. Among them, the hammer/sickle, the Technocracy monad, and the Trek Federation Seal (mainly as a joke.) However, I'm having second thoughts as people may interpret the hammer/sickle one rather too seriously. Thoughts?

I experienced the illegitimacy of Manchester cops

Posted by Assassin (Trusted) at May 25 2007, 09:44 PM. One comment

There were 2 cops in Piccadilly Gardens yesterday taking a trampish-looking dudes details. Me being me, I assumed the worst, I assumed the only "cause" they had to be doing so was that maybe he was begging, maybe he was trying to get his next meal sorted out. So I asked a few questions...which they refused to answer. Strike 1: obstruction of the free flow of information. The only free society is a transparent society. Fair enough if it was to protect his privacy, but I asked him what the problem was and they seemed to take offence at that and wouldn't let him answer.

They took my details too (strike 3: invasion of privacy without good cause) and threatened to arrest me for "showing an unnatural interest in police matters". Strike 4: suppression of free expression.

I eventually got "Jay" (as opposed to Silent Bob, who did nothing but stare through the whole interview) to admit that the reason they had been questioning the other guy was because he had been begging to raise money for a train ticket to go see his critically ill mother in hospital (personally, in his situation I wouldn't have bothered with a ticket, I would have just got on the train, locked myself in the toilet and stayed there till I reached my station so that I'd have no contact with the ticket inspector, but each to his own I suppose). Strike 5: penalising the destitute.

I accomplished 3 significant things:
The tramp guy was able to sneak off while the cops were talking to me, so I saved him from whatever would have awaited him otherwise.
He caught up with me afterwards to thank me for helping, and I gave him a Project Legacy newsletter, so I introduced someone new to Project Legacy.
Everyone who was present in that part of Piccadilly Gardens at the time would have seen 2 cops trying to intimidate the dude who asked questions.

The police accomplished 4 insignificant things:
Took an hour or so out of my life
Left me slightly annoyed
Same again with the other guy
