Oh My Goodness,

This has got to be one of the greatest FanDub projects there is! I caught a glimpse of the opening for Sailor Moon Universe and was just left in awe! The work that these people do are just great

Here is the amazingly beautiful opening:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFVaqBPauRA

The song is "Tsubasa" by the one and only Anza Oyama, the first Sailor Moon actress on SeraMyu(Sailor Moon Musicals).

Here is the official Sailor Moon Universe site for those who want to see:

http://la-densetsu.net/smu/

So far they released their first episode, and it is fairly decent considering it is a fan dub. It is a little weird because they basically cut scenes from previous episodes to try and make a new series, but it does work. I highly recommend it!

I would join the VA cast under one condition: It has to stay true to the orignal version...yes..all names...all attack references...etc. Otherwise, I can't do it.

Then you won't like this:

(It's from the FAQ on their site)

Why the DUB character names?
This is a VERY common question we get. Our most basic reason is that SMU has been created for a North American audience, and since most of the cast is based here in North America, the names should be what people here will recognize most with. We like the DiC chosen names, and we will continue to follow that format. We really don't understand why some many people hate this idea...

.... They don't understand it? o_o"

That is the biggest, lamest, and lazinest excuse I've ever heard of in my life. Let's see....the 5th season was never dubbed right? So this so-called 6th season makes 110% NO SENSE WHATSOEVER since the 5th was never dubbed at all.

This is so gonna fail, and that's why I was iffy about it in the first place.

If I know and can prounce all the orignal japanese names; and no it's not from watching the anime for 6 years now...I actually picked up on the names in only 6 months after seeing the orignal for the first time. If I can learn the names...they can learn the names. There's just no excuse for this. Now there's something they need to understand.

If they're using the dub names, I hope the Starlights aren't making an appearance.

I hope that doesn't mean they'll also keep the 'cousin' stuff. Because that was wrong on so many levels.

Hey there guys,

So I'm here to explain some things, and possibly make you less weary.

Well the reason we chose the Dic names /truthfully/, is the fact that yes- we can pronounce it...but it sounds really weird for a English voice cast to use them.
I'm not saying the original names are bad...-guilty of fighting hard for the Japaneses names-

As well, we thought this might bring back the good ole' childhood memories we all have of Dic dub.

The starlights will be making appearances, but will be keeping their Japanese names. Although you might not like the fact that at a certain point it gives a very small hint that Serena actually liked Seiya, this should not be too big a deal- as it does only just hint.

The fact that the 5th season isn't dubbed by a big company in north America, does not mean that this does not make sense.

To the fact you may think this is going to fail....what are we trying to win? Were just trying to have fun in making a fan sailor moon project.
We have our second episode masking almost done, and a...I guess you could say upgraded...but it really is amazingly different, transformation. Scripts are going to be sent out to the staff soon, if all goes as planned, we plan for release on the 14th. The third episodes story line and planning is already under way, and design for the DVD has already started as well.
So, if we were trying to win something, I say were not quite failing yet, are we?

And, thankfully, NO we will NOT be continuing the concept that Michiru and Haruka as "Good cousins"...That is pointless...and its just SO obvious that they are not. We do believe in keeping with the original- only change was the names basically. As well, we do have gay, lesbian, and bi-sexual staff on board, so this would also be seen as an insult if we were to do this.

Anyways, I hope this cleared up at least a few little mishaps. Hope your having a great day, wherever you are in the world UsagiHappy

EDIT: Also, we are making plans to have a low quality flash player version when we switch web hosts in the next few weeks or so, that means you can watch without downloading.-But, at a cost of quality

Squirrel,

I think that what you said was a little unjust. So what if they are using the Dub names? It makes sense what Jason said. Its easier for an english cast to pronounce english names. If you were to say Usagi or Mako-chan, it would just sound funny. Besides, Starlights can show up if they want them to. Firstly, you would know that no one wanted to dub the Starlights season because it was so controversial because of the Starlights changing sex during transformation. You're lucky season 4 got dubbed, albeit heavily edited. So I think what you said needs a little of the venom taken out of it, and you need to tone done the uber-fan-ness and give something new a shot.

If you didnt want to do it, you could have just said no. MarsAttack

I wrote up that FAQ myself, and like I said in it, I don't see why people think so ill of the DUB names. You're basically condemning us for the sake of the names. It's almost weird to read what you said because at the end of the day, you're basing it on the NAMES.

Jason did an excellent job answering your concerns, but please be realistic with us. We would prefer to have other aspects of our project taken seriously, like the masking and voice acting, not just the names.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments!

I'm sure you'll have great VAs and things....but a true dub of PSSM would use the orignal names. Look I have no problem with keeping the "Tuxedo Mask" name (since Kamen is japanese for Mask anyways), but I have a major problem when you can't even say the simple name of "Usagi". Give me a break. My 8 year old nephew can say most of the names in the orignal version....but none of you can't??

I stand by what I said....you want a real dub of PSSM, get back to me when you need ideas for a re-dub of the orignal anime in english...should a Funimation or a ADV get the licence.

1, This is not a dub of ANY season of BSSM, its a fan made show of a fan made 6th season.

2, I stress this, we CAN say the names, but we've had more than just one or two people agree with us (It was a FLOOD of people) that with English voice acting and script, it sounds weird. Yes we could say it with an American accent, but then that would be reason for more complaining, or we could say it with the Japanese accent, but then it sticks out from the lines and makes the flow of sentences sound horrible.

Again, this also is not anything official, its fan made and for fun, but we would like to have a certain quality with things, so that our vocal cast who will be looking forward to add this to their resume and addition tapes will have something better to present.

Also, nobody was demanding you voice for this project, yet you seem to think like we did. You are welcome to try out at any time, but nobody is or was going to force you.

Hope everyone is having a great day UsagiHappy

Did other japanese animes that was dubbed well in english ever have this problem? Did these VAs make saying japanese names and such sound werid? Did Wendee Lee ever have a NEGAVERSE FLUNKY problem with accents when she poured her time into so many animes she's been involved in over the years??

Dude, your a joke for saying that. Your project is a joke, and since it is a fanmade one...well...good luck trying to get an audience for your great big 6th season project. Maybe instead of trying to do a mock season of PSSM, you and your cast should go watch and listen to some of the great english speaking VAs in anime dubs....maybe then you all won't find it so werid to say things without hardly using an accent at all.

*rolleyes*
