Subject: Stark Revelations

Our meeting with Ian Stark yesterday went very well, despite the dire news he had for us. We met with the charismatic business man outside his main laboratory near the edge of Metropolis. He showed us inside and to a private lab where he related a curious series of events to us.

Two weeks ago his lab was broken into by two previously loyal technicians and a trio of insect-like mechanoids. Their target was the Chaos Drive, a self-recycling power system that recycled Chaos Energy into a never ending loop – effectively providing an infinite power source. Considering the volatile nature of Chaos energy, the Drive is almost always used in conjunction with a larger power system, which… sorry, got caught up in the technobabble.

The thieves went after the Drive, one of only three models on Tolaria. Stark’s security force were quick to respond and subdue the technicians, destroying two of the mechanoids in the process while the third escaped. The technicians were turned over to the TDF, who discovered implants attached to the back of their necks. During their arrest, they began shouting incoherently about the ‘Brotherhood of EXE.’

Yeah… EXE. Their babbling, combined with the structure of the mechanoids, suggest Jenna’s involvement. I hope I’m mistaken, as the last time we encountered her she was buried beneath thousands of pounds of concrete, metal and snow. If she did survive, then it’s our responsibility to apprehend her. This is personal.

TDF surgeons worked with on-hand technicians to remove the implants. Upon their removal, the technicians behavior changed immediately – in fact, they seemed more like themselves and could not remember anything in the past two months (during which time Stark noticed oddities in their behaviors but thought it to be work-related stress). This suggests that the implants are being used to control civilians, which will make taking down this ‘Brotherhood’ all the more difficult.

Stark will pass the word on to other Chaos Drive developers to keep an eye on their employees. In the meantime, since we are no longer needed for the reconstruction effort, I want everyone to get some rest and resume training routines. Hype and I will begin looking into recent technological thefts while Killane will head up an investigation into possible Brotherhood of Exe activity. We’ll track down Jenna and stop whatever it is she’s planning.

I expect we’ll run into more Brotherhood members under implanted control. We are to subdue them without causing permanent injury. I know this will be a challenge to some of you but these are civilians we’ll likely be fighting. We can’t hurt them any more than is necessary. As for Jenna… when the time comes, she’s to be brought in – no destroying her, no leaving her to be destroyed. We’ll put an end to her menace but we’ll do it in a way that’s long, long overdue.
