Allright ... gonna try a little review after about a week of playing the game.

To start with, I wanna give the GM Mode a closer look since this is what I was looking forward to the most. It is actually pretty decently done, not as complex as I woulda liked it it as a wrestling sim player, but its a good start and fun to play, especially with 2 human players. I hope for a more in depth mode next time around, which they already said they would do (based on gamer feedback), but until then this one will keep me going for a while. 8/10

The season/story mode however is a huge disappointment to me. Its way too linear and short, not even a full year on either brand. Other matches on the card (only 2 next to the player match, bummer too) don't have any meaning but give you the impression at least that something is going on. In my RAW season, I had the same 4-6 guys competing on each and every show (Daivari was in a 5 month rivalry with HBK apparently since they squared off almost every week). The storylines themselves aren't bad at all, just the way the whole mode is done. The only choices you have are minor (match types for the most part) and that's about it. When I compare this year's SL mode to the one in HCTP, the voice overs were a pretty bad trade in cause that is the dev's reasoning to make it the way it is. Voice overs. Well to be honest, I'd trade them back for more freedom of choice any day. All the time I was playing the season I had the feeling of walking from checkpoint to checkpoint until I finished it on the SAME day ... err ... great. 2/10

The sheer amount of matches is great, no doubt. I think I don't have to get into this too much since this is one of the basic parts of the game. I just wonder wtf happened to the great array of backstage areas from HCTP ... kinda miss that a lot. Still a 9/10

The graphics are superficially very nice (for a PS2 that is), yet after a closer look there are a couple ... unpleasant glitches. I am mainly talking about clipping errors. You see arms sticking through necks in sleeperholds etc ... doesn't look too well and is also a part of the gfx side (the Masterlock is especially ... odd). The models themselves, especially during entrances and cutscenes, are pretty good (in ring models have less level of detail tho but are still decent enough). 7.5/10

One main gripe next to the season I have with this game is that its using scripted animations all over. Now of course, besides wrestling games on console I play on PC so I am used to fancy stuff such as real physics and ragdoll, but still... seeing everyone roll over on the floor in the same way just cause its one global animation loop being used is just soooo not 2005. Then, the animation transitions are very rough. You can literally TELL when the script runs out and the script for getting back to the feet starts. To me (who is bothered by details like this), it looks just awkward. I am not putting this into my final judgement of the game since in all likeliness, it has to do with the rather outdated hardware of the PS2, I just wanted to express that this is stuff I don't want to see on PS3 installments of the WWE franchise anymore. Real physics would just make this game sooo much more realistic and pretty to behold... well, we'll hopefully see this come to live eventually.

The AI is ... well lets just say not present. Its scripts in and out. And those AI scripts do not function right at times, for example when a tag partner is supposed to break a pin... its a bit hard to explain but lets just say its not really different than in previous THQ-WWE titles. The difficulty levels only seem to determine how frequent the AI counters moves and how fast it reacts to a player in general. A nice extra however is the ability to adjust the AI via sliders. Still though, this game to ME shines playing against another human and not the computer. 5/10 for the AI.

Now to overall gameplay, minor things etc... I LOVE the fact that you are able to defend titles in exhibition. That was about damn time. The CAW mode is as deep as always and the CAWs look better than ever, but I would like to see more stuff to be put on your guy that is actually used in wrestling. Some of the layers do not make much sense or have too much appeal imho (the face paint is horrible for example...).
The ring entrances are the best in the series so far, and the presentation is closer to actual TV than it ever was before. I could go on and on about the little details that make this game really MUCH better than last year's SvR but I'll stop my review right here. I would like to comment on the online mode too (which apparently was improved) but I cannot because I don't play online on the PS2. That is what I got my PC for... ;)

In conclusion, THQ and Yukes have done a good job this year. There is room for improvement as mentioned before, but all in all they created a fun game to play.

Overall, including the single ratings PLUS my personal fun rating I give it a 8/10 for multiplayer and 6/10 for playing against the AI in whatever mode.

Comment anyone?

It is a great game but after having it now for nearly a month and having done all the season storylines and the GM Mode it is now a little boring, but I am now just focusing on the challenges in the game.

Okay, I just got this game, and I love it. Two questions though:

1. There are locked arenas, how do you unlock them.

2. Are there really different storylines for each character, because they all start the same?
