Haha, I don't think you sound flame-y or rant-y at all. You make valid points and I did word one part of my post wrong---I didn't mean that all the girls should abandon their hopes, dreams, and love to serve Usagi, just that they, especially Minako, FEEL like they should. In the manga, Rei and Minako said that they would never seek love because Usagi was their priority, and like you, I don't like or agree with that mindset. First of all, Usagi would never allow her friends to make that kind of sacrifice for her. Second of all, they're bright enough to realize that they too deserve to be happy.

As far as Minako and her dream to become an idol, I don't really mean to say she'll never try to follow her dream, it's just that when her life as Sailor V starts and during the duration of the first story arc, well, Minako is heavily occupied in my story which of course can't really be understood until you play the game. When the group first meets her she doesn't have time to think about herself---things are pretty bad and a lot is at stake. Every now and again she may stop for a moment and think about achieving her dream, but Minako places a LOT of weight on herself as far as her mission goes and it isn't until things slow down after the first story arc that she really has a moment to think about herself. If that makes sense. The enemies in this game are a lot more horrifying and dangerous than in any other version of Sailor Moon. The Sailor Soldiers face a lot of death and tragedy and the first story arc is probably one of their hardest trials---they're all new to the whole superhero thing and they have to learn to bear their crosses.

A lot of the things you say about Minako in her climb to becoming an idol ring more true for my original character Rin who is desperately trying to become an idol in the first story arc. I can't say much without giving a lot away. XD

I agree with you on your points about Makoto, I just make a distinction between Makoto's real self, and what she allows others to see of herself. In reality she is a girly sweetheart, but she doesn't let anyone see that side of her. She hides her true colors to survive and to seem strong. Like you said, it's not until she meets the other Sailor Soldiers that she realizes she can be herself and be accepted for that.

Oky, yeah, that makes more sense. See, when you were asking for "realistic problem development" I wasn't limitting the ideas to only the first story arc, but rather to the character in general and who would have what problems in life being the character that they are. So yeah, basically it was a case of "Minako wants to be an idol, what are common issues that aspiring idols face?" and I thought about how they have to jump through hoops and change just about everything they are just to get their one shot at the big times. So going with that and common teenager problems in focusing on appearance to determine everything, I figured a likely problem would be a weight issue. Then I just came up with how to slant evidence to support it.

But, if you already have a character facing those issues, then it would be redundant to re-visit them with V-chan. The better option would be to have a point at the end of the arc some time in which Minako's ideals become known to Usagi and she has to go through a period of convincing Minako (and Rei, too, maybe. If Rei isn't simply asexual and using being duty-bound as her excuse not to get into a romance...) that it isn't the way you should live and how it won't make Usagi (or anyone else) happy if they do that. And then from there is where they learn how important it is to have something to hold on to as the better future that they're aiming for.

But don't forget that not everyone's real problem should be when they first arive. Perhaps for one of the girls that would be the case, and for another one or two of them they would show the beginings of their problem but not the real thing until a later date. It would also be realistic that they would go through multiple problems at different stages in the stroy's development that result in different character building moments (perhaps chances to awaken special powers...) so in that case I suppose the real question you ought to be asking is for as many ideas as you can get so that you can go through and find which ones fit for which characters in the story that you're wanting to write.

Umm... thanks... I think... Wait, you're not going to go all weird and stalkerish on me, are you?

And back to Chains, Naru-chan should totally go through this thing where she watches Usagi drift away from herself and struggles with what it is to loose a bestfriend. Not that she'd get weirdly creepily jealous or anything, but she would notice that the Senshi have this unbelievably strong bond, and that they are keeping something from her, and so would end up feeling left out and unwanted. Lonely, you know? She'dtry to fit in and get along with the others, and its not like she'd dislike any of them or vice versa, but not being a senshi and not knowing that they are the senshi would really put a huge chasim in the relationship. Then if she ever was to find out, she might be more understanding of the whole thing and supportive and feel more included because they trust her with this information, but at the same time she's still not out there risking her life with them, nor did she have the previous life connections to them that they have to each other, and so the bond would never be as strong and there would still be the residual feeling of "I don't belong here with these people, I'm just in the way" etc.

UsagiLaugh And if you're going to play at all with the Umano (or however his name is spelled) crush on Usagi in the early part of the series, you could play on Usagi's discomfort about a guy liking her that she's not at all interested in returning the feelings of. He's a nice enough guy and she doesn't want to be mean to him, but she very deffinately doesn't want the relationship to go any further than friend, if that. Maybe only aquantince and classmate and someone she can beg homework answers off of.

TuxedoKamenFly Basically the only thing I can think of for Mamoru is a) that he's anti-social due to his tough upbringing (gone over in somewhat similar depths with Mako-chan already) and b) that he's so much older than Usagi so he'd be ready for things in life that she's not. I don't know if you're willing to get into sexual tension in the game or not, but basically, he'd be physically and mentally ready for a sexual relationship quite early on in the story. And while he knows that SHE isn't ready for it because she's still too young, and despite the fact that he loves her, it would still be hard on him because he'd get the feeling their relationship isn't moving fast enough and that things were too static between them. And depending on how the story goes, this could cause relationship issues if he tries to take things to a higher level before Usagi is 100% ready. She'd probably do it in order to make him happy, and partially because he wants to as well, but the end result would be that it had been a mistake. Not that THEY were a mistake, just the level of intimacy at their stage in the relationship. Then there would be the akward working out of it all and the hesitance on both sides to try again in the future. And it doesn't have to be all the way to full out sex for something like this, it could be something as simple as his hands wandering during a kiss to places that make her uncomfortable--such as the breast or the ass--and her not liking it as much as she thinks she should like it. That would be a good time for her to find an older senshi (one of the outers) to ask advice from, or perhaps it would be too embarasing to go to them and so she goes to Minako and Minako goes to the older senshi or something. Then you could end up with a situation where Hakura/Michiru/Setsuna think it's Minako in this situation (she does the whole "I have a friend who..." thing that people usually do when its them who have the problem but don't want to admit it) and so try to be protective and big-sisterly by following her around to find this jerk that's been feeling Minako up...

And that kinda got off topic, sorry. But yeah, I think more than him having loads of problems, Mamoru would be the one the girls go to as a big brother to guide the way. Makoto with the orphan thing, Ami with the doctor thing, Rei and Hotaru with the supernatural abilities thing (Mamoru can do some stuff too!), and Minako... maybe just info on the inner workings of a guy's mind or relationship issues or something of the sort. I don't really know for Minako, they don't really have mirrored life issues that they deal with like the other girls.

PlutoAttack I think her issues are laid out clearly enough in the story that she really doesn't need any more on her plate.

UranusPose / NeptuneWin I don't really like these two because the version I know of them best is the anime one and I absolutely hated them in theree, so I'm just not really going to comment on them too much, I'll save that for people who do like the characters. From the characterizations I have seen in fanfics that I like best, Haruka is very protective of her senshi and she has the habit of taking them under her wing as often as she can manage, which could possibly lead to a smothering effect and having problems letting others stand on their own two feet and make their own decisions. And Michiru teases others in a snarky but subtle way and has issues involving her attempts to be truly perfect. You know, like struggling under the weight of expectations placed on her from outside sources to the point that she begins to even expect it of herself without others telling her first. (Basically problems of being rich and of high scociety and how they have to keep up their perfect image and not do anything to embarass the family, etc.)

Anyway, it's late and to write any more would be to go on to Hotaru and Chibi Usa who are two of my favourite characters and would take way to long to analyze them so I'll leave it off here where the dyslexia is just starting to mix up my letters and go to bed.
