I just started reading this book yesterday since my boyfriend suggested I check it out and man, it is REALLY good so far. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of or read the book? There's also a sequel, called Catching Fire. Basically the book is about this civilization where the poor are extremely poor and likely to die of starvation, and the rich naturally are extremely rich. Once a year they hold the Hunger Games, which to the rich can be a great honor to participate and to the poor can be a chance for money, food, and oil. The main character, Katniss, ends up volunteering to compete when her twelve year old sister's name is called out of thousands to compete. And the Hunger Games are quite literally a /fight to the death/. Against twenty four other people in a survivor-like environment, you fight to the death or be killed yourself. It's really intense so far and I'm not even far into it yet. Edit: I actually finished the first and second book, and I have only one thing to say: It is my new favourite series. Ranked up on my list with Harry Potter and the Pendragon books, which for the record are way above my other book interests such as House of Night, Twilight, and even The Host which is pretty awesome. AHH, you have to! They're making a movie out of it too, and the author of the actual book is the one doing the screenplay! It's because she normally does scripts for television I guess, and only recently started doing books. So she should be great at converting it from a book to a movie! And it's really great, there's this love triangle in it as well that is just to die for. If you can get over the main characters name, "Katniss" is so weird XD |

Hahaha, you should know by now I like weird names But sounds cool! Maybe in that case I'll just be lazy and wait for the movie... And a love triangle's always nice

XD Movie's often butcher things thoughhh hahahaha. I have the ebooks on my computer, I'm going to be rereading them after I finish the Darren Shan books (Cirque du Freak series). Love triangles are amazing, so long as the main character ends up with the person you want them to :D *coughPEETAcoughcough* hahahaa. |

Hehehe, no fangirl syndrome going on here at all Well, I'll think about reading the books after... And since movies are SUCH a different medium to books it's only expected that they have to alter a lot... As long as it works well as a movie, I'm happy. And you can always read the books if that's your style And isn't there a Cirque du Freak movie coming out, too? They had promos all over Gaia... typical And love triangles do definitely add a dimension to stories... As long as they resolve them well, of course. |

There is, I'm actually finishing up the Cirque du Freak series because I never did get further than the fourth book (my school library only had the first four. Now that I've discovered ebooks though, my reading life is like... insane XD) but I'm not sure if I'll like the movie, they made it look really cheesy :( The movie SHOULD be good for Hunger Games because the author of the book traditionally does write scripts for television shows and such, and she's doing the screenplay for the movie. So I'm expecting good things from it :D Love triangles are amazing so long as they go my way XD hehehehe kiddinggggg but I agree, they need to be resolved well. Sometimes I hate them because I often like both characters and have to pick between them :( |

That's what I thought, the main reason people aren't sure how it'll be handled is because the book is in the first person and a lot of what happens is the protagonists inner thoughts, so they'd have to do something to fully capture the character's personality and stuff since a lot of the book she's alone because she's trying to survive the Hunger Games and she doesn't want to get close to anyone she'll eventually have to kill (or who will eventually have to kill her) to survive. |

But talkover inner monologues work... and I'm guessing she has a lot of interesting thoughts, so I think it'd work out fine =] |

If they're done properly they can, if it's done too much it gets cheesy, but I think they'll work hard to make it good. |
