Tutorial: glitter text Difficulty: 5/10 Program: Photoshop/ImageReady 6.0 or higher STEP 1. Select the “glitter” you’d like to use. You can use the one I’m using or you can select/create your own. ![]() When you find the color you want to use, or if you’re using my example, right click SAVE AS and make sure it gets saved as a GIF. STEP 2. Open Photoshop then Jump to Image Ready ![]() (or open Image Ready on its own). Open your just saved glitter file. You should see that is has two/three layers. ![]() STEP 3. Switch back to PS. Now we’re going to define each one of our glitter layers as a pattern. To do this, make sure only one layer is visible at a time. Click on your image and press CTRL A. This selects the entire layer. It should look like this: ![]() STEP 4. Click on Edit then click on Define Pattern. ![]() Name your pattern anything you’d like in the window that pops up. Repeat this step for the other two layers. Now that your Patterns have been defined you can go ahead and close the glitter file. STEP 5. Open a new document in PS. I created one that was 350 pixels by 100 pixels. Now, choose your Text Tool and type in anything you want. I used my screen name. ![]() After your done typing, choose Layer/Rasterize/Type. Copy your type layer two times (CTRL J) so that you have three layers that look exactly the same. STEP 6. Working with your original layer, click on the Magic Wand Tool and select the first letter. In order to select the rest of the text, you need to hold down the shift key as you click on the other letters. (You may have to zoom in on your text so that you can see better.) Once all text is selected go to Edit/Fill. You should see an option that looks like this:![]() Click pattern and you should see the patterns we defined earlier using our glitter. Click on the first of the three you defined. Finally, repeat this step with the other two layers, but make sure each layer is filled with its own pattern/glitter. STEP 7. Jump to Image Ready again. Now, we need to create three frames, but first lets set the first frame to say .11. To do this, click on the part of the frame that says “0” in the picture below. Choose “Other” from the menu and type in .11. Now, click the button outlined in red two times. ![]() STEP 8. Now we need to make sure each frame only has one visible layer. To do this click on frame one and make layer one visible only, BY CLICKING the EYE button at the left of the layer. Having the eye there means the layer/frame is visible, and not having the eye there means the layer is invisible. Click on frame two, make layer two visible only, etc. Now you should be able to click the play button to preview your animation. STEP 9. All that’s left is to save it. Make sure you click File/Save Optimized As and save it as a GIF. These were my settings. ![]() Final product: ![]() Tutorial Copyright .imagination. @ RealEmotion. |
