Started watching the dub again...

I've never seen the original or read the manga. I know for a fact that both are better; which is probably why I'm afraid to check either of them out. The dub was part of my childhood, my introduction to anime, and it was just something that honestly (as cheesy as this sounds) made my life seem so good when I was just a kid. It was fun to look forward to watching it, and when I watch something I really like, or read something I really like, I get really emotionally attached.

So I started watching the dub again, it's a slower process since I can't watch it at home (I have dial-up and I don't own any of the old VHS or whatever, though I want to look into that) but I've been enjoying it a lot. It's weird, because it was so many years ago that I last truly watched it, so watching it now just seems so strange. Sometimes it feels almost embarrassing because for those who aren't fans, it's something that some people consider lame x3

I know there are people here who hated the dub, and if I'd seen the original/read the manga maybe I would too (which is why I've avoided it thus far), but is there anyone out there who still checks out the dub from time to time and enjoys it? If not for the show itself, because I know initially it wasn't dubbed the greatest, then for memory purposes? What were your favourite parts?

I know that I loved the second season, with Alan and Ann, and the Doomtree. I also loved Sailor Moon's transformation music, and her locket music. OH! And the music for the very last episode of the first season when she's fighting Queen Beryl. "Carry On", I think?

I still love the dub! I own it on DVD and rewatch it from time to time. I regularly watch every version (dub, original, live action) to see if they give me any ideas (which they always do). I'm about to watch the dub right now, actually. XD

I realize the mistakes that were made/changes that were made that I don't necessarily agree with, but I grew up with it and it will always have a special place in my heart. I also like the music! It was fantastically done and a lot of times I prefer it to the original. (Not a fan of jazz or jazz-like music).

I love every version despite their flaws. So I say that you should check out the original episodes and the manga and decide for yourself. No one can decide for you and I feel you will love every version in your own way, as it should be. Some people are just purists and try to agree with everyone else.

XD YAY FOR THE DUB! I agree about it having a special place in your heart, I don't understand how people can go from loving it to hating it just from discovering the original. No sentimental attachment at all. I mean, I still get a kick out of those "Sailor Moon Says" or whatever at the end of the episode XD I think that's great for kids who would have been watching that growing up.

The music was definitely awesome, I haven't heard music from the original, but I was always very impressed with some of the music from the dub. It's just catchy.

Loving each of them in their own way is what I'd definitely want, I'd hate to start liking one above the rest just because of one thing or another. It does kind of bug me to see people go knocking the dub and anyone who watches it when they used to as well :/

I admit I would bash the dub occasionally... But you're right, it does bring back memories, and now that I find the manga better than the anime in general I've gotten to be like that to the anime as well. But I've gotten over the worst of it, I think. I still think that Rei is at her best in the manga, but I do like different things about each version, definitely... After all, I love SMA and that's absolute crack. UsagiLaugh

But you gotta respect purists for their dedication and love of the original version... But it is silly how some would change so drastically, I mean, you still have to respect anything that you were obsessively in love with at some point. It's an important link to your past and development as a person... Oh gosh this sounds like an english essay. Time to stop UsagiLaugh

Some things about the dub even the most faithful dub lovers such as myself have to bash, and not even because it's different from the original! XD But I think it has a lot of elements people miss because they're too busy taking note of the differences rather than trying to enjoy it as a separate thing, like you said you can like and enjoy different things about each version.

I know, I just hate how people act like they never liked the dub or like they always hated it. It always seems like some of the ones who go from one extreme to the next are just following everyone elses opinion about it. They hear that other people like the original better, check it out, and suddenly they think that too and they lose sight of why they loved the dub before. It's okay to like the original better, but to suddenly hate the dub... I mean, people have to look at the audience it was intended for when it came to North America, it wasn't the same as it was for Japan. Dubs were also likely lower quality back then; they've gotten better now (one of the reasons why I'm excited about a possible re-dubbing, because they can get it a bit closer to the original so that people might complain a *little* less!)
