Name: Hardrive C. Echidhog Rank: Commander Security Clearance: Level 7 Date: September 28, 20XX Subject: The Hard Goodbye Our trip to Westopolis was a disaster... but I don't think it could have been anything else. We couldn't get there fast enough, we weren't strong enough, but we did everything in our power to save the city. I want to think that if we hadn't been there, things would have been much, much worse. By now I'm sure everyone knows what happened. We got a call early Friday from Rom, who was spending some time in Westopolis. Mizz and Kilamo were in the city and they were going at each other with complete disregard for the city and its inhabitants. We were the only ones she could call. So, naturally, we got our stuff together and went out on the Weatherlight to help the city. We had an impressive team with us - Vector, Goth, Hype, Arisa, Fraise, Ivo, Nearon, CF, Tom, Camitzal, Crystalis, and Loki. By the time we reached Westopolis the city was already a ruin. The entire city was smoking and crumbling, pierce by dozens of crystalized chaos obelisks. We arrived in time to see a skyscraper go down and my father guided the Weatherlight into the area. All this devastation was caused by one fight. We had to find Mizz and Kilamo and stop them. We geared up and dropped onto the ground in the midst of a great dust cloud. The Weatherlight was then attacked by a magical blast that fried its shields and forced it to back off so that they could make repairs. Before we could track down whoever it was that attacked us the street beneath us buckled and twisted, forcing us to scatter. In the wake of the damage a blur flew threw the sky and crashed through a nearby school, prompting investigation. Because of the ambient Chaos in the air, our comms and tracking devices were spotty - at best - so we split into groups. I took a small team with me to investigate the school while another went looking for Mizz and Kilamo. CF discovered a battered Rom, who filled us in with her situation - she had been tracking the fight ever since it started but she hadn't been able to stop them by herself. CF and Rom hooked up with the others while my team discovered the object that had been hurtled into the school in a community gymnasium across the street. Buried beneath a pile of rubble was Mizz. We were able to unearth her but she barely recognized us - or if she did, she didn't care about us. She stuck around only long enough to urge us to turn around and go back before she Chaos Controlled away. In the distance, the other team of Raiders came upon Kilamo. They engaged her in the hopes of weakening her and distracting her long enough for the only plan we had at the time to go into effect - Dominus was going to try and absorb her into the Soulstaff. If we killed her, we risked unleashing her full powers and she proved to have a high resiliency to being knocked out, so we had very few options. Word of the battle reached my team and we took off to back them up. We were winning out fight against Kilamo but as my team joined up with Vector and the others she unleashed her signature scream, abruptly changing the tide of battle. Goth and Vector – or rather, Dominus – charged on regardless, but before they could strike, Mizz reappeared and unleashed a Chaos Inferno, which nearly took us out in addition to Kilamo. Most of us managed to escape with a few cuts and bruises, but Goth took the brunt of the attack and Dominus was driven off. Kilamo emerged from the attack bloody and broken but still strong enough to continue the fight. At this point she claimed to be something a few of us were beginning to suspect. She said she was immortal. And after watching her take the punishment that she had, I was starting to believe her. Mizz drove her off deeper into the city and we fell back to a ruined café to take stock of the situation. The Weatherlight caught up with us and we were able to cycle out a few Raiders and bring in a few others. We also changed out some equipment and I started fleshing out an unsavory secondary plan that required the use of the Water Stone. Once we were ready, we started off – only to be stopped by Slang. I sent the others ahead and remained with Loki to hear what he had to say. Not surprisingly, he didn’t say much but he essentially confirmed that he didn’t care about anyone except the two combatants, attempting to mask his selfishness by claiming that the only way to stop Kilamo was to let Mizz handle her. He scoffed at our plan but said at least one helpful thing before I went Hyper to join the others – he said that there was only one body capable of holding Kilamo. Meanwhile, the team I sent ahead followed the sounds of destruction and discovered that Mizz had transformed into her true form – a great phoenix made of chaos energy. Hype and Dominus took the lead and the two teams split up to contain both combatants. Tzal managed to erect a pocket dimension around Kilamo while Tom was able to put one up around Mizz. Hype drove Mizz to the ground with an entrophic blast while Tzal and Crys kept Kilamo occupied, giving Dominus time to charge an attack. I arrived and tried to talk to Mizz and she… tried to eat me. With no other choice, I began a barrage of spirit blasts to keep her from trying to rejoin Kilamo with Tom using his White Fire abilities, amplified by the Fire Stone he carried, to protect me. Even when Mizz took to the air we were able to keep enough of her attention diverted to provide the others with the time they needed. Even after a Chaos Blast that sapped most of our power reserves, we kept holding her back. Meanwhile, Loki joined the fight to contain Kilamo and Dominus unleashed his attack. Loki got the others out of there just as the Final Parabola was launched – a massive energy attack fifteen city blocks in length. It destroyed the barrier field on its first go-around but missed Kilamo both times it struck (not surprising, since what Dominus did was the equivalent of going after a fly with a bazooka). It distracted Kilamo enough for him to sneak up on her and impale her on his sword, though. That was it. We thought we won. The Soulstaff would absorb Kilamo and we’d finally put an end to this madness. But then something happened. Kilamo… exploded. Dominus was forced away and blown into unconsciousness. When the dust settled, Kilamo was still there – fully healed and pissed off. We failed. Which meant we had to switch to Plan B. I engaged Mizz in an aerial dogfight that drove her to the street and temporarily stunned her. Tzal fended off Kilamo as she went after Dominus and allowed me to sneak up behind and plant the Water Stone to the sword wound in her abdomen. Water is for Change, Imbrium had told us, and earlier, in a flash of insight given to me by the Wind Stone (“Wind is for Knowledge” – Kaios), I understood what was meant. A person’s spirit is fluid. It can be manipulated, drained, or, as has been proven, transferred. The stone absorbed Kilamo’s essence from the physical body she inhabited and held it within its core. It was not a seal – the Water Stone cannot hold anyone for that long. Then, using up the remaining Spiritual Energy I had available in my Hyper form, I went to Mizz and pressed the stone against her. Like Slang said – there was only one body capable of holding Kilamo. Mizz reverted to normal and lost consciousness. I kept her in contact with the stone as the Weatherlight picked us up, knowing the Stone would keep Mizz dominant in case Kilamo woke up. We returned to the island and placed her into containment until she gets used to sharing a body again. There may be some of you who are wondering why I avoided using the Stone in the first place if I really knew about it beforehand. Honestly, I wanted to destroy Kilamo, not force her onto one of my longest friends. It was dangerous, but if it succeeded we would have eliminated a major threat to Tolaria. Others may wonder why we left Kilamo’s body in Westopolis. You guys fought hard and deserve to know. Quite simply, I’m using Kilamo as a scapegoat. We left no trace of our presence or of Mizz’s involvement, so when G.U.N. finds the body of one of Mobius’ greatest threats, they’ll assume she was responsible. I’m not going to bust their bubble. One last thing. I know some of you are resentful of Mizz right now, considering what she did. Keep in mind when Kilamo is involved she is little more than a puppet controlled by the Master Emerald. It was the Master Emerald that destroyed Westopolis – not Mizz. Anyway… enjoy your rest, everyone. You all deserve it. I’m going to request that Kazanachou send some support in the restoration of Westopolis – if such a thing is even possible – and catch some sleep myself. |
