If You Could Change Something...

What I thought about filler episodes was this...

It's sort of a brightside way to think of it, but like...the manga goes act-to-act with only what NEEDS to be in the story. Of course the anime needed to be more than 13 episodes in the first arc, but...it's kind of like the manga shows what needs to be shown, and the anime also shows you what else goes on in the Senshi's lives when a major event is not happening. It's strange, and i don't think I put it the right way, but... UsagiLaugh

i know and i think they're good because they explore inter-character relationships buttt they really did make too many, especially in SuperS

They really did. They could've taken out a good 15-25 episodes. PlutoAttack

You know what the anime needed? CAPABLE GUARDIAN SOLDIERS. They were always being saved by Tuxedo Mask/The Moonlight Knight/The Outer Soldiers/Pegasus/The Starlights/Naru's mom.

This happened to such a minimal degree in the manga, and it makes me dread every time the fight scene in Sailor Moon comes up, because I know it's just gonna be the same thing as the last one (unless it's the end of the season).

That Naru's mom bit made me chuckle. But yeah, they're very damsel-in-distress. Coupled with a tinge of the Speed Racer "Hoh!" thing. UsagiLaugh

know what else i'd change in the anime

despite defeating almost 200 bad guys, sailor moon nearly always needed to be reminded when to attack.

TuxedoKamenFly : sailor moon now!

And you know what else? When something's happening to Sailor Moon, it's always like...

"Sailor Moon is in trouble!"

"Quick, everyone say her name! But don't just say it...draw it out as if you've never heard it before!"

I'm glad you think that way, Daio. Although the Sailor Soldiers did allow Sailor Moon to go onto the final battle by sacrificing themselves, they weren't a whole lot of use other than "MARS POWER OMG" during the actual fight. And that's just the first arc. They didn't really do much when it came to the other final battles. And of course normal battles with the monsters of the day, they were definitely very inadequate.

I have some nice plans for the final battles, especially the first story arc. Gonna be-kick-ass.

I was watching episode 125 not too long ago, and Sailor Moon was crying about Mistress 9 or something, and then it cut to the Inners, and every single one of them HAD to say her name.

MercuryAttack : "Se...ra Moon..."

MarsAttack : "Sera...Moon."

Or some variation on that. UsagiMad Drives a Circe nuts.

Honestly, I think it's something that carried over way better to the live action series than the anime. Several episodes show the girls taking on monsters by themselves, or in small groups with high capability. Heck, in one episode Mars has to take on a creature by herself in several instances; Venus, upon her first appearances, blows Zoicite away with a single blow- one of Beryl's BEST.

So, I hope your plans are in the same strain as the live action in that they fight like actual protectors of the solar system. I'm sure they'll be great.

PGSM Venus? Oh, yeah. She can totally cut a...girl. The girls in PGSM have much more physical strength and less of a damsel-in-distress quality, which isn't too much help for the game, other than the way they act in cut scenes. It's rare in the anime, but sometimes one girl can destroy the monster-of-the-day. It's mostly in the "new attack" episodes, but Uranus and Neptune both had enough strength upon their debut to take out multiple Daimon.

It definitely would appear that the anime diluted the girls abilities; Naoko is a feminist icon, she invented these butt-kicking women in school uniform and i don't think it was perverted, it resembles power and the feminine and it was a shame that was altered in the anime a bit. Tuxedo Kamen took more of a role as the protector and at times, i thought you forgot that the senshi were sailor moon's guardians.

they came through in the end though, especially by stars when they were protecting sailor moon's star seed, i thought that was great when Rei-chan ran to usagi's house. i think that's part of the reason stars was my favourite season.

Very well put, Lilly. I totally agree. Naoko is a feminist icon and a supporter of equality (homosexuality). I think the Starlights started off kind of like a lot of the mysterious characters did, not becoming true protectors until the very end. I would've...kept their gender female in the anime, like Naoko intended.

Way to ramble, Circe.

Totally agree with that. That has ALWAYS bothered me. Always. Rawr. I also agree with more kick-butt heroes needed - after so long, you would think they'd improve, or get some kind of official training (only one I saw was Makoto, who did take some martial arts training, or had already done so before becoming a sailor senshi). Ok, another thing - in Stars, I seriously wanted the girls to get their Eternal power ups. In one episode, the one where the inner senshi group is at that video game contest, it seemed like Mercury was going to take down that bad guy and not rely on Sailor Moon anymore like she said. The first time I saw it... I totally thought she was going to power up. Then she fizzled out (because Sailor Moon saved her perhaps?) and didn't power up. Sailor Moon was all depressed at the time and Mercury was being extra sensitive towards how she felt, and didn't want to put pressure on her all the time. Aww, sweet Mercury. Boo, no power ups. I also absolutely love Sailor Cosmos, and would have liked to have seen her, as well as more of Chibi Chibi, and the other Sailor Animates/Animamates (spelling?) who didn't make it into the anime. Despite that most of my comments have been about the Stars, season, it is probably my favorite, or second favorite season, along with Sailor Moon S. I love Sailor Saturn, as well as Uranus and Neptune. All of the Outer Planet senshi needed more screen time in the show. Chibi Moon got too much of it, for my taste anyway, although on my second run through my SuperS DVD set I decided I didn't loathe her anymore... I just don't really like her. She's still a brat, but I understand much more of the why behind it.

Other things I would have changed - I would have explained why Naru and Umino stopped showing up later in the series, or I would have included them a little more often. I would have shown a few episodes with Venus moonlighting as Sailor V, since some of the manga for Sailor V was still being published while Sailor Moon was, as far as I know. They could have gotten rid of some of the filler episodes, or added more for the Sailor V things. I am not so much of a fan of Tuxedo Mask saving the day, but I do feel like he was a bit of a parody of male heroes in cartoons, because of his flowery and/or ridiculous speeches. I would have liked to see the Sailor Amazoness Quartet (or is it just Amazon?) and maybe even princess forms for non-Moon family people. A better explanation for Helios, as already stated, and the Golden Crystal too - that most of all, because I had always felt that the Silver Crystal was supposed to be the most powerful, and then here's this Golden Crystal that might be more powerful? Where does it come from? Why didn't anyone know about it?

That's all I feel like typing right now XD. Even with those, I did still love the series, and I still rewatch it every once in a while. I've actually been thinking about finishing the S season again, since I stopped watching it shortly after the discovery of the true Talisman holders (had a different show to watch for a while) so I can then go back to a different season.

Edit: Also agree with the post about keeping the Starlights women at all times. That always bugged me. Would also like to see more of Princess Kakyuu, like her Sailor form, and what makes her so powerful as to be the princess of her solar system.
