Subject: Tolarian Rings = Trouble

Earlier today a group consisting of Cameron, Tom, Camitzal, Nearon, Jenet, Drake, Jenni, CF and myself dropped by Cloak's church to inform him of the situation with Morgan. We arrived earlier and were able to catch the last of his sermon. It was your fairly run-of-the-mill stuff but I was able to see Cloak in his element, preaching his true beliefs. I'm not sure if I can trust him just yet but he proved to be a willing ally today.

After most of the people had left the church, Cloak came to speak with us. He told us that the ring Morgan was after was called Akuma's Ring, the mate to Tentai's Ring, the one he always wore. The rings channel the power of Darkness and Light, respectively, based on how much of a person's soul is influenced by one or the other. With Akuma's Ring, Morgan could increase her already formidable strength (I'm taking Cloak's word on that, since we don't know the true extent of her power). However, the fact that she promised not to use it intrigued him as much as it did us.

We started tossing theories around and the only one we thought made sense was that Morgan was hoping to trade the ring to someone else. CF thought she might give it to Jonas, and while I'm inclined to agree, I wonder why she would warn us of Jonas' if she's intending to make him stronger. It was something none of us could figure out.

Jonas' name was moved to the bottom of our list of suspects, however, when Lucien came calling. He was looking for - you guessed it - Akuma's ring. Cloak sent his purifiers inside and rescued a blind man who was nearly caught in the crossfire while CF, Nearon, Jenet, Jenni and myself went out into the rain to face the summoner.

Luck wasn't on our side. Lucien was as strong as ever and shrugged off our assaults left and right. He kicked, stomped and backhanded his way through us, even going so far as to disarm CF and attempt to skewer Jenet with CF's halberd. On a disturbing note, CF managed to tear the collar of Lucien's mantle from his muzzle, revealing to everyone what Arisa saw in our first encounter - his lower jaw was missing. Lucien truly was the walking undead.

Nearon came up with a plan and we focused our assaults on the Great Fury, letting Lucien move towards the church where Nearon planned to get the literal drop on him. The Fury took gunshots, fireballs and freezing magic without slowing down. To our surprise, though, we actually hurt the thing after I gained control of the halberd Lucien had thrown and directed it back into the Fury's chest. It staggered and fell backwards before curling into a ball of sorts, stopping the rain from falling all around us and drawing all the water into itself. That was our first clue that something bad was going to happen.

Meanwhile, Nearon dropped onto Lucien just as we struck the Fury. Lucien apparently noticed the Fury's pain and turned, allowing him to catch sight of Nearon and narrowly dodging out of the way. CF and Nearon then both pressed their attacks, forcing him back and turning the tide of battle into our favor. CF even took advantage of both Lucien's and the Fury's situations to pick up his halberd and repare a strike against the Spirit.

And that was when the Fury exploded.

It unleashed all of the water it had gathered and sent it outwards in a maelstrom of raindrop-thin needles that even pierced the stone walls of the church. We would have been skewered had it not been for Cloak, who used his power to protect us with Light-magic auras. Preoccupied as we were by the explosion, Lucien managed to escape.

I'm not too concerned, though. If anything, the encounter taught us that we can fight him, that his Fury can be hurt. CF's halberd, a gift from Cain, is now our greatest weapon against the summoner.

We reentered the church and found everyone fine and curious as to what the hall had been happening outside. We went over our options one last time but decided that the only thing we can do is give Morgan the ring and deal with the consequences.

I'm thinking that we don't give her the chance to hold onto it, though. I don't like having an artifact with that much potential power in the hands of someone who may very well be our enemy. To that extent, I'd like anyone coming with me to Morgan's place to prepare for a battle. If we can't come up with a good plan by the time her offer expires, then we'll take back the ring by force.
