Name: Hardrive C. Echidhog Rank: Commander Security Clearance: Level 7 Date: January 28, 20XX Subject: A Death in the Family I have… grave news for everyone, but first I think I should explain what happened from the beginning. Jenet flew us to the Mystic Ruins but we arrived too late to stop Kilamo from using Osaru’s sword. She stood at one of the ancient temples, the meadow before it filled with the followers of her cult, the Council standing near her. As we dropped into the field, she used Osaru’s sword to tear open a rip through time and space allowing, essentially, all hell to be unleashed on the Mystic Ruins. The sword did… something. I’m not sure what happened, but Kilamo vanished and Mizz returned, only to be destroyed by a surge of power from the sword. As her essence fled, Velkyn caught her in a crystal of some sort… a crystal we saw again later on, used on a different person… Ghost, who accompanied us on this mission, fought his way forward with the intention of killing Hannibal. Lucien moved to engage Rave directly. Tom took his place as our aerial support. Dom and the rest of us plowed through the cultists on the ground as best we could and we were making progress until an army moved out of the rip to confront us. These beings, clad in black, chitinous armor, were later identified as Nocturnus. I’ve attached a file on them for quick reference. In addition to the Nocturnus, Shadow Beasts began to emerge from the shadows of the cultists. I don’t think we’ve ever faced these kinds of odds before, but for a while, we did well. Goth plowed through the enemies like a juggernaut, unable to slow down until he crashed into the Nocturnus on the Temple steps. Rave, getting beaten back in a Fury-borne battle with Lucien, received aid in the form of Arisa. Rune – who I did not even know was there until he showed up on the Diamond – Peppered the ground with a barrage of bolts. Tom went to retrieve Osaru’s sword only to engage a female Nocturnus who we may have identified – again, see the file. I arrived to help him, but it was the sword itself that crippled her and forced her back. Even Slang showed up to lend a claw, although I’m not sure who he was really fighting for. We even scored a minor victory in the initial battle. Arisa engaged Lucien, driving his attention away from an exhausted Rave. Makoto, Rune’s sister – another unknown contender – arrived in grand fashion, raising her Black Sun technique and reversing all the magic currently in play on the field. This stalled Lucien’s Great Fury for the moment, and as he was going for a physical blow against Arisa, Rave came up from behind and blew his millennia-old brains out with the enchanted revolver recovered from the Gunslinger, so many months ago. The weapon, known to pierce all known magic and inflict fatal wounds on magical creatures, obliterated whatever spell that was animating Lucien and the dark summoner was reduced to ash. It was not the only heroic thing she did before… The Black Sun did not last for long. Thick, dark clouds emerged from the rip and gravity seemed to slam down upon us, in the same instant destroying Makoto’s spell. Blood-colored eyes opened within the cloud, a giant winged serpent emerged to wrap itself around the Temple, and Velkyn cried out to the heavens, welcoming his mother back to Mobius. Hectapol had arrived. We were exhausted from the battle thus far, but we rallied together for another push to try and stop her and her siblings from gaining ground on our world. Dominus took to the skies to attack Hectapol directly, I ascended to my Hyper form to battle the serpent (Kilamo’s older ‘brother,’ Matzos), Tzal ignited her abilities and started to force her way through the ground forces… everyone was giving it their all. Ghost, Makoto and Rune linked up on the ground to do battle with anything their weapons could strike. Thanks to one of Arisa’s crackers, Rave recovered enough to re-enter the battle, even going so far as to sync herself with her Furies, ascending a form as well. Velkyn moved onto the attack, going after Tzal and finding both the jaguar and Rave in his path. Both my attacks and Dominus’ were useless against our respective foes but I had the added displeasure of fighting a mist-like serpent that was the true form of Kilamo. Matzos assumed a Mobian shape and began barking out orders while the Black Diamond unleashed everything she had at both the ground and the sky. It was a maelstrom of magical energies and physical hazards, as close to utter chaos as we’ve ever been. Makoto even broke out the Black Sun again. Nothing seemed to work. And then Hectapol got annoyed. The Black Sun was crushed once more under the weight of Hectapol’s will. Not only that, a vortex was created in the storm clouds above us (I don’t know how the storm arrived, but I know part of it was due to Hectapol), sucking up everything that wasn’t bolted down. We continued fighting as best as we could as we were drawn into the sky but it was Dominus who managed to save us. Drawing upon his vast power and linking it to the faint connection he had established with Hectapol during an earlier encounter, as well as manipulating my own sword, Enrai, he was able to unleash a surge that temporarily nullified Hectapol’s attack. By now, more serpents had emerged from the rip to interfere with out battles before receiving strange gems from Matzos and moving out. Even Velkyn donned his true form, abandoning the Kilamo flesh mask, and left his battle with Tzal. In the wake of the sudden resumption of gravity, Tom lost consciousness from over-extending himself. I dove to catch him, but I was unaware that Matzos was moving in on me from behind. Rave, however, wasn’t. I caught Tom just as Rave shouldered me out of the way. Matzos grabbed her and, for a moment, seemed about to use her as a hostage against her. He… he then stole something from her. Her soul. He stole it from her and encased it in a ruby quartz, holding it up before me. And then he crushed it. Out of spite from an earlier battle, he crushed it, and… and Rave… …I recovered Tom and Rave’s body. I ordered a full retreat and ordered the use of the Lunar Howl. By the time everyone rendezvous on the Diamond, Jenet unleashed the weapon… only… nothing happen. A foreign signal took over the Diamond and broadcasted the image of a rat caught in a rattrap, just before a live feed of the destruction of Lunar Howl. EXE appeared on the screen. He told us that our time had ended, and then the feed – and his temporary control over the Diamond – cut out. We couldn’t stop Hectapol’s arrival… we lost the Lunar Howl, and we lost… we lost Rave. Everyone needs time to rest, but Hectapol’s strength is growing. Weather patterns are being altered. Dark clouds are spreading across Mobius. For the next few days, I want everyone to get as much rest as they can. Conserve your strength, because this fight isn’t over. Rave’s funeral is being held in Metropolis on Saturday. Attendance isn’t mandatory, but… I would like everyone to attend. She lived a noble life and died a hero. She deserves that much. -- Attachment – The Nocturnus – A clan of Angel Island echidnas that were banished from Mobius thousands of years ago. A small force managed to return some years ago to trouble GUN and Station Square but was pushed back into their dimension by Sonic the Hedgehog, who, along with his friends, were transported as well. The circumstances of their return – some years after their departure – is unknown, although news was brought back that the former leader of the Nocturnus was deposed and replaced by Shade, an echidna more sympathetic towards Mobians. The Nocturnus possess advance technology the likes of which nothing on Mobius can compare to. Their armor is resistant to atmospheric changes, melee weapons and laser technology. They possess force field generators that can repel all forms of physical attack. Their weapons are primarily melee-based and possess laser-edged weapons that can cut through most physical barriers and even some that are energy-based. Their laser weapons are built into their armor and manifest in a form reminiscent of chaos-based techniques. It is theorized that this technology is not laser at all but of a theoretical kind dubbed ‘Hard-Light.’ |
