BLOOD!

Well, no yeah, we can't have bloody Pretty soldiers.

But I think the sugested red effect in the status and with a worried/stunned/scared face set can do the job.

Looks great Chains!! You really know what you're doing with this game, hahaha!
I hope you don't mind but I went ahead and threw together a rough mock-mockup of what I've been envisioning of your descriptions for the final look. Something similar to this, ne? Probably with better symbols (PGSM ones?) and bacgrounds though..^^"

I think it might look better if instead of using the brooch as a cursor the outline of the selected square should flash/blink. =3

PS: I'll have that tile set for you soon! Betweent playing LaPucelle Tactics and Ateleir Iris 3, I've been quite distracted UsagiLaugh

I'd say for status effects...

Poisoned = green
Freeze = light blue
Paralyzed = yellow
Confuse = paler yellow
Blind = perhaps blank out the portrait completely?
Sleep = dark blue
Charmed = pink

I don't think slow and weak really need colors.

For confused I think the swirly eyes (I think) Chains mentioned before would be good... wouldn't wanna get distracted with paralyzed ^^;...

Could weak have half-closed eyes? And... I dunno about slow... but with blind, maybe sunnies on the picture? hehe... Kind of Final Fantasy, but, blanked out might look like death... But yeah, I agree, otherwise ^^

For the hp/mp part. Use bars with values on top. Allows quick overview of a character's remaining life and mana(useful in many situations when you have limited time) and if you have time, you can see the exact life and mana for more detailed knowledge.

Portraits should change at 50% and 25% health or maybe at 10% to reflect this. Just looks cool.

Having things flash on the screen is awesome. Do this for enemies as well. I want to see battlecries when attacks are initiated and pained expressions on the hurt characters. Would make everything look very dynamic, like a fighting game.

Depending on how many enemies are on screen at a time, you may have to conserve space. I like battles against large numbers personally, but do what you want here.

Enemies should have life bars is you use scan type spells on them I think. No numbers, just a small bar. Tactical information and all that. Would make those spells useful.

If more than one party member has a full bar, then you can toggle between them by pressing L and R.

It may be easier (both to code and to play) with the current setup (based on the mockup images) to just use left and right, like when scrolling through a single character's options

Examples:
Moon and Mercury are full. If your icon is on Moon's "Item" icon, and you hit right, it will move to Mercury's "Attack" icon, and switch Mercury to active.

Moon and Mars are full, but Mercury is not. If your icon is on Moon's "Item" icon, and you hit right, it will move to Mars's "Attack" icon, jumping past Mercury, sicne she can't act yet, and switch Mars to active.

I agree, I'd prefer using Up and Down to toggle between active characters as opposed to Left and Right though. Just because it makes more sense since the icons are horizontal.

That looks great, Lyndii! ^___^ That's pretty much what I had in mind, only unless the player is picking commands for an active character, I don't want the icons to show above their portrait. And just Venus's portrait should be blacked out, not the whole box and whatnot.

And I agree about the icons flashing/blinking or whatever as opposed to the cursor. That cursor is for the menu not the battle system anyway, but thanks for thinking ahead. XD

I think that would look nice, I'm sure Kairose can do that. I was already planning on having bars appear above the enemies heads once they were scanned. ^^

I think:

Poisoned = green
Freeze = Portrait is tinted light blue and maybe sparkles?
Paralyzed = Eyes sort of blank (To show they're frozen)
Confuse = Eyes swirling
Blind = Eyes are "X"s
Sleep = Eyes closed and portrait has a dark blue tint
Charmed = Eyes are hearts, maybe pink tint to the portrait

Might work better. I think there should be a little more to them than just color differences.

Wouldn't X eyes be too cartoony or you weren't being litteral about that?

I think for blind you should do the blank eye, cause is more accurate to the description.

As for paralized, it should be something like a struggling twitchy eye shot. Cause they would be trying to move, but can't.

I should find a screen cap of what I mean..

o^ω^o
What'll be in the place of the icons? The battlefield I'm guessing..?
I blacked out Venus' whole box because it was a bit too hard to tell that it was a KO and not just a dark colour scheme..My monitor's massively bright so..^^""

Keep up the great work Chains! Seeing the mockup has really fired me up!! I'm gonna work twice as hard to become a tile factory!!! UsagiHappy

When you say "icons" are you refering to the character sprites? Because I know when I play games and am choosing which character to be active, I usually look at the bar at the bottom, rather than the characters themselves.

Several games have had just the names of the characters listed vertically and you select the character and action, so I would use Up/Down, but as this game has the character's portraits and such displayed horizontally, I would think Left/Right would make more sense and then pressing the confirmation or select button would activate a character as long as their bar was full. That would make the action icons apear and then you would choose that character's action, or if you wanted to change your mind, press the cancel button, and scroll left/right to whichever character you would like to use instead.

Does that make sense at all? LunaDown

EDIT: I switched horizontal and vertical, whoops. x.x

I think when he says "Icons" he's referring to the Attack, Special, Link and Items bar. Those are scrolled using Left and Right so switching characters would pretty much have to be Up/Down. =3

Well, if you have to actually press a button to select a character and then that button again to select the action, and another button would be used to go back, then both could be Left and Right. I think Left and Right would make more sense too, seeing as the icons are horizontal, appearing above the character box.

I think I mixed horizontal and vertical up in my last post... x.x
