Subject: Fire and Brimstone...

Um… Okay, the commander’s kind of… out of it… right now and everyone’s still recovering, so Killane asked me to put up this report.

Last night… I don’t even know where to begin, really. Jenet piloted the Black Diamond up to the Elemental Plain and dropped us off at the base of a tower made of obsidian. The team was pretty sizeable and under normal circumstances I don’t think anyone would have messed with us. I mean, there was me, Hardrive, Vector, Goth, Hype, Mizz, Arisa, Fraise, Tom, Nearon, and CF. A small army unto ourselves. I had even merged with my Furies prior to battle just to make sure we had an edge over Jonas… and Lucien.

Nearon led the way into the tower, which was hollow except for a spiral staircase that led up to the top floor. We climbed up and a few of us went through a door into what looked to me the lair of an actual mad scientists – tables with alchemical tools were everywhere and the walls were lined with electronic equipment. On the far side of the room there was even a huge… thing… flanked by giant electrical conductors. In the center of the machine was a giant glass ball that held some kind of bubbling black liquid stuff… those of us with magical senses could tell that whatever it was, it was just… wrong.

Anyways, the group split up with some of the smaller, stealthier Raiders sneaking into the room to ambush Jonas, who puttered about the machine, making adjustments. Naturally, our ambush was discovered by Lucien, who was perched in an alcove above the door like a really ugly, undead gargoyle. Jonas welcomed us while the Abomination jumped to the floor. That was when Goth literally busted in and I, in an admittedly overzealous and idiotic move, threw myself at Lucien – yeah, I know, but that thing just sets me off in all the worst ways. And so I was the one who started the battle…

Arisa, Nearon and Goth quickly jumped to my aid while Hardrive, Tom, CF and Mizz tackled Jonas (Hype, Fraise and Vector held back to see how things were going). The truth about Akuma’s ring came out as Hardrive quizzed Jonas – it turns out that Morgan was supposed to trade it to him to fulfill a bargain and he made a move for it to provoke us into giving it to Morgan. The plan backfired when Morgan found out and revealed his location before he was ready for us to stop by. He didn’t seem to be too phased by it, though, as he quickly attacked Hardrive, dodging an attack from CF and charging through Tom’s flames (when did he develop fire abilities?) to plunge his hand into the commander’s chest.

Yeah… it was a magic move or something because Hardrive was fine. Still weird to see, though.

Meanwhile, Lucien caught me after my charge and tossed me aside before immediately dodging Arisa’s and Goth’s magic attacks and counterattacking by summoning stone spikes from the floor. Nearon got behind him and I used Cirrus to toss me up into the air, summoning the strength of Terra in preparation of my next attack. Goth dodged the spikes and took out the skylight with an attack that had an effect later on in the battle. Arisa drove the spikes right back at Lucien and forced him into unleashing a barrier of fire that expanded in all directions.

Arisa countered it with a spray of water from her staff before sending a bunch of mud, rocks and roots (summoned from hammerspace or its magical elemental equivalent) at him. Nearon used his staff to create a whirlwind that dispelled the flames while I did a similar technique as I dropped down from above. Hype, who was nearby, used some liquidy stuff to protect himself from the flames.

By now, Vector had joined the fray and announced his intentions by unleashing a blast of energy at Lucien. Now, I just have to say, we rocked Lucien’s clock right then and there. He defended himself against both mine and Vector’s attacks but got a face full of mud, blinding him to Nearon’s decapitating attack (which, unfortunately, didn’t sever his head) and my own fury-strong uppercut, which sent him reeling into a wall.

Meanwhile, Hype went after Jonas, driving him off of Hardrive. Mizz used some kind of chaos-kinesis similar to HD’s spirit-kinesis and hurled him across the room and into a wall. In his hand, pried from the commander’s body, was a mass of black energy similar to the stuff boiling in the machine. Tom summoned a wall of flame to keep him from his machine while Hype went for a follow-up attack which… never landed.

This was when Goth’s earlier ‘attack’ paid off. Hundreds of Pure sprites were called into tower, all gathering around Fraise. I think she was just as surprised at that as everyone else who wasn’t fighting was.

See, Lucien had recovered by this time and his Great Fury manifested outside the tower, in the rain. It drove a fist through the air and sent spikes towards Arisa, Nearon and myself, forcing us to take cover. Vector flew out to engage the Fury, managing to give it a flesh wound (magic sword, anyone?) before being driven into the air by a geyser of water. The explosion of debris and shrapnel sent all of us reeling, really, and gave Jonas a moment to call for Lucien’s aid. As though Lucien hadn’t demonstrated enough of his abilities that night, he summoned pillars of stone to drive us back and at the same time pulled a frickin’ bolt of lightning from the sky to super-charge Jonas’ machine. At the height of the chaos, Jonas hurled the ball of power he had wrenched from Hardrive at the glass sphere holding the mass of black energy.

The glass broke and the shockwave that emerged from it bowled us over and having a secondary effect against the Pure sprites: they were corrupted, and several of them were banished entirely. The energy floated out and snagged Jonas, pumping itself into him and surrounding him with vapors that his body seemed to absorb. We had seen hints of a badly disfigured body beneath the bandages before this but the energy seemed to heal him somehow.

At the same time, Nearon had recovered and went after Lucien, slashing and stabbing him with his weapon, which has some strange magical effects… it apparently hurt Lucien and he went down, but not before he hurled Nearon into a wall and knocked him out.

Outside, Vector was dueling with the Fury, divebombing it despite an inferno that was reaching up to meet him. He was able to force his way through it and hit the thing with enough force to drive it off of the tower and into the ground, dispersing it. He hadn’t counted on the thing breaking parts of the tower off with it, though, and the damage compromised the building’s integrity something fierce.

As the tower shivered and rain pelted us from the destroyed laboratory, Jonas stood amidst towering flames and pulled the bandages from his face, finally revealing his true identity to everyone. Let me just say that my tongue-in-cheek report of what happened is due to the fact that I’m scared to hell of what happened and this is my way of coping. See, I think we all underestimated what Jonas really was. He was much more than any of us gave him credit for.

He was Hannibal Darkholme.

What happened next was a blur of chaos, fear and desperation. I know Hardrive attacked him but he was stalled in his tracks. Tom tried to attack him with the same result. With the building coming down around us, we were forced to run, picking up and carrying our wounded and unconscious – Mizz and Nearon – and dragging along those in shock – Hardrive – in our rush to escape before the place went down. And it did go down, just as we reached the Black Diamond.

Lucien had vanished prior to the destruction of the tower and Hannibal was last seen inside as it went down, but I don’t think any of us really believes that they’re dead. Lucien’s a virtual demigod and Hannibal… I… Hardrive killed him. We know this. The commander knows this. And the bastard found a way back. He died, and he found a way back.

I don’t know what’s going on, but… but things have just gotten very, very bad.

What’s going to happen now?
