Renders..i guess game renders made them have the name "renders" regardless, they are still stocks.
Render means to make, and i don't see what your making in these taking out background of the picture and whatnot.

This annoys me too.

It kind of works for cut outs of video games, and c4d renders are exactly that, but you do not render a photograph of Carmen Electra. You CROP Carmen Electra out of a photograph.

So we should all be saying "Crop" or "Stock" not "Render" for these things.

I also don't really use photoshop for GFX. That's a job for Illustrator, Flash, and other programs like that. I generally use it for it's intended purpose, improving photographs.

Nah, render has been a term for ages, and used as cut-out. My friend's mum is a graphics designer, you know, like a proper one, and she uses the term render. I always thought of it as render as in to make. Like to "render something useless", but apparently in design, it's been used as cut out for a while.
Sigs do seem very pointless. If you churn out sigs, no one will no you by anything except your name. I mean, I recognize a lot of posters here by their avatars and sigs, like what it should do. Change every month, at most I reckon.
I am trying to go into more fine art and proper design, I don't like graphics as much now, even if I may be the one with the most knowledge on the subject in our year, and drawing is enjoyable, but I NEED TO IMPROVE. I suck out loud.
By the way, if you use PS for photo improvement, then PS elements is supposedly very good.

I call them cut out a lot of times too since a lot of people don't wanna call them stocks I level w/ them sometimes and call it a cutout(like cutout stock ^_^).

I dislike using renders.
It annoys me to see renders on other signatures because the image is not made by you, therefore, it's not even yours.

Which is why none of my stuff now have renders.

I don't even make sigs anymore. They just seem pointless.

What kind of renders are you talking about?
Render as in cut-outs of game characters/Anime or render as in C4d?

I do know that the term is incorrectly used but you never know what someone may be referring to.

Well it's like Kaze had said if you look it up in thedictionary it actually means "to make" which you are not really making anything you just altering something which is why I still prefer to call them stocks or cutouts.

To me a render is a cut out of a stock from its background =D
I used to love using renders, but i found it way more easier to make a bg with the original stock.
