[Quality Increasement Tutorial]

We all get em'. An image we want to use badly, but can't because it's blurry, lacking in color, etcetera. Well, while getting good stock images is the BEST thing to do, there is a few ways to somewhat-save an otherwise low-quality image.

^--That'll be our example image. Notice how the color's kinda off, and it's a little blurry? Well, it's from Samurai Champloo, we can't have that. :ph43r:

Now, there's several things you can do to increase it's quality.

Firstly, you can use the Unsharp Mask.

Go to Filter->Sharpen->Unsharp Mask.

Play around with all the settings, until you see an increase in the quality of the image, be it shadows or coloring.

Now, from here, there's several things that can be done. But before we go on..is your image too dark? Not to worry.

Go to Adjustment Layers->Brightness/Contrast. Use different layers & put them in lighten blending, lower their opacity until it looks decent, etc..Again, mess with settings until the particular image is correct in lighting for you.

If yer' satisfied with that, duplicate the background layer, and set it to a blending mode & opacity of your choice. For me, I chose Hard Light->54%. Also, you can mess with Levels if you like, though that is optional.

While more could have been done, I left this simple for tutorial's purposes.

Remember: You can make numerous duplicated layers and apply unsharpen filters, different blending modes, opacity's, etc..experiment, until your image is USABLE for a signature, banner, etc.
