Apparently, I missed a whole Castlevania game

I am a fish.
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (...SP?)

Basically, it's about a girl who's part of a group called the Order of Ecclesia. This is a group devoted to utilizing magical weapons to eliminate the evils of the world. Shanoa (I think) is on her way to a ritual to give her a powerful weapon, called a glyph, with which to combat dracula. Unfortunately, things are bound to go awry. Somebody else was apparently promised the glyph.

Gameplay: Pretty standard among your DS castlevania games. You run around and use glyphs to assault innocent skeletons who desire to tear you to pieces. ...Yeah. Now, you have 3 things to worry about. Your HP, MP, and Hearts. HP is your life-- But it's also used with a certain 4 glyphs (3 use 66%, one instantly kills you. >_>). MP is used with EVERY glyph. Remember how much of a pain in the ass it was to restore your MP? It's not anymore. It practically fills up instantly as long as you're just running around. Hearts? Those are used for glyph unions.

Now, as soon as you have a glyph, you can equip it as many times as you want. You have two slots-- A left hand and a right hand. If you equip the same weapon to both slots, you could attack with both at half the normal speed by alternating button presses. This leads me into the 3 types of glyphs. Weapon glyphs, Magic glyphs, and Back glyphs. No idea how the last type got its name.

Weapon glyphs are, well... Weapons. There are a variety of types, from swords and rapiers, to throwing knives and bows. Each type has a grand total of 3 you can use at the most. Only one type has one glyph. All the others have 3.

Magic glyphs are your magic, obviously. These are used to unleash, you guessed it, powerful elemental attacks upon your foes. They tend to chew through your MP much faster, though.

Back glyphs? I've only found 2 so far, but they're your support weapons. You basically hold down the R button to activate them. One lets you attract yourself to things called "Magnes" and fling yourself about like a ragdoll. Yeah, I fucking love Back glyphs, despite the screwed up names. The other ones I know of are summons.

Now, this is all well and good, but what the hell is a glyph union? You know how you can equip two glyphs at once? One to each hand? Just hold up and then attack to use both at the same time in the form of a glyph union. Got two swords equipped? You pull out a massive sword and tear everything in front of you a new one. What about a sword and a fire spell? Or maybe your weapon is a rapier now? Yeah, those have combinations too. One disadvantage is the ridiculous cost of using these-- Hearts. These are found in candles as usual, but you can only hold 50. When you get one at a time, and spend 15 at once... You tend to not want to use these precious attacks.

...Especially the one that kills you in one hit. >_>

Er... Anyway...

Now, you can improve your mastery with various methods. If you kill something with, say, a "slash" type glyph (Swords, rapiers, throwing knives), you raise your "slash" skill by 1 point. Very slowly will this make your power with that glyph climb up. In addition, every time you collect a glyph, every mastery level will raise by one. Awesome, huh?

There's a whole crapload of stuff I could also go into, but I figure the basics are enough.

Graphics: Quite a bit darker, but in this day and age, what isn't? The magic looks pretty cool, and the glyph unions, thankfully, don't make a huge production when used. ...As far as I know. I still don't have any union-able magic.

A nice touch is they FINALLY got rid of the traditional death sequence. I mean, if you're not a belmont or Alucard, hovering around while disintegrating into bloody particles just isn't worth it. If you die on the ground, you simply collapse-- Dying in the air results in the same bloody sequence we all love.

Music: I'm playing it on... Let's just say something that's rather soundless. I don't know. If it follows the Castlevania trend, it should be badass.

Random glyph names:

Weapons-
Confodere: The first rapier glyph
Secare: The first sword glyph
Macir: The first hammer glyph
Culter: The first knife glyph

Magic-
Torpor: A glyph that incapacitates opponents

Back-
Magnes: Creates an attractive magnetic field
Fidelis Caries: Summons zombies that fight to the death

So yeah, screwed up names, huh?
