Chapter 1 Samus watched from her ship as the Biologic Space Labs sank into SR388’s atmosphere. She could see the metal twisting, and melting from the extreme heat and pressure as it entered the atmosphere of the planet. The bottom portion of the Lab splits off spinning away from the main section. The emergencies thrusters fire but they only succeed in sending the smaller portion into a spin, causing it to fall faster. It hit first causing a toxic gas cloud laced with radiation to rise, killing everything that it touched. The cloud alone would kill this world in time but the rest of the lab was speeding down to finish the job faster. When the rest of the Lab hit the ground the following explosion created an enormous mushroom cloud followed by a shock wave that ripped across the surface of the largest continent of the planet killing most, if not all the life. In the aftermath of the crashed lab Samus could see that the tectonic plates of the plant had been shifted causing massive earthquakes, volcanoes, and lava flows across the world. This once green thriving planet, of SR388, was now a world of stone, ash and lava; where no living thing could or would ever live again. **************** “Lady Samus we should leave now and inform the Galactic Federation about the station.” Adam said in a comforting voice. Samus, distracted from her thoughts, turned her head from the window to look at her computer. Adam could then see that her eyes, slightly blood shot, filling up with tears. “I just destroyed all life on that planet.” She answered in a shaky voice “I know, Samus. But if you had not destroyed the lab and left any remaining X. The galaxy would again be in danger.” Adam said trying to comfort the bounty hunter. Samus looked back though the window. A few moments later she answered “Yes, you are right.” She took one last look though the window. She wiped the tears from her eyes and sat in the pilot’s chair. “Adam, set a course to rendezvous with Proqe (Pr-ox)” Samus said. “It is done, Lady.” Adam answered. Samus nods her head before activating the trans warp drive. Moments later Samus’ gun ship enters a trans warp conduit and leaves the now dead world behind. The Galactic Federation small freighter Aura-59 sat at the rendezvous point. It is a small freighter with blast marks over a majority of the haul. The Aura is made up of three 1,000 Kilos containers in a straight line. Also the bridge can detach from the haul when needed. Inside we find Proqe, a man with short brown hair and wearing a jump suit similar to the ones fighter pilots wear today. He sat in the freighter’s pilot seat, his green eyes scanning the weapon and science consoles for enemy ships and unwanted visitors. “Trans warp signature detected.” The computer said. “That better be you, Samus.” Proqe said as he stood up. “I would be in a lot of trouble if the Federation searches this ship.” He knew that the middle compartment opened up on the bottom to revel a special docking port, which would hide Samus’ gun ship, and where Adam would uploaded himself into the Aura’s computer. The third one contained two escape pods/fighters, both of which aren’t legal. Although the government probable would not press charges against the galaxy’s best bounty hunter, he did not want to take the risk of going to court. As Samus’ gun ship left the trans warp conduit, Proqe sighed with relief. “Proqe is that you?” Samus said over the radio. “Yea, hurry up and dock so we can get out of here.” Proqe answered. He pressed the controls to the hidden docking port, opening the middle compartment “Ok, I am docking now.” Samus said as she started to carefully maneuvering underneath the now open compartment. The Aura extends its docking arm locking onto the smaller gun ship. A few minutes later Samus’ gun ship was safe inside the Aura’s docking bay, waiting for the trans warp trip to the GF outpost-31. Proqe poured Samus a cup of coffee. “So you destroyed the Biologic Space Labs?” He asked. Samus had just finished telling about what had happen at the Lab. “Yes, SR388 is destroyed as well.” Samus, with her eyes still a little blood shot from earlier, said in a low voice. Proqe pick up the data pad with the scans Adam took “That might be a bad thing.” he mumbled. “The Federation will not be happy with me.” Samus said while staring at the table. Was I wrong when I destroyed the Lab? She thought. No, if I didn’t destroy it the X could have spread but what about SR388? Should I have destroyed all the life on that planet? “Samus?” Proqe asked in a worried voice. Samus, startled out of her thoughts looked up at Proqe “I am fine.” she lied. “If you say so.” He said shrugging his shoulders he looked back at the data pad. You shouldn’t have lied to him, she thought, but what would I say? That I am murderer? That I have kill millions? What will I tell the Federation when the time comes? Samus refocus her eyes to find Proqe writing something on a data pad. “5 minutes till we arrive at GF outpost-31.” Adam said. Proqe looks up from the data pad “That is good.” He said. “Don’t worry Samus. I think I know how to get us out of the mess.” Samus looks at him hopefully “You do?” she asked. “Yea, I will just call an old buddy of mine.” Proqe answers. Samus nods her head. All I can do is wait to see who Proqe’s friend is, she thought, and hope he really is a friend. |

((no one not a single one. I am sad:( but I will post a chapter anyways.)) Chapter 2 Samus sat in a chair out of range of the view screen while Proqe stood in front of it. A fairly old man with gray hair, sitting at a desk, appeared on the screen. “Well hello Proqe, it has been a long time.” The man said. He had a deep voice with a hint of a southern accent in it. “Yes, it has Lukos. I heard that you got a promotion to admiral.” Proqe answered back with a smile. Samus began to search for the name Lukos in the database. “Yep, happen about a week ago. So, what can I do for you?” Lukos grinned as he spoke. “Lets just say that I found that a certain bounty hunter could be in trouble.” “Trouble you say? What kind of trouble?” “Let’s just say that this hunter was sent to clear a station of enemies but that was not possible. So the hunter destroyed the station by crashing it into a planet.” “Did this planet have any sentient* beings?” “No.” “Well it would depend on the hunter, what the mission protocol was, and if the station was privately owned.” Proqe sighed. “The hunter is well known, mission protocol was to destroy the enemy at all cost, and the station was both GF and privately owned.” Samus looked up from the small screen; she had found Lukos’ name in the database and was saving the information in a data pad. “Well then this bounty shouldn’t have to worry too much but the only station that had any enemies that needed clearing was on was the Biologic Space Labs.” Lukos replied. “Is this bounty’s name, Samus?” Samus looked up from the small screen at and Proqe glanced at her. “And if Samus is this bounty?” Proqe asked. “Then you and this bounty hunter might be in more trouble.” Lukos said. “What!?!, Why?!” Proqe ask in a very worried voice. “She is very unpopular with a good deal of the political leaders.” Lukos answered. “I am?” Samus said in a low voice, but Lukos could not hear her. “What did Samus do to make her so unpopular?” Proqe asked. He knew political leaders did not like bounty hunters, they were hard to control and operated outside the political box, but why was Samus so high on their list? “Since the Space Pirates have been quiet lately so the politicians are saying that the Space Pirates are no longer a threat and that the money we pay the hunters should go to other more ‘peaceful’ programs and hunting smugglers. But Samus, and a few of the other hunters, can disprove that.” Lukos said. “Well the hunters are right the Space Pirates are very dangerous, if we leave them alone who knows what they will come up with next.” Proqe replied. Samus smiled when he said that, she knew he would understand. Bounty hunters picked handlers* that would understand them. “I know that, but the politicians say other wise. It makes them seem like they are the good guys, trying to find peace and protect prosperity, then they turn around and blame the military for spending money to start wars.” Lukos said. “Lying just to get votes.” Proqe said as he shook his head in disappointment. “It is a shame that is the truth.” Lukos nods in agreement. “They also say that the GF troops should take care of the ‘small’ pirates’ threats, instead of paying bounty hunters to do it. And yet they take money out of the military’s training programs. It is kind of hard to train troops if you can barely afford basic training equipment or equip our troopers.” Lukos said in an irritated voice. “The military is having problems buying basic training and battle equipment?” Proqe asked. Lukos nodded “I am afraid so.” Both Samus and Proqe were shocked, they knew that the military was having money problems but they never thought it was this bad. “What! Do they think that the troops can defeat the pirates with pop guns?” Proqe said. Samus had to smile at that, it was a little exaggerated but it seemed to fit. Lukos laughed “So it seems, at times and Proqe, if you find Samus warn her to stay away from the GF. The BSL was a very expensive station and some people are talking about restricting or even outlawing bounty hunting. If they caught Samus they would try to use her as an excuse to do one or the other.” He said. Proqe nodded. “I understand. If I see her, I will tell her. Take care Lukos.” “Take care Proqe” Lukos reply. The screen went blank as the transmission was ended. “I am going to need a new identification, if what your friend said is true.” Samus said. “Yes, you will also need a new ship.” Proqe said. Samus just looked at him with a blank face “A new ship? What will we do with my old ship? We can’t dump it in deep space.” She said. “You are right. We could sell it, dispose of it, or dismantle it. All of these can be done quietly in the Bad Lands.” Proqe said. He then looked at Samus. “Would you be okay with that?” Samus nods before speaking. “Yes, how soon can we be in the Bad Lands?” “Two days.” Proqe said. “Ok, I am going to get some rest.” Samus said as she stood up. “I will call you when it is time to get up.” Proqe replied. “Ok.” Samus said before disappearing down the corridor. “Adam, set a course to Ares DS 10-03.” Proqe said to Adam. “Setting course…. course is now set.” Adam said. Proqe sat down in the pilot’s chair “Engage once we get past the navigation buoy.” He said. “Acknowledged” came Adam’s reply. The Aura sluggishly turned and headed to the entrance of the tans warp conduit. It shuddered as the excess energy needed for the long jump poured into the engines. The Aura entered a trans warp conduit, leaving nothing behind except a faint warp signature. *Sentient: 1. Really? I never thought that was a grammar error. I always thought that you went on to another paragraph when you change subjects. Where did you learn this? |

Well I looked and found no rule saying that you can't have two people talking in the same paragraph. So I am not changing the format. |

Chapter 3 Lukos turned his monitor back on after his conversation with Proqe ended. “Computer, contact the Head Admiral.” He said. “Complying, starting transmission.” The computer said in a neutral feminine voice. The Head Admiral Pierre, a grayish skinned man with white hair and lines etched into his face appeared on the screen; his crisp, clean and pressed uniform held his many gleaming medals. “Ah, Lukos, what can I help you with?” The Admiral said. “The Lab and Metroids have been destroyed.” “What? How do you know this?” Admiral Pierre said, glaring at Lukos with his gray blue eyes. “A friend of mine sent me scans of SR388 after The Biologic Space Labs crashed into it.” “What caused the station to crash and is anything salvable?” “I am not sure what caused it but I think it had to do with the X and who we sent to eliminated it. And nothing could be salvaged, the explosion destroyed everything.” The Head Admiral eyes seem to soften as he nodded. “I see. What about the transport and how many people know about this?” he asked. “The first transport has all ready reached the new lab, the next shipment should get there in a couple of days and I do believe that Samus is the only one that knows what was on the lab, but that could change.” Lukos replied. “Very well, contact me if anything changes.” The Head Admiral said before ending the transmission. “Yes, Sir” Lukos said to the blank monitor. --------------- The Aura, still speeding though the trans warp conduit, is nearing the station Ares DS 10-03 as Samus and Proqe are striping anything of value from Samus’ old ship. Proqe, covered in engine fluid and grease, connects a cable from the Aura’s main computer to a computer terminal on the hull of Samus’ ship. “Adam download the star charts first then the location of any GF bases you can find and make sure you have yourself uploaded to the Aura’s computer.” Proqe said jumping though the open hatch into the main area and bridge. After standing up he walks over to check one of the control panels on Samus’ ship, he had always wondered why she never gave a name to her ships. “Very well, I will be done in a half-hour.” Adam replied. Samus walks in carrying the last of her stuff from the living area. “Why do we want to know where the GF bases are?” she asked. “So we can avoid them as much as possible. Remember we are hunted not the hunter.” Proqe answered. Samus nods her head before replying “Yes, I remember. It feels so different being the hunted, after being a hunter for so long.” Samus says the last part with a hint of sadness. Proqe smiled at Samus. “Don’t worry. I am sure that you will be able to return to being a bounty hunter.” He said, trying to cheer her up. “You are probably right.” Samus said putting a small but fake grin on her face as she walked onto the elevator. “I will be in my quarters unpacking.” she continued. “Ok, I will meet you in the galley later.” Proqe said as the elevator platform started to rise. Samus nodded her response before passing though the outer hull of the ship. Proqe returns to the control panel, starting to wipe parts of the computer’s memory of any evidence of Samus or the GF. After twenty minutes Proqe finishes wiping the computer and moves on to absent mindedly reading scan data, waiting for Adam to finish downloading himself to the Aura’s computer. Moments later the lights on the radio receiver flashed, indicating an intercepted transmission. “Anything interesting” Proqe asked nodding his head to the light. “Yes, that transmission we picked up is a coded GF military transmission from planet DS484.” Adam responded, turning on two holo projectors, one showing the planet that the transmission originated from and the other one showing the audio signal processor. “Do we have any scan data on this planet and how soon can you decode that transmission?” Proqe asked. “I should have it decoded in a few minutes.” Adam replied causing a few more screens to pop up showing random strings of numbers. “And the scan data?” Proqe questioned. “Starting now.” “DS484 is an uninhabited ice world with no known native sentient species or any other native life larger then a microbe all other life average size is meter.” Proqe interrupts “No native life?” “Yes, a pirate frigate crashed there releasing several species of parasites, the smaller ones feed on the microbes and the larger feed on the smaller parasites.” Proqe nods and Adam continues, changing some of the holo screens to show pictures of the landscape and scan data of the parasites “The average temperature is -10 degrees. A science team was deployed there three years ago to study its geography and life forms; the team was removed one year later.” “Who sent the team?” “I have no information on that.” “Is it classified?” “I believe so but I can’t be sure, there is no information available.” “Sounds like a cover up to me.” Proqe said shaking his head, and examining a holo screens. “Got it, starting playback now.” Adam said moments later, closing all screens except the audio signal processor. Proqe sits back and listens to the transmission. A static male voice comes over the com. “Command this is supply transport one. Come in, over.” Command answers back in a computerized female voice. “This is Command; please send your verification code, over” “Roger, sending code now.” Transport one responds. “Code received and verified. State the condition of cargo.” “Condition green, cargo has been successfully and safely unloaded. No casualties to report.” “Send video and code confirmation of condition green.” “Sending video and code confirmation now.” Adam puts up a new screen showing a snowy field. The camera pans to the left to show a low building and GF soldiers moving small stasis containers and other scientific equipment. “Code and visual confirmation received. Continue with unloading cargo and scientific studies over and out.” Command said closing the transmission. *** Samus walks though the cool metal gray hallway of the Aura. When she enters her new quarters she takes a good look around. The room is quite small, simple light fixtures adorn the wall, to her right is a desk with some shelves, and the bed, in front for her is a tube that holds her suit and a dresser to the left of it, and on her left is the door to the wash room, closet, and a rack of standard GF weapons. Samus placed the box on the desk and starts unpacking it. Minutes later Samus had put everything away but the room is as plain as it was before. A few data pads on the desk, a d'k tahg hanging on the weapons rack, and a black orb, with fait wisps of white swirling around a little speck inside it’s dark shell, sitting on a silver case is the only noticeable change. It is still as gray and as dull as before. Samus thought, picking up the orb. Funny isn’t it? I have spent my whole life roaming the galaxy, doing things that no one could and seeing things that people could never imagine. The white wisps in the orb start to glow a faint yellow. But now everything is gone, nothing more then a memory. Now wisps of red appeared in the orb. Now here I am, the once feared hunter being hunted, running from those I once worked for and feeling sorry for myself. Samus looked down at the orb, the colors started to swirl together, like water flowing in a river. A smile came to her lips as a fait memory tugs at the back of her mind. Samus is standing on a launch pad, after receiving her suit and ship, talking with a Chozo elder. “There is one more thing Samus.” The Chozo said, handing a black orb to her. Samus looks the orb over, feeling it’s cool, smooth surface on her warm skin. “What is it?” Samus asked looking up into the elders gentle face, he smiled then spoke in a soft voice. “That is a lychnos, it means light giver in our langue. Keep it well.” “Thank you,” Samus answered smiling at her once caregiver and the one who gave her wings. Her smile grew as she remembered that conversation. Rubbing the lychnos, a blue hue appeared and began swirling with the other colors in a strange dance. The lights intensified and started to reflect across the walls, flowing like water in beautiful patterns. Samus’ eyes scan the walls of her room then come to rest on the small case, awakening anther old memory. Samus is walking toward her ship ready to leave the Chozo world behind and start a new life roaming the galaxy. “Samus, Samus!” a small chozo girl cried running up to her. Samus stops walking to greet the little girl. “Karla!” She kneels and Karla wraps her long arms around Samus for a hug. “You forgot somethin” Karla said with concern in her voice and eyes. “Oh, I did?” Samus asked sweetly. “Yes, here.” Karla said holding up a dog like stuffed animal its red eyes shone in the sun. Samus looked at the stuff animal then into Karla’s eyes, and saw a hint of sadness, Karla wanted to help Samus and this was her way if doing it. Samus similes, cupping her hands over Karla’s stuff animal before speaking. “Thank you Karla but I think koniao should stay with you.” “But koniao is staying with me.” Karla said pulling koniao out of her pocket. “This is Eruthros. I want to give him to you, that way you won’t get lonely.” Karla said holding Eruthros out to Samus. “Thank you, Karla. I will cherish him forever.” Samus stood up and for one last time ruffles Karla’s head feathers. She walks over to the desk, placing the lychnos on a shelf and lifting the small box off the desk. It looked like it was a simple box with rounded edges and two small ridges on the top. She opened it to reveal Eruthros, lying perfectly preserved inside. Samus picks him up, placing the opened box on the shelf. Looking into the animal’s red eyes brought a sense of calm to Samus; she places the animal on the box using it as a stand. |
