Prologue In a twisted and dark universe, there was once a peaceful and graced world, known to all as Akizar. It held some of the most breathtaking areas, such as the Mountains of Hapur, the plains Leigh, and the beautiful Teran sea. Akizar was controlled by five elements; earth, fire, water, air, and light. Each of them were protected by a guardian, wielding a special weapon for each of their elements. However, after many years of untold peace, something dreadful happened. Something so evil, it makes even the strongest warriors shudder in fright, went to an uncharted island, where one of the five elements was supposedly held. It was the light element. This evil destroyed the guardian of Light with a single blow, or so the story goes, and snatched the element of Light and the weapon the guardian was wielding. Soon, darkness came over all of Akizar, and the evil began to make it’s destructive plan as the whole world was in unthinkable fright. However, one person knew of this evil, and planned to stop it. He knew he needed help, so he got on his horse and travelled to the other side of the world to find one warrior of whom he knew could stop this evil. In the meantime, the town of Tenrak on the east side of Akizar had been attempting to survive from frequent attacks sent by an unknown opposition. In this small town was the warrior he was searching for. But would he get there in time…? Chapter 1 The maid was rushing around the small house, knocking on her master’s door as she continued with her morning chores. “Master Lase, it’s time for battle. The army is approaching, and your general wants you to the battlefield immediately!” Inside that room was him, already putting on his armour, sharpening his sword, and polishing his shield. “Thanks Mariam. I’ll be out there in a sec’,” Lase yelled through the door, as he continued to polish his shield shortly after his sword sharpening. After about half a minute, he was ready to go. Lase got out of his room and out of his house, walking to the outskirts of town to try and stop the army said to be coming by scouts. People looked at him in gratefulness, wishing him luck in the battle today, while their children looked up at him in awe. Despite the darkness, Lase could see their faces glowing with anticipation. Shortly afterwards, he was standing alongside his comrades who have fought with him in many hard battles. He grinned at them, and they returned the grin, knowing that whatever happened today, they’ll stay strong together. It didn’t take long for nothing to happen, for the army came into sight almost immediately. Each of them looked each other in the eye, and thrust their swords into the air and ran towards the army. Horsemen backed them up, keeping a distance behind them not to run anyone over. Archers and more heavily equipped infantry brought up the rear, along with many catapults. The opposing army had near the same lineup, but with war elephants and other animals. Lase had already come up to a bulkier soldier, who eyed him carefully before slashing to his right, aiming for Lase’s shoulder. Lase dodged to his right, and dashed to the back of the big man. He thrust his sword into his back a split second after dodging him, and the man let out a roar of pain before falling hard onto the ground, death taking him over. Blood spattered onto Lase’s uniform from the soldier, but he never noticed. He saw, out of the corner of his eye, an enemy soldier running to an archer, murder on his mind. Lase pulled out a quiver of arrows from his back and set them on the ground. Pulling out his bow also attached to his back, his master archery skills hit the soldier square in the chest. He looked up in surprise, and his eyes rolled back, as he downed on his back. The archer put up his hand lazily, showing his gratitude, as he shot down a huge warrior wielding two axes, slashing at anything and anyone that got in his way. Lase put the arrows back and looked to see the enemy army loading up the catapults. He sheathed his sword and slashed and thrusted at all enemy soldiers, leaving a path of death in his wake. When he reached the first catapult, he jumped up, pulled the blade over his head, and slashed down, killing the catapult loader who was extremely surprised, turning his head to meet his death. He then cut all the ropes keeping the catapult together, and it fell apart, landing on an unfortunate soldier who was underneath it, unaware of the sudden collapse. Suddenly, someone knocked the sword out of his hands. He glanced to his side to see what appeared to be a special infantry, equipped with huge metal fists, apparently specifically for breaking bones. Grinning evilly, this soldier swung at Lase, but he dodged, getting his shield out. He swung again, and Lase slid on the ground underneath him, throwing his shield right at his face. The man yelled in extreme pain, and fell to the ground. He decided to get back up, despite the bleeding face from Lase’s pointed shield, but was met with one of Lase’s own fists, and he was out cold. Lase swiftly decided to keep him alive for questioning later. In the meantime, he slid on the wet grass all the way to where his sword was lying, untouched for some reason. Lase picked it up and immediately slashed behind his shoulder, killing one of the axe wielders that was about to slice him in half. His extreme training had paid off then, sensing those behind him even if they made not a single noise. He noticed now that many of the enemy soldiers had now been slaughtered, and yet none of his troops had been killed. He let out a deep sigh, because he knew that this was just like all the other battles. Every army seems so weak, yet they come so frequently. A loud noise sounding like a trumpet with some very loud stomping shattered his thoughts, as he turned around to see one of the war elephants on a rampage. Lase readied himself, and when the elephant was close enough, he slid under it, grabbing it’s tail. He was being dragged around at quite a fast speed for an elephant, but he swung himself up after several painful seconds, onto the elephants back. Now controlling this war elephant, he trampled the remainder of all enemy troops, yelling in surprise and fear. A roar of victory swept over the area, and they all lifted their swords, or any other weapons, in triumph. Lase walked over to the man he knocked out earlier, who was know conscious, but all his fight was gone. “Come with me,” he said grimly to the man, who looked around in utter shame . Lase picked him up and put himself and the man on the war elephant, but the man was in front of him, so Lase can make sure he didn’t try to escape. They got to the village, where no one was in the streets. Lase wondered where they all were, knowing that the eternal darkness couldn’t be as dark that he couldn’t see people, and heard a booming voice call out from one of the houses. “Give our troop back, or this woman gets beheaded!” Lase turned in bewilderment to see a large army general with a scar across his face and many weapons around his belt. But he was focusing on the blade that the general was using. In the darkness, he couldn’t ignore the blade that was inches away from his own maid, Mariam, and her neck. Chapter 2 “I said give him.” The general said again, as if he were growling. Lase let go of him, and he stumbled to his master’s feet. “Oh sir, I am so sorry about this, I won’t let this happen again, please spare me…” he continued to plead to his general. “Please, Master Rik, put this behind you. I won’t fail you next time, I won’t.” Rik snarled and pulled the man up by the front collar of his soldier’s uniform, dropping Mariam in the process. “And I will make sure, personally, that you won’t.” he said. His voice was a deep, ominous voice, nothing Lase had ever heard. In the meantime, Lase was slowly pulling out a quiver of arrows, attempting to throw it right at chest. Suddenly, he thrust it forward like a javelin, and it hit Rik square in the chest. Or so Lase had thought, for the arrow seemed break in half, as if Rik had very strong armor underneath his thick, muscular looking chest. Rik looked up, with a thin smile on his face. All of the soldiers surrounding him drew their blades and weapons. “No, I sense a strange power within this one. I’ll take him. All of you go back to the fortress,” Rik told them. The soldiers still stood their, surprised at their leader’s decision. “I said, go,” he repeated. He sounded calm, but for some reason, his voice had a strong foreboding within it. The soldiers nodded to each other, and walked off. Some of the infantry from Lase’s own army began to start forward, attempting to chase them, but Lase simply held out his hand in front of them, signalling that they shouldn’t chase them. “Heh heh heh heh, you’ll regret that choice of yours warrior,” Rik said, his laugh sounding like a roaring lion. “I could care less. If you really are a general of this army attacking us, I’ll be keeping you alive for questioning,” Lase said, almost emotionless. Rik seemed ticked off at Lase’s neutral attitude and the fact he didn’t show any fear, and he drew two swords, both of which somehow grew double their original size. Many of the soldiers gasped in surprise and possibly envy, and Rik didn’t seem to strain at all, holding swords that looked near a tonne each. Lase simply sheathed his sword and readied his shield, guessing for an all-out assault. His prediction came true. Rik roared an inhuman battle cry, and charged at Lase, seemingly recklessly. Lase predicted that he would just hack and slash at him, trying to hit him, but he was surprised. Rik feinted to the right, then rolled to Lase’s left and slashed all the while running behind him. Lase’s quick reflexes blocked the fierce slash, and back-flipped to dodge an utterly reckless thrust by Rik that could have shattered a boulder. “Stand still, darnit!” Rik said as he dodged a powerful upward slash from Lase. Suddenly, Lase changed tactics, and pretended to aim for Rik’s legs. Rik blocked and hesitated after realising Lase tricked him, and Lase did a sideways thrust, absolutely destroying Rik’s wrists. He dropped his weapons as he howled in pain, realising he had no more weapons and no more ways to attack Lase. He sagged to the ground, all the fight knocked out of him. Lase pointed his sword to Rik’s head. “No… impossible…” Rik gasped as he gulped, feeling an intense pain as blood was splattered all over his arms. “I… won’t… be captured…” with that said, he pulled his head back and threw it into Lase’s sword. He jumped back in surprise as Rik’s head had gone through the tip of his sword. Dead. Later, after order was somewhat restored to Tenrak, Lase was sitting in his house, with some of his friend troops, Batoy, Mak, and Kal. They were discussing over matters about this remaining unknown army. Lase had given Mariam the day off, as an apology for all the trouble she had gone through earlier that day. The afternoon was approaching, but Lase and the others never knew, because of the darkness. “So, what we know so far, is that this army seems to have unlimited troops and supplies.” Kal spoke, while the others listened intently. “Also, it seems that they will resist capture by committing suicide, to avoid questioning.” “What I don’t understand, though,” Lase told them, “Is how they are getting all these supplies and troops. I don’t think it’s possible to have over 5 armies, each of which have died. How is it possible to have anymore troops, and why didn’t they send all of those armies to make a full-out assault?” “Also, Rik said something about a fortress, and yet our scouts have never seen any fortress for miles around,” Mak spoke up. “Yeah, all they see is an oncoming army, nothing more, nothing less,” Batoy concluded. They all sat there, puzzled. Each of them were in their early twenties, and each were raised in Tenrak. All of them had parents with the exception of Lase, who never knew them. Many said the evil that took the Light elemnt also kidnapped his parents, because they were extremely strong warriors in battle. Suddenly, a thought struck Lase. He was considered the greatest warrior in the whole of Tenrak… perhaps the army was always coming after him? After all, he is the child of the two warriors the evil kidnapped. Lase felt he shouldn’t share this with his comrades, especially if he was wrong. He didn’t want to make sudden assumptions until he almost knew for sure. Lase was that kind of person. * * * * * * * * * * * * “Sir, we… have some bad news.” The soldier told his leader. “What is it?” The leader responded. His voice was cool, calm, and calculating, compared to the shaky and nervous voice of his troop, anxiously kneeling down to the leader. “Well, our scouts came back after Rik told them to leave with Alke. He seemed to want to fight them all by himself.” He continued on. His leader, sitting in his throne, banged his fist on the arm of the throne, causing cracks to cluster around the area he banged. “Damn Rik, always being reckless… I shouldn’t have made him a general.” The leader said, his cold voice full of infuriation and regret. “I can tell that he obviously lost. Did he follow the code?” “Y-yes, he did, he was said to have killed himself when the swordsman known as Lase beat him.” The man stuttered. Several seconds passed by, as if the leader was thinking of something. “Leave!” The leader suddenly screamed. The voice made the soldier jump up in a mixture of surprise and fright, and he leaped up a split second afterwards. “Yes, Master Thead,” and he stumbled out of the dark, stone hallway where the leader sat. “Dammit… Rik is gone. Who could have killed him?” Thead spoke to himself in a furious tone, “I’ll have to send in Sotah…” his voice drifted away, as he continued in his thoughts, thinking very hard of a plan of sorts. * * * * * * * * * * * * In Tenrak, rain had begun to fall, splattering, cold droplets falling to the ground everywhere. Lase hadn’t noticed this now, as he was fighting a very tough battle. His opponent was quite skilled in sword-handling, and he just barely blocked a jab to his left. Lase countered with his own flick at the left arm, creating a small gash in his opponent’s arm. He gasped in pain, and hesitated, and that was all Lase needed. He thrust his sword out, and it stopped, an inch away from the opponent’s neck. “Alright, alright, I give,” The voice said, dropping his sword. Lase, grinning broadly, swung his sword, back into it’s holster on his left leg. “C’mon Kal, one more match!” Lase stated, jokingly. “Uh uh, not after the fact you’ve beaten me five times in a row, and I now need medical attention,” Kal said, sarcastically. Of course, he still didn’t want to face off against Lase again. He was tired, and Tenrak having an utter downpour didn’t help lift his spirits. “Oh, come on, it’s not lik-” Lase was cut off as he heard the neighing of a horse. He turned around to see a rider on a horse behind him. “Lase of Tenrak?” The rider questioned. The voice was full of confidence and determination. Lase could tell he had been in tough situations, just by the voice of him. “That, would be me,” Lase said, puzzled by the sudden appearance of this unknown person. He got off the horse, and Lase got a good look at him. The rider was a warrior, with several swords, gauntlets, and chain mail equipped to him. He had a well-built body, of someone who worked out, looking swift and strong at the same time. “Good. I have something to tell you…” the warrior paused in hesitation, thinking of what to say. “I am here to bring you to retrieve the element of Light, and take down the evil,” he blurted out, apparently being the best way he could have put it. His face was dead serious as he said it, and it was definitely shown it wasn’t a joke of any sort. |
