I know this is sort of a late post, but I believe that Sailor Cosmos is not Sailor Moon, atleast in this reality. Her name Sailor Cosmos seems more than that, like a collective of all the senshi around the world. There is also mystery to her. She was able to disguise herself as ChibiChibi, maybe Cosmos is just another one of her disguises. We don't even no the legitmacy of her story either. To me she is more of a God-like entity whos true intentions will remain a mystery.

This has already been discussed, but I think it's important to clarify over and over. The Sailor Cosmos character is quite a vague and ambiguous one, I do accept that, and is open to many theories and interpretations, some of them very interesting. BUT there is one irrefutable fact, for which I'll quote myself and the manga, literally:
This is crucial: Sailor Cosmos undoubtedly identifies herself with Usagi. Even a picture of ChibiChibi holding Usagi is shown while Cosmos says so ("supported her"). Period. Now, is Sailor Cosmos a reincarnated Usagi in the most distant future? Did her soul experience a transmigration or something alike? Is she actually the same Usagi we know from the 20th century present? How did she come to be? Those (and many more) are the possibilities open to debate, but aways having a pretty clear base: Sailor Cosmos is SOMEHOW our Usagi. Just my 2 cents. Edited by Hermes, Jul 14 2009, 04:08 PM.

When Sailor Cosmos says "my self", I don't think it's to be interpreted too literally. Rather, Sailor Cosmos could be the embodiment of every sailor soldier throughout the universe (or at least the galaxy). |

Yeah, that interview is accurate; it was in a magazine published by the company that is now Tokyopop. I have the final volume of Sailor Moon as translated by Tokyopop. This is the Tokyopop version of Hermes' quote: "I remember the battle here. If I destroyed the Cauldron back then... would there be any more sufferings? I had so many regrets, so... I came back... to do everything over. My self here was alone and suffering too. That is why I kept close and supported her... to help her make the right choice." Also, Sailor Cosmos says: "The Sailor Moon that just saved the galaxy is Sailor Cosmos' true form." So, yeah. She's Sailor Moon. Perhaps she was a power alternate to Eternal Sailor Moon? I believe she refers to the present version of Sailor Moon as a separate person at times is because she regrets her own mistakes heavily and feels that her past self is not as shameful as she is now, so she does not equate with her for that reason, even though they're the same person. |

She looks like Usagi. Naoko says she's the future Sailor Moon. The conversation to me seems pretty obvious she considers Usagi as her past self. I don't think it could be more clealer that we're supposed to assume that they're the same person. And why is that such a hard concept to grasp? This is a being that died on the moon and later resurrected, is likely she went through more changes as time went on and inmortality doesn't seem like impossible for her. |
