I've been pondering whether or not all of the Sailor Soldiers should change appearance a little bit when they transform like we decided Sailor Moon would do. (And we're just thinking Inners right now) Mainly their hair and eye color. (Eye color change is already in the game, same as in the Material Collection) Sailor Moon's hair is already decided on, but what does everyone think of the rest of the Soldiers having their hair slightly change tone? Ami's would become a lighter shade of blue, Makoto's a lighter shade of brown, maybe a little greener. What does everyone think and do you have ideas on what kind of changes would be most suitable? I know its a little hard to say without seeing examples, but once I see people are okay with the change (Assuming you are, of course) then I can get together samples so we can all decide on the right changes for sure, just like we did with Sailor Moon. My main reasoning for this is so that they're more unrecognizable. Because it just doesn't make sense for them all to look the same as their civilian forms and no one recognize them---its one of the reasons the series is laughed at a little. We want to make this serious and not have any plot holes. We can't blame Naoko for this because she wanted them to all have unique designs and for them to all wear masks but she wasn't able to do that. |

Well, I already told you which side I'm on this and I vote they do look different. The hole point of a transformation is for them to... transform into something else. one of the aspects I liked about the PGSM was that we got a better explanation as to why they would be recognize having them all look like normal japanese girls (I remember reading somewhere that Naoko stated all their hairs were supposed to be black but she added color to them because that was a good way to display their personalities, only Rei keeping the more traditional look and Chibiusa being the only one who's hair was in fact pink, given she was from a time where Usagi recovers her Moon Family status completely) and then turn and change their appearance (Albeit poorly on the budget they had) when they changed. of course this went out the bloody window when they neglected to use their codenames and just called each other by their given names in front of everyone. but I think it looks cool visually as well. mainly cause the civilian and the soldier sprites have the same form as far as gerenal outline design so it might look pretty cool to see the different between them. |

I'm okay with minor changes, but I'm not really a fan of the whole making Jupiter's hair greener. Although, I can't really say that without seeing examples. =d What about the Generals and other enemies? In the anime they kind of just roamed around looking for targets at times as civillians. Nephrite even has a relationship with Naru. I don't really remember when they found out he was evil, or if they ever didn't know so maybe that's not the best example. However, in SuperS they did some volunteer work with the Amazon Quartet and they had no idea who they were until they transformed in front of them. Anyways... my point is to ask whether or not these will be explained with such differences or something else, or even at all? I know this game is taking the strongest influence from the manga and little pieces from the other variations, but I can't help but feel any sailor moon game would also have a strong anime influence simply because without the anime, the enemies would be quite limited. This game (correct me if I'm wrong) is using the enemies from Another Story (the mosters of the day; droids, youma, phages, etc.) which all came from the anime. I'm not trying to discredit your idea or anything, I'm just curious and figured this would be a good opportunity to bring this up. |

Some Monsters of the Day from the anime are being used for nostalgia, but that's a little off the point. XD Most of the major monsters are either from the manga (what few there were) or original, so the anime isn't heavily relied upon in this case. As far as the Four Heavenly Kings' "human forms" (how they walk around unnoticed) are concerned, they will not look anything like their true selves, so that's no issue at all. So to answer your question, any enemy that pretends to be a normal human will not be easily recognizable in their "civilian" forms. That is one change I am making. Because I'm sorry, when someone changes clothes and they're unrecognizable its just silly. Not to mention in the anime none of the Four Heavenly Kings looked or acted their ages. (Well, their Material Collection ages, not sure if they applied to the anime) Jupiter having a greenish tint to her hair was just an example, I would probably end up going with a lighter shade of brown. Whatever looks right. |

Oh okay, that I didn't know. What are the monsters that are just random battles going to be then, or is that what you were talking about? I know in this game you said there's not exactly random battles because you can see the monsters walking around, but that's what I'm talking about. I agree with you, it was silly that no one recognizes them after changing clothes. The only explanation would be magic negaverse cloaking, and I suppose the same could be the said for the senshi but crystal magic or something. That's kind of an cheap, easy way to explain the problem away though, and I do like what you're doing better. |

hmmm... dificult question, I was always explaining this in the way that enemies (generals monsters and such) see the world in a different way than we do , maybe by auras and energy emanations henceforth they don't recognaize sailors in there civilian form were their power is masked ( but not always i remember one episode i think 15 of C series when one of the generals felt strange emanation from usagi and was quite concerned about her and couldn't understand why ) As to the fact that friends and family did not recognaize them it is indeed problem but look at this in other way , superman also didn't wore the mask , its the sign of times , trademark of a kind , if it troubles you the best way to do it is increased wisualization of some of there elementallike features (i for example never understood why rei - fire has black hair instead of intensive red ) the best thing to do would change there hair color in there casual form to human like ( ami with blue hair? strange) and/or change there hairstyles (during tranformation venus hair could get longer for example) but really i think that this is Sailor moon game , one of the main features of the show was the fact that they looked identical in both forms , at first it was irritating but later you either get used to it or stop watching the show . The same problem would be with other questions , who is the father of princess serenity ? Why they all looked identically , are there one person who is incarnated in different bodys over the time ? This thought is really disturbing as it makes next generations nothing but a fuel of immortality for there parents . As you can see there are many logic problems , and not only in this manga/anime i have never read/watch a manga/anime with 100% logical consitancy but to tell you the truth very few books have it and almost non films . So one must accept the style of the tale to truly enjoy it , does it never irritate you that in many manga most powerfull weapons (mech/tanks/starship) is operated by a boy who isn't old enough to drink a bear :-) or the fact that Cloud from FF7 at the age of 18 already considered himself experienced soldier , that in every japanise horror movie everybody dies :-) and you never know the logical reason for the curse/dark power/ whatever . They are strange people , they have some amazing ideas but are strange neverless :-) So I would have to say : if you wish to do so , do it , but i personaly thing that it is against the spirit of a story .

I dunno about greener Jupiter, I'd need examples too. Maybe Venus's hair could be a bit curlier than Minako's, and the color it is in PGSM to sort of set the two apart. I like Mars' and Mercury's hair colors as is, though Ami could be a bit darker in civillian form. |

Basically the idea would be to do lighter tones on mercury, much like with sailor moon used her PGSM colors. For mars I don't think Rei's hair would change color so much as have more purple tones maybe. and really as far as makoto it wouldn't be green like her Fuku's tone, it would be something like this, that represents her forest elements http://www.soul-hunter.com/sailormoon/manga/materials/002.jpg However I preffer her having brown hair but wouldn't mind her having some mix of this with brown, but I do like the idea of all their eyes changing color too. |

All this is fine but you are all taking about details , if its truly a problem for chains that senshi are unreckognizable in there battle form the subtle change of color mean nothing , imagine that you wouldn't recognaize a friend if he change hair color? And not even drasticly ! If the game have to be more realistic than there are only 2 options 1. masks - A little like sailor V 2. complete change of apearance - like Yaten & company - there body build change etc. however if this change would be incorporated this will no longer be a sailor moon game , story and plot may change but spirit of the story have to be kept , giving them masked costum would be like introducing a male senshi - breaking one of the most fundamental rules . So for that matter i say - to hell with realism :-) |

you keep saying breaking the spirit of the game bu tht makes no sense if keeping them different was Naoko, the creator's, intention. If anything that would be being true to what she believe was the spirit of her story. And no one's talking about sex changing or size changing, we're talking about color (hair and eyes), which is basically the Make Up they call upon every time they transform. |

I agree with the slight changes of color. I really liked Mercury's hair in PGSM for an example. I would advise against adding extreme makeup to the scouts. An example would be in when an artist gives Mercury bright blue lipstick. It ends up looking horrible even if the picture itself is good.

This is all? Than it is really rather funny , i thought we are disscusing a new game concept titled "Why nobody recognizes senshi in there battle forms" if all we are debating is slight change of hair color (which i probably will not notice in a game :-) ) then i really have nothing to add except with "whats the difference its just a minor detail!!!" |

It doesn't get rid of the problem completely but it makes a little more sense that they change a little more. Hair lengths and thickness could also be changed to help this. It would be like they become their past selves a little when they transform. The point is to make them more unrecognizable. Other than hair color/length and eye color there's not much that can be done without giving them all masks like their original designs. |
