The POW logo flashes across the screen, followed by the Clark’s Sports Net Logo. The world EXCLUSIVE appears below it. The image fades in on a up-scale night club in Uptown Charlotte, just a few miles away from the ‘Uptown’ Arena where Access Denied is being held. Inside the place is packed, a POW camera crew is walking through the crowd recording some of the action. To the side a few body guards are standing outside of a private room. Rodnie Steel walks over and enters the room, past his so called body guards who are much smaller than he is. Already inside the room, Scott Wylde sits with a notepad in front of him. Steel sits down as Wylde extends his hand. Steel ignores his request, and Scott slowly removes his hand and looks down at his paperwork. Scott Wylde: Good evening Ladies and Gentleman, and welcome to a Clark’s Sports Net exclusive! I’m your host Scott Wylde, sitting here today beside one of the number one contenders to the POW World Heavyweight championship, and of course the man that will be participating in the Triple Threat Main Event for the very same here in Charlotte.. Rodnie Steel. Welcome Rodnie. Rodnie Steel: I’d just like to go on record and say I’m getting paid extra for this, and I’m in no way volunteering my time for this. Scott Wylde: Right… well, Let’s start off talking about the opportunity you have at Access Denied. You face Brod and the POW World Heavyweight Champion Vision in the main event, a triple threat match. Rodnie Steel: I think that’s been established Scott. I mean week in and week out the three of us have beat the hell out of each other. What other choice does Damien Clark have but to suck every bit of money he can out of us? Do you think it’ll be the last of them? I’d put money on Clark booking a rematch of some sort on the following Chronicles just to stir the pot or to get a little more advertising revenue on the side. You know how the man works. Hell we’re on his station right now. I’m sure in a minute we’ll go to a commercial about Inside-Out Burger, then follow it up with weightwatchers. He’s going to Sell-Out as long as he’s breathing. Scott Wylde: Strong words for the man that runs this station, and signs your paychecks too I might add. Rodnie Steel: I learned very quickly that my overwhelming wrestling ability wasn’t going to get me places here. What Damien Clark values most isn’t ability. It isn’t entertainment value or skill either. It’s selling power. I don’t have to sit back and be the model citizen in POW. In fact, being the model citizen got me nowhere. For almost four years I sat back and won title after title, and where did it get me? Some midcard job fest against the lowest of lows. Why? Because I didn’t do anything shocking that made Damien Clark any money. Meanwhile a man who cheats his way to the top and has no respect for his peers makes it to the Main event and becomes World Heavyweight Champion. Scott Wylde: Sebastian Roach? Rodnie Steel: No not Sebastian Roach. What are you high? BROD! Have I not been redundant enough for you? For months now I’ve been talking about the one thing that is wrong with POW, and you say Sebastian Roach? What’s the ‘mather with you?.. Compare the stats Scott. Over Three years without being pinned or submitted. The longest Undefeated streak that you or POW will EVER see! Vs. the man who I carried through our Tag Team title reign. I had to save his ass on a nightly basis. It was only till I had enough of his bullshit and left that he lost the titles. So who was the weak link their Scott? And look how he’s rewarded. So naturally I wasn’t going to play Mr. Nice Guy anymore. I took action, and guess what? It sure as hell worked. Scott Wylde: Last month at No Limits, you faced Brod one on one for the right of the number one contendorship to the POW World title, but were pinned, ending your streak in a quick finish by Brod after a brutal match… Rodnie Steel: And? Scott Wylde: well… Are you at all worried that this event will repeat itself at Access Denied? Rodnie Steel: It’s becoming such a standard hear in POW that every month I put my body on the line for some reason, and some big match. Last month it was against Brod one on one. And if you remember correctly we both gave in everything we had in that match. It happened to be that Brod came out victorious. But what you’re forgetting Scott is this. I know what it takes to beat Brod now. I know how close I was to lying him down for good. So at Access Denied, I’ll be even closer. Scott Wylde: What about Vision, you too don’t have a long history… Rodnie Steel: It’s not so much that Vision is a casualty of War, but there is some truth to the matter. Vision has what I want. He is the World Heavyweight champion, and He has what I haven’t yet had. Anyone that tells you he doesn’t want the World title is either a liar or a fool. Right now there are only two people standing in my way from the ultimate prize. The man standing in everyone’s way, BROD and the World champion Vision. And at Access Denied, I’ll do whatever it takes to accomplish my ultimate goal. Don’t expect a clean fight, and don’t expect a glorious victory. Whoever comes out on top will be bloody, battered and beaten. No doubts about it. Scott Wylde: Last question. Recently rumors have been circulating that you were admitted to the hospital after you match with Bishop at Chronicles. Furthermore they say that you did in fact pass out when Bishop’s shoulders were pinned under your weight and that you lost the match in reality. Rodnie Steel: I’m not sure where you get your information from Scott, but I at no time lost consciousness. The referee’s oversight in seeing me clearly pinning Bishop in the ring is despicable. A man of his power should be responsible of his actions. Scott Wylde: Are you saying you haven’t had any injuries or anything from the match then? Rodnie Steel: Last time I checked your were Scott Wylde M.D. so mind your own damn business. I pinned Bishop, and that’s what went down in the record books. Whether or not a idiot referee failed to check for the most important part of a wrestling match is irrelevant to the outcome. Justice was served, and the better man won! Scott Wylde: Are you cleared to Wrestle? Rodnie gets up and knocks over the table aside of the couch he’s sitting on. He turns back to Scott… Rodnie Steel: I’m finished. Scott Wylde: It was just a question. Rodnie Steel: Well than here’s your answer. I don’t give a damn whether I’m cleared or not to wrestle. Access Denied begins my time, and I’m not going to let ANYTHING get in my way! ANYTHING! Steel steps through the door where his ‘body guards’ are still standing he exits the room, leaving Scott sitting in the chair as the screen fades back out to the POW and CSN logos. |

** Days later at the Bobcat's Arena we see Brod, uncharacteristically early, preparing his locker for the Access Denied PPV. Peturbed by this event Scott Wyld, arriving also takes the opportunity to have a chat with one of the challengers for the POW World Heavyweight Title... ** Scott: Brod, can I grab a moment of your time? (Brod looks around, not expecting anyone else around, suddenly and settles once he sees the diminutive Wyld standing in front of him.) Brod: Oh... yeah sure. I was about to take a walk though. (Scott drops his things...) Scott: Let's go then... (Brod and Scott head off down the halls of the arena when Scott passes a question...) Scott: So walking down these aisles are you thinking what it would be like to walk back past these very walls once again holding the World Championship? Brod: Actually Scott walking through these aisles as a professional athlete would be a privelege all by itself. Holding the title at the same time would be icing on an already large cake! I wanted to come here and familiarise myself with the surroundings early and build a sense of anticipation within myself for the event. Sure I've had title shots in the past and some on grander stages but there comes a time in every athletes career when they must do a little soul searching and realise his place in this industry. Whether you're starting out or on top of the card you still have to take a backward step sometimes and look at what you've done as opposed to what you want to acheive in the future. Scott: So you have done some of this soul searching? Brod: Generally 5 hour car rides will allow that kind of thought process. I like to think that I've been in this business long enough and done enough miles on these roads to do enough soul searching to last a lifetime. What I've done in this business would have been a pipe dream 7 years ago when I was an opening card fodder for the top brass in RMW. I was never a World Champion before I reached POW and I like to think of my career as a slow build to the ultimate climax. But it's on the way back down that you start to meet people on the way up to where you've just been. I was always the up and comer and now my career has turned to where before I was hunting to becoming the hunted. Upstarts like Rodnie Steel that feel the need to go after the proven stars to prove themselves and to be honest when you go all the way back to Chronicles 52 and my targets were the top dogs Reese and Golgotha. Scott: So it's like a natural progression within the business? Brod: Depends on the individual. Rodnie Steel has the talent and the charisma to be remembered as one of the all time greats and as much as it pains me to say it he's got the smarts and willpower to go with it. If you wanted an example of how to climb to the top of the ladder real quick then you take his example. He's got his spot through good timing and picking his targets wisely. The natural progression through to the World Title is to go via the Gladiator Title and he did that quicker than anyone has. The only problem he has is that he's gone by the wayside in the thinking department! He thinks the path to the World Title and the riches that come with it is by desposing of me... in his quest toward the title he's dragged me into it and made things a whole lot harder for himself and to me that's just boneheaded. Scott: So rather than face the prospect of defeating the champion singlehandedly, which is no mean feat by itself he has to take on a former champion reducing his odds drastically. That has been spoken about in wrestling circles as doublecrossing yourself... (Brod and Scott then enter the 'Gorilla' position behind the curtain...) Brod: When you're on top of your game you can take all before you. Unfortunately Rodnie Steel has taken a backward step but this time it's in a negative sense. This step has been forced upon him by his peers and his opposition and as far as I can see this helps only to make him far more dissolutioned than before! He's more concerned about the money he makes and the politics when it's not those people he has to impress. The Rodnie Steel shirts still sell for sure but not as much as you see the Brod and Vision shirts fly off the racks! (They push through the curtain where they see the POW road crew construct the set for Access Denied...) Brod: It's the people who take their hard earned money and park their backsides on those seats are the ones he ought to be convincing that he's the real deal. The only person responsible for Rodnie Steel's success thus far has been the person in the ring with him at the time and looking over that fact before calling them the 'big problem' should almost be considered career suicide and it's that blatant fact that makes Rodnie Steel the pretender and never the contender. It's the only reason that he'll never be World Champion while the name Brod is on the marquee with him and it's the only reason that the people that matter will never take him seriously again. It all started at No Limits and he's continued it from there... Scott: Continued what? Brod: The Self-Destruction of Rodnie Steel... ** Brod smiles and turns back through the curtain while Scott is left pondering what Brod has just said... ** |
