Hey guys... I recovered this topic from the old forums... We all remember it... The survivor series... 1997.... Bret Hart was "screwed" out of the WWF title. So instead of having 10000 diffrent threads about this strange mess of events, I have taken the liberties of making an OFFICIAL thread for it. Post you thoughts, and feelings about what is considered by many to be the worst night in wrestling history, right here. As much as I hate to admit it, I have agreed with Vince since he done it. I mean, you know Eric Bischoff would have reached far enough down in Ted Turners pocket to grab his cock to get the money to bring Bret to Nitro the next night. And I wouldn't have blamed Bischoff. I would have done the same. Bret Hart recived 7 million JUST FOR SINGING with WCW and if I were Ted Turner when I was watching the PPV, which you know every big-wig in WCW was.... I would have offered Bret 5 million to overnight me the belt, and I would start at another 7 million to get him to show up on Nitro with it the next night. And if he shot that down, I would work him all the way to 15 million. Because that would have killed the WWF. But neither side is totally right, nor totally wrong. Vince had allowed Bret "reasonable creative control" in his contract which basicly stated that Bret didn;t have to do anything that each side didn't agree on. Which meant if Bret had decided not to job to Shawn, he wouldn't have to. This was a HUGE mistake on Vinces part. NO wretler should have creative control... This is a big subject with me because Waylon Jennings fought for creative conrtol in country music and I agree with him 110% but in the wrestling world, that just can't work. Both Bret and Vince had met that day and had decided that the match would end in a schmoz, and Bret would go to RAW the next night and forfiet the title. And Bret agreed to that. They were doing a documentry on Bret at the time and A&E acctually had cameras backstage that exact night. I mean, it was as if though they had decided to do that documentry at the perfect time. I don't think they could do something like that again if they tried. After the match there was a HUGE crowd of people outside his locker room. His wife was verbally bashing Triple H because she said that he knew about it... They even showed Shawn IN BRETS LOCKER ROOM SWEARING HE WASNT INVOLVED. I lost a lot of faith in Shawn when I found out that he in fact did know. Another interesting note was when Earl Hebner, whom Bret had said was his best friend in the business and the world, swore on his kids' life that he wouldn't let anything happen. In the end, I think that there was no way to do right. I think Vince just had to choose between to wrongs, and he chose the one the benefited him and all of his employees. |
