Why did Beryl wasted Silver Millenium :-)

Like in the title , after all this "I love you, be mine " stuff is rather old wouldn't you say and there is plenty of other reasons she could do so for example
1. She was affraid of growing influence of the moon kingdom . That is pretty much self explanatory , since the prince uses his ... heart to think for him she as a royal advisor has to look out for possible threats , powerfull and influental moon kingdom could easily be interpreted as a threat to independence of earth.
2. Union beetwen Moon + Earth is a very dangerous think for stability of the latter . Think about this: moon has matriarch system (women govern the country) Earth has Paternal system (man govern the country) question Quenn and king have one kid a girl , will she only rule over Silver millenium or also Earth , if not who governs the earth , analogicaly with a boy. Beryl wasn't stupid she could annticipate the problem and was affraid of the possible consecunes ( civil war even) .
3. Ambition . If endymion and serenity married there would be personal throne union (2 leaders of two independent nations yet under one banner , my country had something like that in the past :-) So Endymion could easily be persueded to do serenity bidings moving royal advisor to the second plan .
4. Patriotism . She could simply love her country and didn't want it to be reduced to just add-on for moon kingdom and this might have happened . In her vision of development she may consider moon more like a rival than a kingdom earth has to bow down to .
5. Personal feelings . Yes I am not about to forget about this , think for a moment , Endymion was quit a guy but he didn't strike me as a thinker type :-) Maybe beryl was advisor for a VERY long time , maybe she (methaporical) build the kingdom with her own hands , maybe earth flurished thanks to her wise guidance , she may even be a very close friend with endymion (she must have been being royal advisor) and now he throws it away because he met new girl who comes from a rival (possibly , in her eyes) hostile country, for her pride and self-value it must have been a devastating hit . I have to say that I impatiently wait for the game to see what kind of reasoning Chains support
And how do you thing?

All of that is very wise and well thought out, but you can't deny her main driving factor---unrequited love and jealousy.

Naoko clearly stated in the manga that Beryl did what she did primarily because of her one-sided love with Endymion. She was jealous of him choosing Serenity and it drove her into the clutches of Metallia who granted her power beyond her wildest dreams to enact her revenge. She wanted to find true love and she only had eyes for Endymion. He was her ticket to true happiness.

Its very very unlikely that the people of Earth knew much about the Moon Kingdom (if anything) so I don't think that she could have been wary of the Moon's political system. Moreso I think she was horrified that Endymion would be with someone from the Moon because it is forbidden. (At least, to the Moon people it was, not sure if the reverse is also true.)

You may be right , but I am man so the idea of waging war because of love is unthinkable to me so maybe this is why I rationalize it :-) besides trojan wars was also (theoreticly) because of the woman and practicly it was a war of supremacy ( one of the kings in Homer's Iliads even talks about it unfortunatly i don't remember which one ) Beryl was not average earth person but the royal advisor she certanly attended meeting and such , and its quite easy to figure out that woman is sitting on a throne :-) Indeed Naoko stated that it was jealosy (i have never denied that as you can see in last point) but that doesn't necessairy be the main factor , it may be the final drop that cause the flood . Besides giving her a deep and well versed motives that stem from different sources would make her far more interesting character woudn't you say ? I personally don't like the idea of a wise sage destroying entire country just because she was depressed , i would much rather see her deeper motivation , that would make her more than just THE EVIL BOSS it would make her believeable woudn't you say?

Well, yes, you make good points and Beryl will certainly be deeper than throwing a fit over unrequited love, but that was her main motivation.

**************SPOILER*************

Her dying words were "All I wanted was you, Endymion. I only wanted... you." (Or something, too lazy to go check exactly.)

good point . Hovewer line "I did it to protect political stability and ensure possibilty of growth for Earth" would be a rather poor last words wouldn't you say?:-)
Its like during the war when a dying soldier see his enemy he will probabliy say something like " I hope you will die you evil barbarian" rather than " I am sure that our political differences on a geo-political sphere could be resolved thru diplomatic meanings however because of stupidity of our leaders we end up killing each other" You know , part of human nature :-))

I think its safe to say that Beryl's true evil stemmed from Metallia's influence over her. Evil acts on emotions like unrequited love, jealousy, greed, etc. Metallia influenced Beryl to do what she did for the hell of it, because she's an evil being... and used Beryl's emotions against her to make her vulnerable to her influence, thus driving Beryl to act in the name of her negative emotions. While I'm sure some of the things you mentioned may have been factors in causing her to hate Serenity and the Moon Kingdom, once she flipped her lid (so to speak) she was probably not concerned with anything but revenge.

Totally agreed on that . So (since nobody else is speaking) I guess that topic is practicly closed .

Well I think school is starting for most people so everyone's probably just a bit busy. No sense in closing discussion so quickly. XD

I do love how you want things to have deeper, darker, more realistic tones in the story. You won't be disappointed. I really go in depth with the Silver Millennium story so you'll get (my) inside scoop on exactly how Beryl was driven to madness and how she maliciously carried out her revenge in the past. One more question , this really is rather of topic but still connected to beryl . Since Endymion was PRINCE of earth its reasonable to assume that there was KING of earth ( presumably his father :-) ) will he be shown? I mean the old guy must have been quite upset with his son having romance with moon princess (or maybe contrary he was happy about it and seen it as a way to make closer relations with the moon kingdom or maybe he did not know about it and one of the generals was covering for the prince, hundreds additions to the story as you can see) Also dialogs beetwen king and beryl would be truly captivating and you could also show kings concern about beryl as they surely work together for many years the king would have noticed changings in beryl character . Tons of stuff for the story , making it deeper and better , what do you think?
PS. if in manga it is said that endymion father was dead or something like that than sorry but I read only few volums of manga .

Both of Endymion's parents will be present during the Silver Millennium story. ^^ I named them King Aethlios and Queen Calyce.

Uwaaahhh~~~ I can't wait to meet their parents~! Particularly since Mamoru's personality is still so mysterious... and they seem to have the same personalities in the past and present, so knowing his past parents would really give insight into his character... TuxedoKamenFly

Serenity won't have a father in the game---mostly because there may or may not have been a father for her. (Since we're not sure how the goddesses in that time gave birth. Venus for example was an incarnation of Aphrodite.)

An arranged marriage scenario would be interesting, except Hina from PGSM is included in the present so having that same plot twist for the Silver Millennium would be overkill. XD

It just sounds like a dream come true! I always wanted to have a more realistic, deep and comprehensive insight into manga Beryl's reasons for leading the uprise against the Moon Kingdom, and of course into the Silver Millennium era in general.

Aethlios and Calyce... Cool names, Chains, I like them very much!

By the way, regarding names: Queen Serenity states that she's called "Selene" on Earth. Since she and her daughter look almost the very same, I guess Princess Serenity is also identified as the Moon goddess Selene herself, with no distinction made by terrestrians between the two of them; which could very well be the explanation to the "Selene and Endymion relationship" in terms of strict mythology. (A mother dating on her own daughter's boyfriend? LOL)

Any thoughts on this little crazy thing?
