I was on myspace and I saw a Johnny Cash debut CD advertisement and I literally almost shit myself... I am a HUGE Cash fan, and think the man is a true American, and world icon... I knew that he had been working on his American V album, but I had been hearing that it wasn't going to be released, so I had no idea that it was coming out... I checked out the profile and the quote instantly sums this album up:

Quote:

"These songs are Johnny's final statement."

The profile has the album on it, and I am halfway through it now, with tears in my eyes. This is a TOP NOTCH album, and I know that I will make a change to my pirating ways for this one... I am going to leave Demonoid alone and go out and pay for this one... If you are even remotly interested in Johnny Cash, I HIGHLY suggest this album to you...

This is the last of John we'll ever hear... And its worth hearing.

Click here to visit the Johnny Cash Myspace, which has the album that you will be able to listen to on it.

Aye... It is... Very tranquil, and tough to bear knowing John won't be speaking to us with new things to say ever again...

I'm guessing you guys like the ''old'' singers. I on the other hand like the modern singers, probably because i'm younger.

Well, thats the thing about Johnny Cash... He has always been able to defy age barriers and gain respect from young and old. His music, and ideas have transcended and appealed to generation to generation from the late fifties, to today.

If you want my personal opinion, Johnny Cash will forever be known as the biggest music star in the business. 99.9% of people in the industry are fans of his, and were influenced by him in some way. He is just as big now as he was almost 60 years ago, and new people are turned on to his music and idealistic ways every day...

No one else can really say that... The only person who could come close to being able to say that would be Elvis. But he doesn't come close to being as big as Cash, I don't think... Cash has had a career almost 25 years longer, and people seem to be able to connect with Cash better.

Holy Shit.. Cash will always have it. Johnny Cash is a legend that will never be out done. I am 21 years old, and I am a main listener to Rap, and Rock, and not a big fan of Country. But it is so hard not to like Johnny Cash. His music doesn't have to be flashy, just had to have that trademark voice. Funny, I always got a tear in my eye from his old stuff, but this is that stuff that makes ya break down even in a good mood.

No one asked you^^

I can honestly say that the rythm to this music sucks, but the words are so touching....the words are the important key in this album. And as much as i hate this kind of music, i can tell you that this album is one that you can listen to in the dark and crie your eyes out. RIP johnny cash, i never listened to your music until now, and now i see why your considered a legend.

Well, there have been many phases of Cash's music... I mean you listen to his Sun Records and you will hear a TOTALLY diffrent sound from what you hear on his American Recordings. His early stuff was that sharp sound... The slapping bass, and guitar legend Luther Perkin's simple picking rhythms... It drove the beat unlike most.

In his star years, he had an array of sounds... Luther Perkins had passed away in a moter cycle accident, but had been replaced by his brother, and another guitar legend, Carl Perkins...

When the 80's hit and time started to take a toll, Columbia tried to repackage him and give him a modern sound, which didn't fit him at all. Then there were the Highwaymen years where he was teamed with Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings and they made some great songs...

In the 90's Johnny Cash made a return as himself under the rock record label American Records. Rick Rubin, owner of the label and rock guru, told John to come in, and record. Whatever he needed, Rubin would do his best to get... American I was John with a guitar, and a microphone. He sang. And people LOVED it. Johnny Cash had been forgotten by the country music system, which has a way of doing that, and was now back ontop of American music.

American II, and III were John with some backup, and produced some of his best material... American IV was the essential Cash album... It featured Hurt (The Eddie Gurrerro tribute song) and the video for that song is a HIGHLY chilling look at the man... The album was HIGHLY praised, and even finally accepted by the country music communtity. Hurt won single of the year, and if I am not mistaken, the album won Album of the Year.

Johnny Cash has been able to do something that VERY FEW music artists have EVER been able to do: he has reinvented himself, with the same core principals for 50 years. He has been able to change his style, and sound, and still be able to capture the imaginations and intrest of young and old. Cash has been able to fill the void between races, and ages. Not many other artists have been able to do that.
